love this version!! it annoys me how folk are going on about how cuomo is "a sell out" and "he thinks highly of himself"...eh what?!? they obviously have never paid attention to any of the lyrics he's written in the past...the man is a legend! yeah i agree that raditude isnt the best album but it shouldnt take any attention away from the talent he has and all of the amazing stuff he's produced in the past and all the amazing stuff we know he will produce in the future! love it and i love him!
Dude... the whole point of the Raditude version is the contrast between the lyrics and the "party" scene music. It's actually a very mature and well thought out metaphor/representation of the addiction and suffering of this "partying" lifestyle. Would you all quit this bullshit about how insincere the album version is? Jesus.
so much more serious emotion than the raditude version. only rivers could put beautiful pain into a song like this...but he can also take it away, which he did. "weezer and weezy..." nah man. this is the true touching beauty, not that.
rivers cuomo has such a high view of himself. in reality, he is a sell out. however, when he writes what he wants, i LOVE it. this song, its just soo good.
@misterforeverband i just wanted to reply, but there was only a neutral way to reply, because all u did was continue my pointless finding... ull have to forgive me, ive learned to take everyone with a keyboard as passive aggressive, i say go rivers because one of his goals is to make and inspire pop music.. its a straight conversion to piano, im a huge fan of rivers and maybe romanticized for a second his influence, please forgive
@EnergizerBunny804 "Weezer is incapable of making a bad album". How are they incapable? What makes them different from any other band? Sure they released two of the best albums of all time but after that college stint he had, almost everything they've released has been junk. And I never said bands are never allowed to change. Weezer decided to change so their songs appealed to the mindless teens who buy anything Disney/ MTV/ the Radio tells them to. (AKA Garbage)
@MotorCityMachineGunn you know what I mean, I don't think Weezer has ever made a bad album is what i meant, and Weezer has always been an accessible band, they don't need to pander to mindless teens, rivers likes the album, so it's not like he's changing against his will, so what's the problem
It's not sarcasm. It's pain to an addiction that River is sad and embarrassed of. The lime light, he is admitting that he is not above it all. Thus the droning tones of the organs and the minor chords. Get a little older and you will understand. One should be over the scene, but it's hard to get out of. That's why you see 30 year olds at the bars getting f*cked up.
when i heard the Raditiude version i was like "What is this??? " but i really like this version! glad i found it! Lil wayne's over tuned annoying voice on the same track as rivers' amazing and pure voice is just wrong
i think both versions are totally awesome, alone2 AND raditude. obviously, this is a demo version. as such, it can very much stand on its own. the sparse arrangement and instrumentation gives it that so-called "alienating-emotive" feel. the raditude version however takes things in a whole new direction. it takes things "to the hilt" so to speak. you may have your own opinions, but the raditude version totally succeeded in making the song more alienating than it already is. both versions OWN.
Could not disagree more. The remake of this song strips it of everything that makes it great. This song is so earnest and legitimate. Putting all of that production on it just killed it completely. That organ (or whatever it is) complementing the acoustic guitar is just perfect. They took this deep sentimental song and turned it into a run-of-the-mill pop song. This version owns the new one, plain and simple.
@kiwieata True. However, this song was written by Jermaine Dupri. It was his decision, to give it all those "well rounded" feel for the album. Some folks will prefer this version, others will prefer the original, while still others will dislike the new direction Weezer is taking. The usual equation with most progressive is, lose fans, gain new ones. That's the way it goes. If you all can't understand that, well, pity.
This version is so much better than the one on Raditude... Why would Rivers take a sincere song and turn it into something that's just irritating? You can actually hear the emotion in this one.
@adicleray "The beat" actually was from Rivers forgetting the lyrics and just assuming the actual lyrics. With that, he came up with " I gotta have the boom/ the beat" that is heard on the rock versions of CSP. He then changed "the boom" to "Patrone" for the Lil' Wayne version.
@Capriccio01 Rivers did it for the label. Now that they are on an independent one the true genius of Rivers and company will come out to play once again.
@Capriccio01 their alternative power pop rock, not a acoustic open mic night rock band; this how most of their songs first start out and then they had stuff around it
Whoa, I didn't know this song was on this album as well. That's interesting that he put this song on here, because as I understand, Jermaine Dupri wrote it. I thought he only put songs that he himself wrote on these Alone albums.
what people need to realize is rivers is being genuine on all these songs these stupid hipster fucks only know sarcasm so naturally they think everything is a joke or they hate it.
Just the tone in this version is sarcastic. Its like Rivers comes back to an old joke of his, forgets he was joking and gets all serious about it, its really weird.
Much better than that horrid Raditude version. Rivers seems like he is singing it in a way where this is the life that he wants, but can't seem to achieve. Anyway, it feels way more sincere.
album version doesn't suck cause lil wayne's on it... it sucks because it is a terrible, terrible song. chamillionare's rap on the session's version was pretty tight, but it was the only tight thing about it.
This version is pretty good, but the one on the album is downright awful. I was actually upset at how bad it is, so I went and listened to Pinkerton and felt better.
I just saw them live yesterday and his version on stage without Lil Wayne dick is better....I still like what Rivers is trying to do by broadening his genre
I like the sarcasting lapse in the mood and topic in this one. This is a fusion between a hymn and a folk song, and its talking about partying, whereas the Live version is a typical rock anthem.
Upon further review, I concede that the live version is equal to this version. They each have things I like about them. I can't wait to hear the album version.
Why? Everyones getting mad because he wants to broaden his music to something other than rock. That doesnt make any sense. Just cause weezers music is usually rock doesnt mean they have to be tied down to a specific genre.
I want to agree with you, but that doesn't change the fact that the album version is just a bad song. He can go to a different genre all he wants, just so long as it's a good song for the genre. Someone as talented as Rivers should write a better song than this. Oh well, it's gonna make a lot of money.
I think the lyrics are also sorrowful in their own way. I see this as kind of the opposite of The Good Life. Partying a ton and hating yourself for it but not being able to stuff. Just my interpretation, though. The great thing about lyrics is that not everyone has the same idea.
He wrote this song with Jermaine Dupri. True story.
