  • @GeoffJennyOliver nice video and cool music mate. Say, any chance you could do another one of these freeway timelapse videos travelling on the Western Ring Road and/or also the Calder Freeway through to the Melton Highway in the western suburbs? It would be great to watch, particularly with the sort of music you used in this video sounded great.

    Thanks mate.

  • @Tubetheweb .. yep Ok - hopefully over the next few weeks that and a couple of others will get done - thanks, Geoff

  • @GeoffJennyOliver sounds great. look forward to viewing it on Youtube. Cheers.

  • I really enjoy these driving videos. I can never get myself to make one. My excuse used to be that I don't have a car, but that doesn't work no more. hehe. Hopefully one of these I'll show you around Toronto. :-)

  • That was cool.. Looks like you have far less big trucks on your roads than we do on ours

  • @Weathernutzz This particular road feeds between suburban areas - the Monash freeway is the one with all the trucks -

  • good Video Geoff, keep them coming we would like to see more Aussie

  • Nice video, Geoff. The music fits quite well. Nice driving.

  • @Bryant5493 Thanks Bryant

  • @GeoffJennyOliver

    You're welcome.

  • at which speed really are you going? with timelapse it's difficult to calculate. ciao Geoff by Gian ;-)

  • @Gian2812 Hi Gian - ciao. I sped it up 3 times. Tried to have it synchronize with the music.

  • @GeoffJennyOliver I would say the result is interesting, is not it Geoff? A salute by Gian ;-) Thanks

  • Nice trip in timelapse with relaxing music. Good job GoJo. Gian ;-)

  • Nice ride, Geoff! BTW, how much are the tolls and do they do "toll-by-plate" and/or a transponder on this freeway?

  • @georgiaroadgeek Hi Steve - the road operator (privately owned / operated) supplies a transponder when you open an account. Each gate is about $0.50. (at the moment Aus dollar is in parity with US dollar). The tunnel costs about $3 each way. There are also cameras to pick up plates for those who try to do a 'runner'. With separate speed cameras.. Travel times have been drastically reduced, so the expense is worth it - as far as I'm concerned

  • excellent drive movie Geoff! :)

  • Great video!

  • That is some impressive infrastructure right there. Thanks for the ride Geoff.

  • very nice!!!

  • Speed demon :)

  • hey I didn't know 'California Sunshine' sounds like this ;) Good music

  • You've nicely captured that Zen state we all get into as we glide along the freeway, in the Nowhereville between Home and Destination. And if I come back as a ghost you'll probably glimpse me in my Holden, driving spectrally forever round the highways of Australia like the Flying Dutchman.

  • @videowilliams ...yeaah maan (said with space out look) ... :)

  • Thanks for share!!!wonderful video and the landscape...love it!!!

The music is great and my taste!!!@;-D Mony

  • Great video. But when will drivers in Australia learn not to pass people on the left!

  • @dcau1 ..ahh - yeah - that might not ever happen, now a legislated traffic offense to stay in far right hand lane when left lanes are clear - that should help...

  • This actually got me thinking. How serious is the Victorian government on constructing the East-West road connection? It's the freeway that's planned to start at West Gate Freeway, and then continue east to merge seamlessly with where the Eastern Freeway currently begins/ends at Wellington Street. I guess they're going to tunnel large sections of it, since it'd be impractical to tear down so many buildings to acquire the huge ROW required for such a project.

  • @FreewayBrent That has been one huge debate over here. The way the eastern finishes has to be one of the more stupid things done in road design. 4 lanes just stop at traffic lights - its ridiculous. The reason it is so is political. Those suburbs are very politically savvy - and don't want a freeway running through them. Eventually we will have a tunnel - the committees have come and gone, the planning is all done, it's just up to politicians to make the decision.

  • @GeoffJennyOliver Make that 6 lanes - stopping at lights

  • @GeoffJennyOliver: Oh yeah, I totally agree with you on the borderline idiotic planning. Any freeway that carries a max of 150,000 vehicles per day, only to suddenly dump onto a city street is truly poor planning. But I can see why the local residents in the path of any freeway extension would want to fiercely protest. In the end, I can only see a tunnel as being a realistic option. I'm assuming it would be a toll road, since tunnels are very expensive to construct.

  • Nice ride, some interesting architecture on that freeway. This road looks new, was it recently built (last 10 years) or an upgrade from am older road?

  • @Freewayjim The part b4 the tunnel is new (2 yo). After the tunnel has received a recent major overhaul.

  • WOW! I was just shopping at the local drug/pharmacy store about 30 minutes ago, and thought about asking if you were going to do a film on the East Link. Then I get home, and BAM, it's online for my viewing pleasure!

That's a really nice ride. A lot of thought given to the aesthetics. The song kinda matches with the mostly overcast skies, too.

By the way, where exactly is that tunnel located? I'll also take it that you filmed this in the northbound & then westbound direction?

  • @FreewayBrent Hi Brent. East Link has only been operating for about 2 years (the section b4 the tunnel). From the tunnel onwards there has been a major upgrade. The name is a bit confusing, East Link is a north / south freeway but located in the eastern suburbs. The eastern freeway is east / west.

  • @GeoffJennyOliver: You mixed FreewayJim and my comment together, lol.

  • @FreewayBrent sorry 'bout that :)

  • @FreewayBrent ...twas early in the morning...

  • @FreewayBrent ...and yes northbound and then west...

  • 0:12 Volvo 1990 Volvo 240 :D

  • Nice video. Is it me or is 100 km/h a little slow for a suburban freeway like that? (Esp. at the beginning) In Texas, it's 70mph, then factor in the fact that most people will go 5 over or so.

  • @FreewayTitan Many people out here complain about our slow max. The road could easily handle a higher max. Even on the major interstate it only goes to 110. The speed cameras will get you here if your 5 over. Some say we live in a 'nanny' state / country.

  • @GeoffJennyOliver I would say. It just seems too slow.

  • @FreewayTitan 100kmh is a pretty standard city freeway speed. In Canada you can get away with going 10-15 over, even 20 on intercity highways if the conditions are alright.

  • @CptSchmidt The fixed cameras are set at a very low tolerance. With the cops and a mobile radar you will get away with +10kph

  • @GeoffJennyOliver Wow, you guys are lucky to be allowed to have them. Here radars are illegal and if you're caught with one you can get a huge fine, lose your licence or even jailtime.

  • @CptSchmidt We also have people who are contracted by the Gov to be mobile speed camera operators - when they are detected by passing drivers that driver will flash his lights at on coming traffic

  • @GeoffJennyOliver Same here; Drivers flash their lights at oncoming cars to warn of speed traps :D People helping people!

  • @CptSchmidt I know it's 100 km/h in Canada too. That just seems very slow, I guess it's just higher in the States.
