  • 1. Tablet. Drawing with a mouse is counter productive. If you want to get into digital art you should invest in a tablet.

    2. This comic was done in Photoshop. I use Manga Studio and PS. Sketchbook Pro is also a very nice program. Go nuts! :)

  • I have a few questions myself to ask:

1 - Do you use tablet or you use mouse to draw it ?

2 - In which program you draw? I tried Sketchbook Pro, and I liked it.

  • can i find all of these on youtube?

  • Do you listen to this music as you draw it?

  • @Ithellama Sometimes yes :) It's a whole album of old cartoony instrumentals.

  • @lardesouza Can you name the ones in this clip? I reccorgnice (?) 'em from somewhere, but can put my finger on it.

  • does thath music got any name ? xD ?

  • Like your musical choices.

  • It's very interesting to see how these are made. Makes you realize how much work goes into it. O.O

  • Damn. Lar DeSouza, you have amazing talent, and such a steady hand!

You must have been some kind of medic for the Mob in a past life.

  • 'A mountain that eats people... I want one.' >=DDDDDD lol one of my favourite quotes XD

One question: how long does it take to come up with all those epic quotes for Richard? 'Cause they're genius XD

  • has lfg the movie been made? or a licd movie? can i boy them? watch them?

  • This... Is... GODLY!!!

  • were can i buy this comic? its really awsome :)

  • will you be making any animations? such as sort shows of the comic? (no including the musical)

  • What is the name of that program you used to draw this?

  • I love this comic! fantastic work!

  • I'm curious as to how sped up this video is. And I feel like I've already asked that.

  • what program is that? I need that it would help my sis when making comics for deviant art

  • What version of Photoshop is this?

  • I think it might be 7

  • wow amazing job man, im just starting animation college and if i can become half the artist u r ill count myself lucky!

  • what. can you draw on paper on paper then scan it and put it on?

  • respect to the one who draws the comics :)

    FOR PONY!

  • "What? You can't have that as your battle cry!"

    "Why? You have one."

"Mine's for honor, nobility, and a nation until recently long forgotten."

    "And mine's for ponies."

    "You ca-"

    "FOR PONY!"

  • For PONY!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Cool, what program do you use???

  • The program she/he uses called Photoshop

  • so roughly how much time goes into one page of your comic?

and is the script pre set or done as it goes on?

  • Its Pre set and I think to draw a comic page takes roughly an Hour

  • I talked to the LFG guys at their booth at NYCC 09 and they said that the movie isn't due until fall of 2010 :(

  • Well, it's a good thing that they are still working on it anyway right? :P

  • Man whenever i use my tablet its so annoying how shaky my hand is, so it makes my lines all squiggly

  • i cant believe how ppl can draw straight lines on a computer screen

  • They're using a tablet most likely

  • Comment removed

  • Lord you make it look so easy :)

  • what did you use at 6:34?

  • this comic series is probably the funniest one ive ever.

    Richard is a god.

  • Definitely. Have you seen anything about the movie? I can't find anything anywhere.

  • i heard its comin out in fall 2009

  • cool, from where?

  • very cool, I'm starting to make my own comics, but I need some help. Think you can give me pointers and tips?

  • what program do you use to draw this? and what file format do you save it in.

  • Great drawing skills, surely LFG would not be as good is it is without the marvelous visuals. One question though, what song(s) is this.

  • Question to the amazing artiast: Did you go to art/drawing school?

Im not a drawer/artist my self. I have problems makking a stickman but im just want to know.

  • Yes, I attended Sheridan College School of Visual Arts waaaay back in the 80's for Illustration.

  • i must atmit, this guy has a talent. love it! ;)

  • no paper? all on the pc?

God, this man is great O_o

  • the artist truly has a gift

  • Lol, music x)

  • Wow... I never knew it took so much just to make the comic...

Can anyone tell me the second song used?

  • Damn. He's amazingly talented with his tablet.

  • this is a really awesome artist, with a whole bucketload and a half of ability. Tablets + skill + photoshop = pure awesome.

    I love LFG :)

  • he's an expert to put in in a few words

  • so does this guy use one of those screens that you actually can draw on with the stylus, or does he have one of those pads on the side that he draws on while looking at the screen??

  • @LamenessFTW: He said "Not a mouse. I use a Wacom tablet to sketch/ink/paint directly into the software."

  • What's the program? Doesn't look like Photoshop...

  • @ar4yyyy: He said "All Photoshop - from sketch to inks to colour."

  • what song is this?

lol amazing though. you have too much skill. it's not fair.

  • hey, what kind of tablet are you using? What modell, size and stuff im thinking of buying a tablet and would like to know...

  • lol, "a mountain that eats people.... i want one" i loved that part of the comic

  • wow. that must have taken hours to draw. even sped up it took 7 minutes. love the music you added! XD

And LFG rules, even though I dont play WoW. O_o

  • lol its not WoW. it is just similar to it ^^

  • no it realy is based on wow, hence the wow head AD they made

  • Look, it's based on a culmination of different things. There is no one thing that it is soley based off of. I'm getting tired of the famous "Oh, it's based off this." "NO, It's not!"

The debate seriously needs to stop.

  • Im sorry for the offence, the before menchand "ad" was what had me confused. if you really want to quell the ignorant like me, then perhaps you could inform the masses of the real inspirations of LFG right on your website. once again i apologies for speaking out of my ass.

  • It is alright.

I'm not really all that offended, I've just been seeing that same argument everywhere with LFG. It had been annoying me for quite some time.

  • What program did you use to draw all the licd and lfg comics? btw, I enjoy lfg and licd, lol Rayne: I'm a whore

  • What program do you use to record all this?

  • Camtasia - it's a screen recording program. I don't recall what I used to edit it and add the music though.

  • i cant draw a tree...but you!

    AMAZING!!!!!!!!

  • FOR PONY!

  • Iardesouza, please could you tell me the name of the track at 1:15?

  • What the best size to base your base template page.

  • Print size (even if you never think you'll print it) at 300 dpi. Size it down to the web but always save yourself a high resolution version.

  • Umm, maybe I missed something, but I'd like to know which program do you use to make the bubbles for the texts.

  • That's still done in Photoshop with the shape tool.

  • Okay, thank you!:)

  • gotta love richard

  • What program does LFG use to make their comics anyone ??

  • MS paint would be fun.

  • I believe Photoshop

  • Gawd, you make it look so easy. x__o;

  • Haha your awesome love your comic :D

I want a mountain that eats people too =/

  • O.O

wow. that is wicked. are you actually drawing that fast, or did you fast-forward it?

love the Looney Tunes music, btw. XD

  • This is an impressively well-made comic book, i'm actually very jealous of you for bein' able to afford that kind of software/hardware. Anyhow, keep up the good work for certain, and... feel free to reply to this question: Where did you go to art school, and can you give me any tips in starting my own online web-comic.

    70 Tauren Shaman - Ravenholdt

  • Aaaah! o_o ...that's just... ...so wicked. I wish I had a mind/devotion like that. P.S. Thanks for the hilarious choice of music.

  • Bravo! I can't wait for the movie!

  • ... he did it in paint. wow

  • HAHAHAHAHA! No, I did it in Photoshop, but Paint was funny.

  • Exuse me, but I have a question!

    What size that tablet is?

  • Lar have an Intuous 3, 6x8. Before this, he had a Graphire4, which is also excellent.

  • Richard FTW xD

    dude im so jealous D:

  • Peter Tambourine is the name of the song in this video i believe

  • Actually the song is "Powerhouse". A 1937 instrumental musical composition by Raymond Scott.

  • Lar is making those with Wacom Tablet

so he only draw with hand to Wacom Tablet

    and pictures comes into computer.

    Later,

  • Yeah, it takes a steady hand to use the tablet this well.

  • ...good... but what this music?

  • My girlfriend ordered the autographed hardcover for my birthday. I love her.

  • i cant believe any1 can draw that on a computer! I cant even draw a ordinary looking stick figure.

  • wow didnt know they painted

lfg with computer. GOD! id sacrife my left arm to draw that good.

  • What's the music used in this video?

    btw...love LFG. :)

  • Thanks for posting these! I've been a fan of LICD since shortly after you took over drawing it, and of LFG since it began - both of which I'd classify as among the best-drawn strips in either the online or print world.

My only complaint is that you make it look phenomenally easy. (I know... LOTS of practice.)

Anyway, thanks again for posting these; watching an artist's process is always instructive, entertaining and inspirational.

  • I have Photoshop CS3. This movie is a pretty big help to see the process behind drawing and setting up the comic. I've been attempting to make an online comic series myself, but I can't do much until I replace my broken tablet.

  • Umm, exactly HOW did you break your tablet O.o ?

  • I think I applied too much weight to it or something.

  • Whats better for use, Corel paint shop pro X or Photoshop 7.0

  • Is this World of Warcraft? I LOVE dat game!! ^_^

  • No. No it really is not.

  • Kinda not, but it's a parody ^^

  • No, it's Photoshop 7.0. Later!

  • 3 questions : 1. How did you hide the interface? 2. Did you use free transform to crop the images? 3. Do you have any tutorials on just drawing your type of characters?

    Thanks!

  • 1: Camtasia, the screen capture software used here, let's you define an area or window of the screen to grab.

2: Not sure what you mean. I did use free transform in the initial sketch and composition phase of this strip

3: No. Sorry. Maybe in the future but I admit I hadn't thought of something like that though.

    Later :)

  • 1. Too bad , we could've seen the whole process if you haven't hidden it with Camtasia :)

    2. Yes, I thought of that composition phase, thanks !

    3. That is a gift you are hiding from the world mate, be sure to do it!

    4. One question: Do you come up with the script AND draw, or just draw?

P.S. Why did you name it LFG?Was it because you wanted it to represent some MMORPG like WoW or GW? Thanks!

  • No, Ryan Sohmer is the writer. He writes, I draw. It's a collaborative process :)

    And yes to the PS!

  • What's the name of the PC Program he's using?

  • this is soo cool, is he drawing with the mouse? if so, that's amazing. i imagine its hard with a pencil but even more genius on the pc

  • Not a mouse. I use a Wacom tablet to sketch/ink/paint directly into the software.

    Later :)

  • wow thats really cool, for me its just seeing how its made cause i dont have any drawing talent at all:P but good work;)

  • can ANYONE tell me the name of these songs? it's bugging the hell out of me! I must have them! I must damn you!

  • Richard is the best? That's an under-statement one I'm sure he'd burn you to death for making. This must take up so much time to make though. I must say though, I LOVE IT!

  • I love LFG, richard is the best. xD

  • Genius simply genius.

    Cant get enough of LFG.

  • Is this adobe illustrator?

    Or photoshop?

    Pretty cool either way.

  • hmm whats the name of that second song

  • Wow. I had no idea that so much went into making the comic. How long does it take you to do each part?

  • Really wish I could draw like that.

Really wish I had an imagination like that too.

  • What Program is this?

  • Most likely Photoshop

  • It's done on a graphics tablet. Google Wacom and check out their website, they're a lead company in GT's. Essentially it's a digital piece of paper.

  • no he was asking the program, not the tool, i.e is it painter, or adobe, or opencanvas so on. i would also like to know what program hes using.

  • its really awsome how you get the proportions right the first time almost everytime. Must have taken lots of practice.

  • Awesome.

Btw Norex7777777; interesting similarity of names :P

  • Many kudos to you Lar!

PS: The looks on Gid's and Krunch's faces are priceless.

  • Oh! So Lar is using a tablet. That makes more sense. I thought he was using the mouse to draw all of that.

  • I love the comic, just can´t stop reading it. ^^

  • What program is it??

  • that's excellent!

  • richard looks like a frog at the third pic but its cool^^

  • Good :)

  • you know you can buy something that is for artist to draw straight to the computer i had one but my little brother lost the entronic pencil thingy.

  • Its called a tablet and the thing your talking about is (and i dont know if its called this but i have one for my ds) a stylus

  • no, stylus is just a stick. can't remember what the thing for a tablet is, but it's not stylus cus it's got stuff in it.

  • He's drawing this directy on the comp. I dont konw how ppl do that. If i dont sketch it with a pencil first... I just dont have that kind of skill with a mouse

  • This day is fantastic.

    And so is this movie.

  • i love you...

and where can i acquire one of those mountains?

  • i love drawing

  • The music is from the album Reckless Nights and Turkish Twilights by Raymond Scott. While the music has been used in countless cartoons, he never wrote them for cartoons originally. It's a great album if you're a fan of classic toon music and worth every penny.

  • I hope to be this good one day........

  • what is this from? Warner Bros is what it sounds like to me.

  • Best music ever in video like this!

  • So thats how u make a comic

  • Quick question (dont expect a reply, but worth a shot)

How many times was this sped up? Like 3x? 4x?

  • Beyond impressive, your skill is...well hell, best ive seen in these sped up kind of vids yet. Bravo

  • Great job, Lars.

  • It doesn't cease to amaze me how the hell you do this wonderful comic. I'm a follow from the early days - page 7 lol.

  • wow, ur freakin incredible, i can draw with a pencil, but i have a hard time using a mouse

how long have you been doing this?

  • I would think he uses a stylus. Don't know for sure though.

  • i hadnt thought of that, its possible

its really good either way though

  • Wait... the way the lines are adjusting, it REALLY looks like Illustrator....

  • It's Photoshop.

  • What program is this?

  • Anybody know what the name of the song is? I've heard it a miliion times before, but I don't know the actual name.

  • Don't know the name. But i do know WB used to use it a lot in their cartoons.

  • The name of the song is "Powerhouse". Drove me nuts for years until I tracked down the answer at a cartoon forum. :)

  • omg omg omg it looks so easy >_< but its not! damn you're good

  • very nice.

i was wondering, does anybody know what program he/she uses?

  • Looks like photoshop, but I could be wrong.

  • ZOMG O.o nice work!!

  • wow. That's pretty awsome. I saw all three vids. I want to learn how to do this one day when I'm able to. You've become another one of my idols.

  • Dang, knew it was a lot of work but that's more then I thought. I would never in my life have the skill or patience to do all that. You're freakin amazing

  • Believe me, he makes it LOOk easy! I have a drawing tablet and drawing with it isn't realy easy. It takes a lot of practise (and I just suck at drawing >,<.)

    I LOVE lfg :) . Great work! Keep it comming :) .

  • ARGH!!! He makes it look so EASY!!! This is why I want a tablet. And more talent.

  • Just asking... but do you have a spare brain and some talent dust I could use? Holy crap, is your art spiffy!

Thank you for your efforts, Lar!

  • What song is this? I cannot remember the name for the life of me.

    BTW your comic rules :D

  • Amazing work as always!

When you box the frames, where do you get the green grid and how do you add the lines? I've been using paths for boxing, but this seems more constructive.

  • Windows>Show Grid (with Snap to Grid turned on) and then I use the shape tool to draw the rectangles. After that I merge the rectangles, select the layer and Edit > Stroke to get my panel outlines. Later!

  • What program are you using?

  • All Photoshop - from sketch to inks to colour.

  • Ahh, cool! Awesome Job, <3 LFG!

  • I once asked if you learned to draw alone, Lar. What do you like, pencils and pens or the tablet. I honestly love to use photoshop and pen (i still don't have a tablet), but nothing like the taste of put colors by yourself like a painter.
