so does this guy use one of those screens that you actually can draw on with the stylus, or does he have one of those pads on the side that he draws on while looking at the screen??
Look, it's based on a culmination of different things. There is no one thing that it is soley based off of. I'm getting tired of the famous "Oh, it's based off this." "NO, It's not!"
Im sorry for the offence, the before menchand "ad" was what had me confused. if you really want to quell the ignorant like me, then perhaps you could inform the masses of the real inspirations of LFG right on your website. once again i apologies for speaking out of my ass.
This is an impressively well-made comic book, i'm actually very jealous of you for bein' able to afford that kind of software/hardware. Anyhow, keep up the good work for certain, and... feel free to reply to this question: Where did you go to art school, and can you give me any tips in starting my own online web-comic.
Thanks for posting these! I've been a fan of LICD since shortly after you took over drawing it, and of LFG since it began - both of which I'd classify as among the best-drawn strips in either the online or print world.
My only complaint is that you make it look phenomenally easy. (I know... LOTS of practice.)
Anyway, thanks again for posting these; watching an artist's process is always instructive, entertaining and inspirational.
I have Photoshop CS3. This movie is a pretty big help to see the process behind drawing and setting up the comic. I've been attempting to make an online comic series myself, but I can't do much until I replace my broken tablet.
3 questions : 1. How did you hide the interface? 2. Did you use free transform to crop the images? 3. Do you have any tutorials on just drawing your type of characters?
Richard is the best? That's an under-statement one I'm sure he'd burn you to death for making. This must take up so much time to make though. I must say though, I LOVE IT!
He's drawing this directy on the comp. I dont konw how ppl do that. If i dont sketch it with a pencil first... I just dont have that kind of skill with a mouse
The music is from the album Reckless Nights and Turkish Twilights by Raymond Scott. While the music has been used in countless cartoons, he never wrote them for cartoons originally. It's a great album if you're a fan of classic toon music and worth every penny.
Dang, knew it was a lot of work but that's more then I thought. I would never in my life have the skill or patience to do all that. You're freakin amazing
Believe me, he makes it LOOk easy! I have a drawing tablet and drawing with it isn't realy easy. It takes a lot of practise (and I just suck at drawing >,<.)
When you box the frames, where do you get the green grid and how do you add the lines? I've been using paths for boxing, but this seems more constructive.
Windows>Show Grid (with Snap to Grid turned on) and then I use the shape tool to draw the rectangles. After that I merge the rectangles, select the layer and Edit > Stroke to get my panel outlines. Later!
I once asked if you learned to draw alone, Lar. What do you like, pencils and pens or the tablet. I honestly love to use photoshop and pen (i still don't have a tablet), but nothing like the taste of put colors by yourself like a painter.
1. Tablet. Drawing with a mouse is counter productive. If you want to get into digital art you should invest in a tablet.
2. This comic was done in Photoshop. I use Manga Studio and PS. Sketchbook Pro is also a very nice program. Go nuts! :)
lardesouza 1 month ago
I have a few questions myself to ask:
1 - Do you use tablet or you use mouse to draw it ?
2 - In which program you draw? I tried Sketchbook Pro, and I liked it.

1: Camtasia, the screen capture software used here, let's you define an area or window of the screen to grab.
2: Not sure what you mean. I did use free transform in the initial sketch and composition phase of this strip
3: No. Sorry. Maybe in the future but I admit I hadn't thought of something like that though.

4. One question: Do you come up with the script AND draw, or just draw?
