  • DTS kicks ass, Saving Private Ryan (Omaha Beach scene) Special Edition on a Sony HTDDW750 500W Surround Sound System, Hell Yeah!

Pity they are not making DVDs with DTS anymore, Film studios are basically forcing us to buy Bluray for superior audio, Assholes

  • Dolby sucks

  • @HamishW96 I agree. Here's a good way to test it. If you have any of the Uncharted games (I recommend 3) Stay at the main title screen, then go to options, audio, and switch between Dolby Digital and DTS while a song is playing, assuming you have a receiver capable of decoding it. In DTS, you'll hear instruments more clearly, and the dynamic range will sound less compressed. Infamous 2 and Final Fantasy XIII also sound amazing with DTS.

  • You sound like doc from metal gear solid :P

  • so DTS is always better than dolby?

  • @nuocmat yes

  • I can't wait to get my Sony STR-DH820 receiver and SA-VS310 speaker system for christmas, and finally experience my PS3 games in DTS, and my movies in DTS HD MA :D

I get excited just thinking about it ^_^

  • @Ninjadude973 How are you liking the STR-DH820. I want to buy it and wanted to know what you think. Now that hopefully you have used it for a good month

  • @jesseoo323 You're right, I've had it for roughly a month now, and trust me, it is well worth your money. I have it paired up with Polk t15 bookshelfs for left and right, and CS10 for center. It all sounds amazing, especially at higher volumes. It probably isn't as customizable as you'd like, but it works just fine. My only problems would be that it takes a while to learn how to use everything, and there is a lack of bass when not using the sound optimizer.

  • @jesseoo323 Other than that, a great receiver for low price, especially if you get it on sale. I would highly recommend it :)

  • @jesseoo323 Oh and also, I'm using the PSW10 as my subwoofer.

  • @Ninjadude973 Thank you for your response it was very helpful towards my decision. Im definitely going to get it. I have an old Sony A/V receiver and after 6 years its acting up sometimes. So its time to upgrade. Thanx again

  • another thing people needs to know is that dolby applies its own range of "dynamic range" or volume normalization. DTS does not do this. in fact most blu-ray's today are going for DTS-HDMA over Dolby TrueHD for that very reason. DTS unleashes full sound at its original volume, the way it's meant to be. This is why I'm so eager on getting Polar Express 3D blu-ray so bad, not for the 3D but for its DTS-HD MA audio.

  • Of course DTS is the best coz it has a high bitrate

  • The DTS on the disc is half bit rate as well, imagine if it was running at full bit rate.

  • DTS really rocks!! Dolby Digital lost Cinema felling

If you have a dude please see the movie Saving Private Ryan the firts 30 min or the 30 finals minutes and then tellme if you are a fan of DTS (like me) or Dolby Digital =)

Ah please use a MUTEKI Hometheater or a really Hometeather to see the power

  • @SoyoDario23 ??? as in the Sony Muteki line of audio products? Are you serious? Or are you just a fan of its' mustard colored speaker cones? Seriously, Sony/Muteki aren't even in the same world comparably to the type of gear most people commenting here are listening on. I admittedly have speakers that still most enthusiasts would shrug at, but at least Definitive makes an attempt at reproducing accurate sound. No "SUPER BASS" switches here mate...The equipment you recommend is simply junk.

  • @wogfun

Hey I know more spencibe hometheather like Onkyo how have THX, DTS etc and double subwoofer line out, (like Sony Muteki) is a better sintoamplifiquer, but obiusly is not the top line!, but yeap! I really are Sony fan, but Sony winn my respect,

do you saw a Muteki playing DTS?

  • what about DTS-HD MA and Dolby TrueHD? both will blow standard Dolby digital and DTS out of the water

  • @nyege2 That's the problem with Center channel i fucking i hate it it doesn't fit with the level of Right and Left

  • What's your Speaker System?

  • @Sanaa2k -- I used a Sony HT-CT100 for this video.

  • @mclaren777 hey I google thta model but the images are just a kind of subwoofer and a large¿speaker? all the sounds on the video are with just those two things??

  • @simpleboy98 -- Yep, it's just a 2.1 system but it works extremely well and it supports both linear PCM and all of the new HD audio formats.

  • A few years back. I bought a Pioneer 5.1 Receiver that has both DTS And DD 5.1 I was always curious about home theater DTS usage. I invited a friend over one night to watch my first DVD in DTS Surround Sound, back in 2003. It was David Lynchs' Mulholland Dr. And yes! DTS really makes your ears bleed! My friend asked me to turn it down some. Lol. I also have a few DTS Audio 5.1 Music DVD's. As well as Dolby Digital ones. Once you go DTS, you 'll never want to go back! Guaranteed! Nice Vid.

  • If you notice the setting on when you play back dolby digital look for DRC if its on turn it off because what that does when its on it compress the loud sound to hear soft sound better so when you turn off DRC it gives you the original sound. Case you don't know what DRC is its (dynamic range control) and its only on dolby digital why i don't know! Just is.

  • the bitrate doesn't say everything because dolby does compres but in a very good way.

  • DTS is the best. No doubt.

  • The Dolby Digital on this video is not TrueHd, but the older AC-3, which is outdated

  • I would like to hear the difference between DTS HD Master and Dolby TrueHD. I think TrueHd supports 24/192 while DTS HD master supports 24/96

  • @Oneness100 you are wrong.. this is what I copied from their site(DTS):

The DTS-HD Audio format also supports higher sampling frequencies (up to 192 kHz for DTS-HD Master Audio),

multiple bit depths (16, 20 and 24 bits) and various speaker playback configurations, known as speaker re-mapping.

  • @kamikazeOS well, from what I read, which may have been incorrect, was that DTS HD Master was only supporting 24/96, if that has changed then so be it. what bit rate and bandwidth are they giving us with Blu Ray, does it state 24/192, 24/96, etc?

  • @Oneness100 sincerely I don't know I don't have a Blu-ray player or disc...sometimes all these specs fry my brain...they should make a standard and keep it

just my 2 cents ..have a nice day y'all

  • @kamikazeOS if you go to wikipedia, DTS HD Master only supports 24/96 in 5.1 mode. It does support 24/192, but that is only 2 channel. I should have been a little more specific. TrueHD from Dolby supports 24/192 in 5.1 mode. So if you get a BluRay disc with DTS HD Master, they are only giving you 24/96 maximum for 5.1.

  • DTS Is uncompressed-725kps

    Dolby Digital is Compressed-456kps

Soon DTS-ES Matrix will be more available

  • DTS just sounds like it's even more heavily compressed and dynamically vacant.

With loudness levels brought up exponentially

I love the argument that "Louder=Better"

  • @fonarte

Exactly I don't get how he comes to the conclusion that it's better because it's master volume is louder. I can take the MP3 and normalize it to 200%. Does that make it better than the 100% one? I'd like to see a better argument because this test is worthless.

  • the apparant difference between DTS and DD can be experienced better in theater. DTS sounds great .

  • DTS is alot more like the sound you get at the Movie Theater.

I like DTS quality but i dont like how dialog is often very low volume and special effects are high volume. You get the feeling that just because DTS is awesome they have to use it's features to the max and it ruins the experience somewhat.

  • Trust me I have a THX speaker system and DTS Master Audio is louder that Dolby True HD every time.I even have both versions of Jurassic Park on DVD (Dolby 5.1 and DTS 5.1) and there is no comparison.

  • Well thats because Dolby Ditital uses much higher compression than DTS.

DD ~ 500 kbps DTS ~ 1.5 Mbps data transfer rate

Most movies sound the same, even better with DD but when it comes to Music DTS is much better.

  • use dts

    just let dolby go

  • For those out there saying that "Bit rate" Means nothing...

You guys need either a ear canal cleaning or better quality equipment...I'm not audiophile but DTS is way better than Dolby by a mile

Bit rate does matter just as it does with stereo music, a song in 128Kbps does not sound as one on 256 or 320...with the right gear and setup you'll hear the difference..I promise!

  • All this proves is that the DTS track on this particular DVD is louder than the Dolby one. It would be impossible to prove that one is better than the other with a bog-standard stereo YouTube vid anyway. My advice to people is get a live demonstration and judge for yourself.

  • Definitely could hear the difference even on my 1 speaker laptop. Can you maybe do this again sometime, I couldn't really see the numbers very clearly in the upper right.

  • shiiit :O

my TV has SRS and Dolby :( damn, also i have to convert goddamn DTS everytime with mkv2vob -.-

  • DTS pwned the double-D

  • Thank you for the clarification!

  • All all of theme get their but kicked by TrueHD, DTS-HD, and PCM :)

  • @FendersRule Yea but then DTS-HD still beats TrueHD.

  • Haha, Weird, I was paused on the exact same screen as 1:00 and came to youtube because I wasn't sure what format to go for DD 5.1 or DTS 5.1.

    DTS ftw.

  • By exact same screen I mean same DVD/Movie everything...

    Freaky =p

  • well i read few dts dvds do the 1.5 mb thing but who knows

  • @Suncreation666 well i will do that even though i trust my ps3

  • @Suncreation666 well my lethal weapon dvd's have dts and it's bit rate shows 1.5

  • Dolby Prologic II or... DTS Neo:6

  • dts neo 6

  • Dobly ProLogicII or DTS Master?

  • dts mASTER

  • That is like a night and day difference. The DTS track is better in every way.

  • The only problem with DTS is that that most of my newer DVD's don't have DTS.

Its also the same as the THX optimized DVD's

I can't find newer movies with THX or DTS.

But at least DTS is common on my Blu-Rays.

Cause yesterday, I had just gotten a Blu-Ray disc player.

That was also my first time watching some of my DVD's with DTS.

  • what movie is it

  • war of the worlds he does say

  • Very true i mean take Quadraphonic for instance i believe Tommy was the first the ever to use that technology and many record companies used it too.

That was then turned to Dolby Surround Sound as we know it.

Honestly i'm not understanding all this HD sound maybe it's just a ploy to pretend it's new technology thats been around years and they are repackaging who knows?

Only Bluray will eventually answer that one i suppose.

  • Sorry thats "I believe Tommy was the first film" lol

  • I think it depends how it has been mixed, for instance "The Beatles Love DVD-A" sounds much better on DD than DTS and I must agree on most of the cases the DTS sounds better than DD.

  • Without a doubt DTS is better.

I've a got a nice yamaha rx-v357 with Eltax speakers (Moviemaxx).

When Switching to DTS you can hear the difference in tone and clarity.

The high end is clearer and the bottom end gives out more thud.

  • Hands down, DTS-HD, DTS ES, DTS period is wayyy better than DD...Movie sound has changed for the better.

    DTS R U L E S!!

  • The first thing I do when I rent a DVD is to look on the back to see if it is in DTS. Unfortunately, 90% of DVDs do not have this option. I think mainly because DTS audio uses a much higher bitrate, and that means it takes MUCH more space on the DVD. I also think it might cost more to do as well.

Anyways, it's a shame it's not more widely available. I do prefer it, always have. I love the DTS Demo discs they make, I listen to them all the time.

  • Yeah, this is a really ballsy DTS movie. Another is Resident Evil - the DD track sounds like I have pissy speakers, while the DTS just comes alive and makes my Bose 901's sound like they should. DD is the poor man's surround format.

  • Dolby digital got OWNED!!!

  • very nice,

although, i lost the remote to my dvd player, now I cant change to dts on anything, lol :(
