They wanted to be human, they never got their wish. They killed themselves, they were not human enough and never could be. It does have deep meaning, because it was written and intended to be, and the directors of the film (Daft Punk) want people to interpret it however they like.
Thomas and Guy were trying to forte that people dont like "different", and that it's not necessarily a bad thing. In the movie, they were tests to see how the town would react to two new people that are "human"
@googledude23 They were representing Daft Punk in this movie. but the human clay or whatever masks are actually what they are supposed to look like. they decent but theres pictures of them. and they wanted to be human. they grew out being a robot. so they did the clay thing walked into town feeling happy but get attacked them more traveling then the part I could spoil! ;)
To be human is to manifest emotion on the outside. They looked very proud walking down the street with faces. But the world would not allow it. In the end, they do the most human thing possible: take their own lives. The fire that stole their humanity is used in the end to end their "non-humanity"...they become human after all. They took control of the flame. The man on fire at the end is a metaphor. What melted his humanity is now the thing to radiate it.
@Exogenesix19 The movie is called Electroma. its in the name of the video and shows part of the movie. it is a very sad movie. some people may not get it but I understand it all. like they said they didnt get it but I started explaining it and they just said "were did you get this information?"
A 'disco pee' occurs when the bathroom you are using has a faulty light which flashes on and off sporadically whilst you pee.
e.g.
"I was just in the the bathroom there having a disco pee" "A disco pee?" "Yeah, you know the way the light flashes in there whilst you pee, reminds me of a disco"
a truly moving piece of film looking at this film France, Germany, and Japan are centurys ahead of Hollywood in how the medium of film can be used to convey emotion and portray ideas in an ofen philosophical manner that the UK have done as have some Czech films, but not like the film capital of the world, European films are FABULOUS, ELEGANT, FLAMBOYANT, MARVELLOUS...
This is the same thing with me...instead of robot to human...im human to robot...in the end..the plastic and metal stuff wat i wear is half rusted and scraped...SAD! I WISH I WAS A CYBORG OR A ROBOT!
I love the way that they can emply so much emotion with those simple static robot faces... you can see that the silver robot is in total dispair and can't beleve the surgury was a failure... and the the gold robot is just really pissed off...all emplied using body language
fucking amazing song, fucking amazing film. french culture is amazing, and full of sense.

@EvilManProductions
when they made it, they didn't mean for it to be interpreted any way, they said it could be taken as happy or sad, everyone's different.

this is fantastic cinematography! Quite disgusting but not to the point where I could puke. And the delicate music helps the situation.

This is the saddest part in the movie in my opinion. I was surprised that this movie was so deep, considering its about robots.
stuff like this really makes you think...
