I like how, somewhere along the way, they decided that Flaherty's character would sort be out of sorts because of a drinking problem. Every 5 Neat Guys skit has him bleary and slightly off-rhythm from the rest.
SCTV. The most underrated show in television history! I'm so glad the cast went on to become famous. They deserve it. Suddenly I feel like having a party in my rec. room; if my mom doesn't mind :)
I have a feeling no gals would show up at their party.
Some things never change. It's 12:14am and I know I should be going to bed but can't stop watching. Dave Thomas doesn't get enough credit for his K-Tel pitchman voice... makes the final touch on so many of these.
Listen very closely as the songs continue under the announcer's voice-over, because I think they're slipping some *really* inappropriate things past the censors. I caught, "She'll do it anywhere she please/She'll do it on her back and on her knees...."
When I was 12, I would sneak out of bed at midnight, grab a snack, plug the old earjack into the TV, and try not to laugh too loudly at SCTV when they showed it on Nick at Nite. My mom caught me one night and instead of yelling at me or banning me from TV, she gave me my own set of blank VHS tapes so I could record these geniuses of comedy. I never saw this one, though. I love it!! Thanks for posting these gems on YouTube. :)
@vmvlkc, if you're asking if there's an mp3 version of this "album," the answer is "no," simply because it's not a real album. If I'm misunderstanding your question, I apologize.
I wish the dipshits who call themselves "comedians" these days were half as funny as SCTV. SCTV wasn't crude, controversial, or preachy-- it was just funny.
I remember " I've got a hickey on my shoulder". I have sung that line for years just at random times, and no one know what in hell I am talking about!!
@pika23 Yeah! I know what you mean! Why do the girls run away when I mumble lines from that great old song "She does it, she does it! The whole town knows she does it!".
I loved Johnny La Rue when I watched SCTV on Public TV in the 70's 80's along with those crazy Canadian cartoon's, that always followed it!! Remember SCTV 1984 show? CCCP tv, and of course Count Floyd... Miss the show, I always thought it was better than SNL.

@pressxdarlings Yeah, I agree on that! I don't know how they slipped THOSE lyrics (especially after the commercial voice-over) past the NBC censors!!!!!!! Those lyrics are hilarious!
@rorysparrow1 It's because they're Canadian (Joe the American exception). Because Americans really don't take us Canadians seriously, we get away with murder! Ha!

Their facial expressions during "I'm a goof in the classroom" is just too much. So many people would never get this type of comedy because it's so nuanced and subtle. It's all the little things like the sweaters and the pants that are too short. But, it sure beats anything I've seen on SNL lately.
@jer1er This is a true comedy classic from one of the best comedy shows ever. Check out Connie Frankin's depressing hit collection. Another great send-up of these types of TV record sale pitches--Andrea Martin doing a fine take on Connie Francis, with a different name. There's also that Perry Como bit too. Funny stuff.

I see a mental picture of the 5 Neat Guys being one of the acts handled by Mitch Miller at Columbia in the 1950's, what with Miller's reputation for choosing the most insipid numbers for his artists to record . . .

Released in late 1953 on Columbia (4-)40138. One can guess whether tunes like this were the inspiration for those 5 Neat Guys song titles.
On a hot and sultry summer's night in the Titian glow of fullest moon did my best girl and I dance; pray thee, fall in love to the languid fervor of "Who Made the Eggsalad Sandwiches" by the 5 Neat Guys.
