Revived my dead thought tx2 (Raden 3200HD) yesterday. Let's see, how long this lasts. Only heated it with the hot air gun - no pressure or touching the chip.
Don't do crude repairs like this. This kind of fix is temporary at best - and may cause serious damage.
BGA rework should be done on professional computer-controlled dark IR or laser equipment - not with heat guns, or cigarette lighters, or radio shack irons.
There's a good Q & A at PrecisionDivision . com that explains this problem in detail.
To those of you at home:
Don't ruin your motherboards by following a silly youtube video.
This crocodile pond and placed in aluminum to protect the other chips of the risk that is also desolder or sack the processor to avoid burning .. This video is an example of what not to do
Este caiman de charco ni coloco aluminio para proteger los otros chips de el riesgo de que tambien se desolden, ni saco el procesador para evitar que se queme.. este video es un ejemplo de lo que no se debe hacer
Your wifi failed because you incorrectly repaired your system. The WIFI is a feature of the video chip. This video gives people the wrong idea about motherboard repair. If you lost wifi, you're going to lose video again. It's just a matter of time.
It's best to have it professionally repaired on real equipment - not a "heat gun". People are ruining their systems following your advice.
Precision Division in Clearwater Fl repairs these boards for around $100. You also get a 120 day warranty
If you understood the Ares/Antares/Apollo model (which you probably don't even know what I'm talking about), and if you reviewed the schematics, you would see that wifi functionality is mediated by the GPU.
bro paano ba sa graphics card ... yung GPU core chip at memory chip lang ba yung i heat ko ng hot air gun? may artifacts kasi sa akin screen at minsan ayaw mag reboot ilang beses ko pa sya reboot para maayos...
Try my copper shim rather then a penny or stock thermal pad. It is a perfect fit and keeps temps way down. Comes with thermal paste! Only $6! Search for "dv9000 copper shim" on ebay.
Your video is helping alot but can you tell me what is the settintg of your heat and air and how long it will take to do it. I did this on my laptop it works but after a day the problem started again it might be because i didnt heat enough or maybe it was just to quick i dont want to push it much as i might do more damage then fixin it.
I used a heat gun to do the trick and i also made a funnel out of duck tape and tin to direct the heat on the Nvidia Chip and applied a little presser on the chip as it was cooling . But for some reason now my WiFi just quit out on me now after 4 days of use after the FIX!!?
should I buy a new WiFI card for the tablet or is the card no geting any power?
It recently did some updates so ill check if it has to do something with the updates erroring out the os/ drivers
i read this air soldering is a more pernament fix compared to the hot lamp solution. so is it just a matter of heating up around the chip or do u put pressure on it aswell? thanks
The trick is you must melt the lead beneath the GPU... Do not disalign the chip's position. You should practice this method in some defective boards... Once perfected then you're ready to go. Remember "PRACTICE MAKES US PERFECT".
i used a 500w lamp for one minute.. it got really hot like 150c, but not directly on the chip, i found out that the solder that needed to be melted, are behind the chip, not around. the boards that i think i broke, i pressed the chip too hard, and now, wen i use aero theme. there is a diagonal line all across the screen. and when i see a video too. maybe thats the chip alignment that you mention. does that happened to you? oh, and the wifi problem, is that same solder behind the chip. Try a copper shim and lower your gpu temps. Only $5 and comes with thermal paste. Search for "tx1000 copper shim" on ebay.

@geeksarenotcool My mainboard is already ruined! So what? Paying 150-300 for a new one or trying to fix it. What would you do?

I suspect you did not installed the WiFi card as it is was before you remove it. check if it is properly seated on it position.

i Reseated the Wifi and redid the OS. But I am thinking that the GPU has to do something with the WIFI no woking
