My gelding does great turn off of his shoulder but he walks out in the middle of the pivot. how can i teach him to rotate on his haunches rather than walk around in a small circle in which he is doing
My horse is a cow horse but is very good on halter....with her being a cow horse, she is trained to pivet in the front. Will I confuse her if I train her to pivet on the front and back? This is a lot of help! I will have to try it! :)
@16horses4eva -- I have seen horses pivot on the front and back, and they can even learn to do the one pivot right after the other pivot. For example, pivoting clockwise in the rear, then immediately pivoting counterclockwise in the front. Kinda cool looking! I don't think your horse will be confused-- at least not for long! I have never done such a thing, myself, but it can be done.
This is a big help - I've been trying Clint. Anderson's pivot turn according to the pics in his book, but I just wasn't getting it. Seeing how you applied the pressure, plus some other tips I've been reading give me a fresh start for this problem area in my showmanship. Thanks!
You didn't really show us how to teach a Green horse to pivot.. but thanks

You did not mention the horse much not pick up the foot they pivot on. Sidestepping across in back is not except able.
