  • epic fail at 0:01: u dont cut the skin in the centre of the knee, u cut it more in the inner side. otherwise the patient will knee on the scar while trying to knee down which causes pain. if theres already a mistake at the very beginning of the vid u can tell that this isnt probably the most reliable source.

  • @RMCasillasF thans 4 tour comment, ill find someone else 4 my knee surgery

  • Hi, I'm from Montevideo, Uruguay would like to know where I can do something like that? that way we can contact, suffered an open fracture of the femur and the only solution here is to leave the rigid leg. I hope you will respond as soon as do to access this! I have 23 years I want a solution now!

  • I had this done December 6th 2010 and the sad thing is I'm 40 years old, but its been worth it my knee is feeling much better :)

  • After the surgery the patients cannot do knee flexion and cannot sit down Indias ex prime minister.Atal bihari bajpeyi is still walking like that even a us based doc operated on him

  • @kiranphalke I had both knees replaced 3 years ago. Already had to have 2nd surgery 15 months ago on left knee. I can not straighten out either knee and have less than 90 degrees of movement in my right knee, which was the first to be replaced. My left knee after two surgeries I have about 110 degrees of movemment. I still have pain in both knees when walking. My surgeries were in the US. I would not have had the replacements if I knew that I would still be like I am now.

  • @twoshadows412

I have treated one case like this with very powerful magnets placed on either side of the knee north facing the south and both bound tightly on the knee joint. Six months daily eight hours in the night.Good improvement has come as far as flexion and pain is concerned.

  • Excuse me for the indiscretion, but how much does it cost taking in count that a patient does not have medical assurance ?

  • @melodicspeed No idea how much without insurance but with my insurance it came to just over $23,000

  • iron man :D xD

  • @EaterOfUniverses hahahaha you would be the middle piece... jk.

  • @CaneSugarCane the best movie ever made

  • @MegaAfroGuy Do you really have an afro?

  • @CaneSugarCane yup

  • @MegaAfroGuy Is it really a Mega Afro?

  • @CaneSugarCane sure is champ

  • what's that for?

  • When you go on an airplane, and go through a metal detector and it goes off, do they open up your knee and then take out your knee (so you can put it on the tray with your wallet and keys).

  • amazing what we can do these days.

  • my mum had this along wtih 7 hip replacements. the joints do wear after time but compared to living on the original knee they replacement one is amazing allows my mum to have a normal life and recovery was excellent. amazing surgery

  • excellent animation....love it !!!

  • I was injured in Vietnam in 1970, and after 20 years of screwing with this bad knee, and one operation, I had a total knee replacement, I have been in pain and on vicadan sense then, and have less than 100 degrees flex in my R knee. In-spite of endless PT I have been handicapped with this for 10 years. The problem seems to be with the muscles in my knee, and the fact the alignment might have been off a tad. WARNING! this is a severe operation for BIG guys like me. I am the 3% that fail

  • well thats crap i have had this work done and my knee is perfect now !

  • THAT'S HORRIBLE , THE HUMAN WILL NEVER RETURN TO BE NORMAL

  • @camalaarevalo

my friend do you call not sleeping at night and not running or jumping holding every hand rail u see, and pain all day long to be normal?

i dont think so, this is made to patients so they would have a normal life again...

  • I hope you are here on this page since you were just curious, not because you are doing this operation tomorrow

  • i am so scared of surgery....

  • @KungFuChess Gentlemen, we can rebuild him.

  • something wrong with this animation. femoral side(thigh) implant don't look right. is this a joke?

  • 10! Nice! youtube.com/user/ImaginationRendering#p/a

  • That is so cool! Imagine every bone like that.

  • WHT THE FCK

  • This knee can't close with those implanted 3d models

  • thats hardcore

  • @AcuteAnalogy hmmm...never heard of it. Thanx,I'm gonna look this one up and ask my Dr.

  • I'm having my left knee replaced in a few months, I'm dropping as much weight as I can before the surgery. Hopefully I can get a few more years out of my right one before having it replaced.

  • Why replace it do I need to replace mine?!

  • @TonyFirelli - ur 22 years old. You shouldn't be replacing knee until 50+, because the last 10 years or less and you can only replace it 2 or 3 times. After that you'll be in a wheelchair

  • @dadoody that's exactely what my Dr, told me too. I had both my knees done (acl/meniscus) about 2 months ago. After surgery the Dr, told me I'm really bone on bone now.But I should wait. I'm doing cortisone shots. Which really is just a "band-aid"...To be honest ,. I'm like crippled. Take pain meds and anti-inflammatory prescrips. Heating pad, knee brace and isometric exercise everyday.

  • @MELISSA84008 - wow. What happened to you?

  • @dadoody I know right!!! The Dr. asked me the same thing! He's like you got knees like an 80 yr. old woman! (Thats attractive) I guess yrs. of sports (volleyball, waterskiing, cross country, etc),Plus I had my own housecleaning biz. yrs, ago I'd sometimes, clean 3 houses a day, washing floors on my knees. Single mom w/kids,I busted my ass!!! So to anyone reading this...take note!! Protect your knees when your young!!!!

  • @MELISSA84008 - Well.....maybe one day they can implant you with bionic legs :)

  • @MELISSA84008 Well, that's where I was. I had acl and pcl all those surgeries. That is what caused the bone on bone. I am in my second week of a total knee replacement!! Wow! Wasn't not expecting this. It hurts ! I will let you know the long road I am sure it has to be better than what it was before!!

  • @sandrala6 Oh Nooo! ugh!! I am bone on bone both knees...here in Florida they just recently passed a law ...those after surgery only have 3 months for pain meds!!! Because of all the abuse @ pain clinics...my Dr. told me how sorry he is,it's out of his hands ..he said you'll be on pain mngment the rest of your life and that Tylenol and drugs like that eventually wear on the liver!!! ...Does ur state have legalization of medical marijuana?!

  • Is anyone here having done the knee replacement in the age of 40?

  • I am in the need of one but doctors say I am too young. Would like to see if anyone out there has had one at age 40. I have bone on bone in my left knee. Help!!!

  • @havertwins I'm in the same boat!! My heart goes out to you!

  • @havertwins please read my comment above!! I'm so sorry...(see if ur state has passed the medical marijuana law to help w/ chronic pain!"

  • @NikoBal68 Im 42, my Dr. won't do it, he says I'm too young...because alot of times they wear out and have to be redone,,but there won't be enough bone to attach the "fake knee" to!!! So you want to wait as long as possible....If I knew all this in my 20's I would have babied my knees,,but no one ever said anything!!! Thats why we need to share our knowledge :)

  • @MELISSA84008 My doctor says the sane thing and I am 51. I am overweight but very active still. I split wood want to continue Karate and ride quads. He told me that it would last only 10 years if I do all these things.

  • My dad is having one, and it can take 2 years to recover.

  • how do you go through medal detectors???

  • it does set the metal detectors off, but just let them know you have had knee replacement done or you can get a letter from your doctor.

  • thanks

  • everybody serach this on google virtual knee surgery its an game its good to understood this

  • Your knees are never the same as what God gave you after a substantial injury & subsequent surgery, If you are able to function relatively pain free, it is worth it. Replacement procedures & products are getting better & lasting longer. I am up for a double replacement myself. And yes, I am putting it off as long as I can. When I can't deal with the pain any longer, I will get replacement. Find a great surgeon, lose weight .prepare yourself mentally & physically. Recovery will be much faster!

  • First week after operation is a bit painfull, but then every week is beter. You can walk with crutches the second day after operation, well, not that you can, you must hehe :) The scar is as big as it is, someone has smaller, someone bigger, but you can find things in pharmacy that helps you with that.

Sorry again, but health and "no pain" is more important than apperance, if you don't know that yet, mabie your knee is not so bad after all.

Everyone here with knee problems i wish good luck

  • it is not a "bit painful" it hurts like hell and it is not manageable without hardcore narcotics. maybe you just hav an unusually high pain threshold.must learn to work through the pain especially during PT. PT can last up to 12 weeks or more and the work at home while alone is even more important.

  • Hey, i ment to say one thing, and i wrote another. You're right it does hurt and it is painfull, but you don't have a choice, because you can't turn pain off, and without the pain it's impossible, because it's not so easy operation. I'm now 11 weeks after operation, and i'm still doing exercises and electro stimulations. I can step with leg with full weight, but the problem is, that i must to go to the same operation for other leg too :S

  • i have had both knees replaced, one year apart. pain was bad, but at least there is a end in sight. It now has been 3 years for the first one and 2 years for the second one. Totally glad I had them done. New things are being discovered every day, knee replacements are getting easier to deal with.

  • Sorry "lia19651" but are you serious? How can you ask if the scar looks ugly, if this operation is needed, that means, that you have serious problems with walking. Correct me, but i think that is more important, that you walk and walk without pain and you have scar on your leg, than that you can't walk, you have beautifull legs and you are in bed all the time or walking with crutches in pain.

I had that surgery month ago, and i must to say that is worth of every pain

  • someone please help! I am due to have knee replacement surgery, I am terrified!!! Can anyone tell me how it feels, how soon can you walk about up stairs etc and how bad is the scar? I love to wear knee length skirts and am worried that the scar will look ugly. How quick does scar fade? Does makeup hide it?

  • You will have a very large, ugly scar for the rest of your life. Sorry but short skirts are not an option. However, you can walk up stairs almost immediately with hanging on to the railing. Canes or crutches are helpful at first. This is an extremely painful, difficult surgery and recovery is ongoing for many months. Good Luck!

  • new things are being developed all the time. Knee surgery 3-4 years ago was alot different in terms of pain than it is today.. hospital stays shorter, ect, just make sure to do your excersises.

  • metal place in you body look very mess up....

  • Anyone know if it is safe to jog after this procedure? I mean after it's fully healed...

  • Before my knee operation I was a great sprinter.I mean I could move fast. But after I had both knees replaced I tried running, it was an odd feeling and required a lot of concentration. It was as if I had heavy weights on my legs. My daughter can catch me with ease. When I was at the beach I concentrated very hard and I was able to run faster on the hard wet sand. I guess you can jog on a tread mill.

  • Hhmmmmm.....that's weird. I've had an ACL repair and ever since then it feels not right when I run or jog. Only time I ever run or jog is when i'm kinda drunk 'cause it's pretty much painless. Here's the weird part. Last time I went to the beach, about a month ago, I noticed walking on the sand was working my legs out. Once I tried jogging on concrete my knee felt as if I had never messed it up. I should go to the beach more often....

  • surely you must be kidding. the healing process can go on for a year and the advice of surgeons is definitely not to jog.

i have just undergone a double knee replacement and i simply do not understand how you can even think that far ahead, there is a great deal of trauma to the soft tissue and the nerves that simply takes time to heal.

you should get an attitude adjustment before moving forward with the procedure.

  • they tell me I can ski, play tennis ect and have put no restrictions on what I can do but check with your doctor. I have had both knees done.

  • I've just started jogging after two years since my ACL reconstruction. It feels ok and very stable. I guess all that weight lifting on my legs is actually working. Doesn't feel 100% but it's good enough. Once I get the confidence, I'm going to try and sprint or atleast run. I'm going to make sure I have on a pro knee brace before just incase. Wish me luck!

  • Good for you. I have to ask why you would have a knee brace on for? In case of what? What do you think might happen?

  • @chiquisbaby81 - 2 years...? What also did they replace? If it was only an isolated ACL tear and replacement, you should have been running on it since 3-4 months after the surgery. By 2 years, you should be running marathons lol.

Also, I recommend running forefoot. Look up barefoot running and POSE method. I think running heel to toe and doing heel strikes causes problems.

  • they split open ur knee theyll probaly put u 2 sleep

  • @sarina180 probably...?...

  • I am having a knee replacement in 12 weeks ! I think I will cut my throat instead ! Sheeesh ! Scary ! (But informative)

  • I had bi-lateral (double) knee replacement 9 weeks ago. It has been nothing but a positive experience. I'm already better than before the surgery. Still discomfort, and still working on strength, but it was worth it.

  • Hi FG, can you pls guide me through the knee replacement process, test, time taken, medicines, physiotherapy after operation, exercises etc. My MIL is getting ready for a knee operation... pls reply

  • Hi. Here's the schedule: xrays indicated need -- 3 rounds of steroid injections over 3 years, then stopped working. Surgery took 5 hours for both (4 is usual, my right knee was really bad). Hospital stay 4 days. Pain Meds were oxycontin, oxycodone, plus anti anxiety (off everything in 6 weeks).. Acute rehab for 2 weeks (because I had 2 knees), then home. PT starts in hospital and still at it. Advice: do the PT; have someone who'll take care of you when you get home. Pain is manageable.

  • don't go cut no throat dude, you'll have terminator for a knee, that qualify as awesome.

  • Im having it in 9 days ;-)

  • Im 3 weeks after knee replacement. No need to worry mate :)

  • WOAHHHHH that was cool. Not cool for the person but one of the coolest surgeries.

  • OMG - this looks sooooooo painful. So short but extremely informative!!!

  • short video but informative! :) thank u

  • I know someone who had both knees replaced after crushing them in a car accident.

I don't know how he makes it through airport security.

He must have to have a note from his doctor that says he had orthopedic surgery.

  • lol - that was funny.

  • wooooooooow...we have advanced to a totally different level in terms of medicine

  • my mother did it - FYI too much paint for the pacient and many physiotherapies afterwards - but if there is a problem just do it.

  • question? do you think it's safe for an 80yr with your diabetes to get a knee replacement?

  • yes if the person doesnt have any suddn drops of blood pressure i think

  • niccccccccccccce

  • wow thats a cool idea looks really durable (stainless steel) but you know what they say you can never make them like how GOD did...

  • 1. this is not science, its medicine. get your definitions straight

    2. Introducing the concept of God is anything but small, it challenges to look beyond what your can't see

    3. Any doctor will tell you that a healthy young knee is better than a metal one.

    God: Infinity

    You : -1

  • If we didnt have medical science there wont be hospitals - doctors and ppl will die from simple Influenza (Flu) because there is no antibiotic made...

  • now*

  • hi i just tore my acl on friday and scheduled for an x ray tomorrow do you think i would be able to play after recovery? and if so will i be lacking in explosiveness, quickness, and limited in movements? thanks doc!!

  • you may be able to play after 10 months+ of rehab! depending on the success of the operation and the rehab.

  • This animation is neat, but inaccurate. You do not cut off the end of the femur and put whatever that thing was they indicated. You make several cuts to remove the remaining cartilage surfaces and place a sleeve over the end of the bone. The tibial component is illustrated correctly.

Making these bone cuts correctly is challenging and the most common point where the surgery is screwed up.

  • what does the knee cap doo???? just slide on the femur

  • it keeps the bone from pinching the mussel.

  • holy shit ur rite, nvr knew that

  • oh shit... thats cool.. but ehm.. nasty :P

  • its like wearing knee protection when skating, when falling, keeps the joint from damaging

  • Gives great perspective of the procedure, without showing the actual "brutality" of the actual surgery. I think its a good, but more gentle view of it.

  • Does not inform.

  • how much time it takes to recover and to walk again?

  • just had surgery on both knees 5 weeks ago and was basically walking without a cane in less than 2 weeks. It varies from person to person of course.

  • medicine is amazing

  • superb very very informative

  • this doesn't show the alignment phase or demonstrate the use of trials

  • robocop;)

  • definitly robocop. xD

  • how does this surgery affect the pain of a person with neuropathy?

  • Greatly, I would imagine.

  • very good video, just what happened to ronaldo in 1999

  • bullshit

  • oh yeah? how about trying to live with osteoarthritis?? if it's not for this surgery, people would lose any mobility and suffer from pain for the rest of their lives.

  • I was answering GETINDERMAN's comment Einstein. Don't think a soccer player like Ronaldo could ever be able to play on the same level again - if at all - with an artificial knee joint.

BTW I've had cartilage damage since I was 14 so I know what I'm talking about.

  • Sorry to hear about your meniscus injury. I've had mine along with ACL tear 8 months ago :(

  • It actually wasn't the meniscus, the cartilage damage happened on the back side of the patella...

  • very nice

  • Excelente
