i dont think there are any entertainers now a days that put on a show like that and have the women just loosing there dayum minds lol them females in the background was 'on it' lol i would have loved to see someone of his caliber then
I tink that one of the TV Networks should do a Big tribute show for the remaining R & B performers of the "60's and 70's ! they are leaving here so fast! Gene Chandler, Ben E. King, Chuck Jackson, Lenny Williams, Bobby Blue Bland And B. B. King are still with us and we should play homage to them! Who should I be telling this to? I want it done, soon!
when I was a teenager this was the last song played at house parties because you got a chance to slow dance (grind) with the girl you been watching all nite but was afraid to ask a dance from. You knew this was your last chance..ha..ha..ha!!
Wow. I thought I had the only copy of this still in existence. Very surprised to find it on youtube.
This is such a tremedous thing on youtube, that younger generations can here these great songs. You didnt in 1965 and you wont ever hear this on the radio.
Not this live version anyway. This is the way it was. This is history.
I was at the regal theater also. I remember seeing many great recording artists for $1.90 I believe. My dear sister took me. Later on she said we could have stayed for the next show. I saw Walter Jackson singing "Welcome Home"; The Four Tops, etc.

rainbow 65, and 80, dam he went and did it again, this is my mommie fav, oldie but goodie, she was so old school, right up until the lord called her home on 12/17/06, R.I.P. sweet-lady, i am the youngest of five, all by her husband, our father, 47, and know this song from the back of my head, cause she luv it so well, i am the splitting image of mommie, i want/need her so much, mommie, please listen to my plee, i am looking up above, praying for more of ur luv, i just wanne reach out in about
I was humming this today doing some sheet rock. Don't know why, it just came to me and so I thought I'd check to see if I could find it on here. I am absolutely THRILLED and grateful to have found it!!!
Thank You for posting this. I first heard this at the St. Albans Theater in Jamaica Queens, NYC in 1965 when @jbreezy I was 15!
I'm now 60 and still spontaneously jump up to do my moves (air mic) with waves of goose bumps running through me, and the volume set at 8 on my 200 watt amp!
@miiiishaohmisha i first heard this song in st. albans queens...blew me away! did you go to andrew jackson? i am 62...its nice to see someone who remembers good music from back in the day.
@bronze1914 Hey MAN! I'm 61 and went to the HS of Art&Design in the city, but went to summer school at AJ summer of 67!!!.. Ever hear of the Omega 8? We used to stage parties all over Queens from 65 thru 69 church basements town halls even Manhattan Center in the city. Man now you got me thinking about Paisly Park and all kinds of chicks in my past, heh, heh..
Classic soul from one of the stars of R&B. His delivery is so passionate it must have been inspired by personal experience. Long live soul music, krxn11
first of all i'd like to say that i usually dont like live versions of ANYTHING unless im at the concert, but THIS jam right here is the shit live!!!! For all you younger generation, im so fucking glad ya'll are keeping this real music going... share it with everyone you know, because this is music before it became "the game"!!!!
R Kelly reminds me so much of Gene, Maybe because they both Chicago's own but Gene was a headliner in the 60's and he is a great showman, anytime the Chicago Revue came to DC with him as the healiner, the late Barbar Acklin, the Chilites, The Artistics, Lee Charles, and the 5 Stairsteps you were in for a great show.
@bchacon21 Prayers on the way. Sure hope he gets better. Tell him to sit down and listen to some good ol music. It will help him. Sure hope times get better. Later
mann let me tell u, i love this song, especially part 2, im only 23, man these youngins these days dont have any soul, i put this song on sand sang it to my gurl and she looks at me crazy, man i think i need me a older woman wit some soul, some one who can stop this rainbow in my eyes!
i LOVE this live version of this song..omg u can imagine how the women was acting at that concert lol im sure they had panties thrown everywhere the way they were screaming and hollaring thru the song haha..
my father used to have this recorded on cassette tape from a 45 with a crack in it...so, you could hear it...but it popped sometimes...lol...I used to think that this cat must of been the man...
My dad played that tape when we went on fishing trips.....thanks for this one...
this is still the bomb many people like myself enjoy it all the time and its very good to listen to when your with that special somebody enjoy the past because the music the play now is all from there just mixed differently they cant seem to come up with anything original maybe because this is the original stuff
Got my heart broken for the first time by an ninth grader. My mother had to stop the rainbow in my heart. She said, "Boy! There will be plenty women where you are going (Bethune-Cookman)."
OMG, i fond it. my mother use to play this soung when i was 6 years old and every since tthen i fell in love with this song. And here i am now 25 and still in love with it. GREAT!!
I was in Fort Gordon and used to sing this song in shower. I was new there and a platoon leader who used to call caidance herd me and he asked me to sing it again the next day. I said man, I was singing just feeling it at that time. Homesick. He cut hair and was good at it. He said he woucut my hair for free if I did. The next day, " ther er eres a rainbow in my heart.
The only person i know who sampled this is J Dilla on his song"Last Donut of The Night" on his Album "DONUTS". he sampled the beginning of this song, when he was talking
gene has got the women screamin their asses off don't he, hope my mom wasn't in this crowd 'cause that means she woulda' been acting a fool too........all joken aside gene sung the hell outta this
maaaaannnnn!!!! i was about 12 or 13 when i first heard this song.. it really changed my perception of music. 18 years later it still ROCKS!!! tell me bout someone that can say PLEEEEEEASE! better than Gene Chandler... I dare you!!
one of my all time favorites..saw him sing this at the regal and this girl jumped on the stage and held on to him for most of the song..i was soooo jealous...thanks for the memories..
I know that he brought the women to their knees!!!!! Because he's doing it to me just by singing this song. Thank goodnexs he's singing on youtube and not in person.LOL!!!!
my mom had me n my twin brother as her personal dj's from the age of 5, we r makin 37, i love all the oldies but goodies, n my 14yr old daughter love lots of the old school her friends think she is weird of course because i taught her the right music, n e way i love gene, he had me lmmfao at this live version i say man.
u r so correct, every time i hear the live version when i play it i mock the girl dat scream, i know they had nasty panties everywhere lol damn it was a nasty day.
Love this song! There was a group call "The Boogie Kings" that Jerry "count" Jackson sang this OMG he did it justice. And A band out of Houston The Gratful Geezers Henry knows he can do this song with Soul.
there's a rainbow in my heart. dam this song is sooooo much of an oldies but goodies . i remember this song way back in the 80tys. i am 34 now.. this is music thdey can not re make this not now or ever.
This song brings back a lot of good memories. Lots of parties with the lights turned down when they played this; and it lasted what seemed like forever, but we didn't care.
I was 13, Mr Chandler was in town to perform. I was too young to go and I loved this song. Ran into him as he was coming to the concert site - (yes it was a coincidence I was not stalking) He stopped and gave me an autograph and I (feared? hoped?) he was going to reach out and uhh "BITE ME!" Glad to report he was a gentleman who gave me a life time thrill and memory and no bites. thank you for this track.
@Denisepage28 I can relate. I saw him in concert at age 14, I think. Reached across a car giving him my "something" to autograph. He gave me a once-over look and seemed to be saying "she's too young" (At 14, I could pass for 17 or so)
i saw Gene sing this song at the Appollo when the song first came out amazing that I play it now and it still brings chills this song will live forever
I will never forget the day that I played this for my Mom and some of her friends and relatives at a family gathering. I believe they thought they were back in the 60s. I myself who was born in 1963 love this song.
im 19 and i also like this ! my dad listen to this all the time im glad i love this type of music alot of young folks disslike it sadly enough! but NP ill teach my kind's how to listen not with your ears but with their soul !
didn't know of this song till I saw him in person in Vegas in the 90's. great song and to see and hear the women scream and act that way was a show its self. thanks for the song.

This is one of my favorite 60's R&B slow songs ever, it didn't get much better than this one, a 60's R&B classic!!

Oh Yeah!

I will never forget the day that I played this for my Mom and some of her friends and relatives at a family gathering. I believe they thought they were back in the 60s. I myself who was born in 1963 love this song.
