@garble11 Well, I have had one Ctenopoma Acutirostre in a brackish water tank for 2 months, with several Silver and Green Scats, two Monodactylus and this guy is ok and growing :)
I have 10 ctenopoma, but as mine get older/bigger, their leopard colours fade. I was told that this is because they are in a dark, safe environment, but I am worried that it may be a bad thing. Could it be their diet? What do you feed yours? What's your water chemistry like? Thanks
I'll have to post a new video. They are 5 inches now and really amazing. We have them eating sinking pellets with the occasional guppies for hunting practice. They took a couple of years to get to full size. They are not at all agressive in our tank. We have lots of plants and cover so they are very comfortable in their surroundings. That might help.
Two questions. How big do you think the fish they're housed with would need to be ? I own an african brown knifefish and would like to house these with him.
also, when full grown, would they eat freezedried bloodworms? I hear they do when small, but I want to make sure for when they're older.
@Macgruber13 Maybe. I had 2 Senegal Bichirs with a 4 inch Leopard Ctenopoma and they got along fone. But when I then added some congo tetras, a clawed frog and 2 african butterfly fishes the bichirs went on a killing spree and killed everything but the Ctenopoma. Maybe they leave him alone because he was with them from the start.. so try at ur own risk man but be sure you can return the cteno if need be
whats the REAL deal about this bush/gourami/leaf fish fish? what is it, is african bush fish the real name, couse its no gourami neither is it a leaf....WHAT THE HELL IS IT x), realy want to know as i will trie to get one or two...thanks...
Theres a bunch of names for them, like african bushfish, leopard bushfish, leopard gourami etc, theyre anabantids which means theyre related to bettas and gouramis, theyre like the gouramis of africa
We started out having them in a 10 gallon when they were small. Now they live in a 46 gallon, heavily planted tank. They need lots of plants for cover. They come out a lot more if there are a lot of plants because they feel more comfortable. We feed them flake food, small sinking pellets and we raise guppies for the occasional treat. It is amazing to see them hunt their prey.
I have one two but it was too territorial for my community tank and even went for my ghost knife fish and they' re quite big! i had to separate the leopard ctenopoma it into another tank with two catfish, but they all hate each other but are compatible enough!
That is interesting because we have no problem with these ones. I had read that they can be agressive but we haven't seen it. They are about 3 inches long now. We don't know if they are male or female.
my fish is about 5inches and am thinking of trying to put it back in original tank again to see what happens. i reckon if they are in a big enough tank they are probably less territorial although mine was in a 3foot tank. they havent really got teeth so can t do too much damage apart from a bit of bullying, but i m only going by my experience and other ctenopama s might be better as this is the first one i ve kept. good luck with them
Ours are fine together. No agression. I think it depends on the gender of the fish and some are possibly just more agressive than others. We lucked out.

I've heard of some predatory type fish recognising their owners individually for food, do these get any degree of tame?

Mine does. He certainly know when it is feeding time and when it is not.

It's an Anabantoid, meaning it's related to bettas, and can breathe air with its labyrinth organ.
Grows up to 8". Predatory towards small fish. Fits in with most tanks that don't contain small guppies or very aggressive cichlids.
