Quick Tutorial to 2-D Animation

I has a question, why even bother using flash? Why not draw in Photoshop using the lasso tool, and then change the opacity of your layers to 50% when you're done with a frame? That is the same thing that onion skinning does, except it requires a more than a single click. I think that would work much better and you wouldn't have to jump back and forth between programs. Great tutorial btw.

@SalvationStudios1 Well for me, Flash is difficult to use becuase I've only mastered the basic stuff. It took me weeks to make a minute-long sprite fight. It turned out pretty good, but the jackasses on Newgrounds gave it terrible reviews because there were no sound effects or background. I just don't really like Flash that much and made my post because I think he can do his flash 'stuff' in Photoshop just as easily.

You probably heard this before. But why do you color in photoshop instead of in flash? Your animations are great either way i'm just curious.

Photoshop has so many more options than Flash. From simple coloring to effects like blur, gradient, glows. Different brushes. You know, a WHOLE program dedicated to making each frame look professional.

When ever i use the render video settings you are using I get a really big file like 165mb for like 3 seconds of video with 20 frames. How big is your finished product???

Do you lower the quality for lower MB??

my finished products are about 20-30 gbs in size so that is rather small when it comes to HD. I use a program called ultra video converter which converts those 20gb videos to about 100mb but still keeps the HD quality.

Have you tried installing codec packs like cccp or k-lite? I remember having large files when I wasn't able to select 3rd part codecs... But after I installed, I had the options to choose the codecs I want.

Depends on the frame rate. If it's 5 minutes of people talking with slight movement then it's a week of animating and coloring. If it's 5 minutes of all out fighting like in my In-Game teaser, then it'll take months.

Easier? well I've been trying to work on a tutorial that goes into great detail ob everything. I'm planning on charging for these tutorials since it'll take a while for me to put together.

When it comes to different characters, I'll do a tutorial showing multiple people on the screen.

why can't you color it in flash?

Flash's colors are too basic. In PS, after coloring, it's extremely easy to shade, then I can manipulate the colors if I don't like them very much. I can also blur or ad glows to attacks. If you look at my new videos, I add a blur effect on Pain's Shinra Tensai. That isn't possible in Flash.

That's just the tip of the ice berg.

It takes time but with onion skin and my tablet laptop, it's pretty fast. I can make multiple moving scenes in a day when one time it'd take me hours to make one still.

It can be two things. You're either trying to color in frame X when frame Y is selected or the you drew something with the lasso tool and you haven't unselected it yet. I'm leaning towards the former.

I have the animation ready, but when I export it to AVI, 640 x480, the video is all scratchy and blurry. Some colors are dithered and the quality is very low even though it is set to best. Any way to make the quality better? The image quality of the images are great btw

Oh yea of course. In fact, since I made this, I found out that Photoshop CS3 has onion skin so you can do everything in PS. I haven't learned how to use onion skin on PS because I love Flash too much :P

It depends. Easier animations like "Sage Naruto Returns" only took a weekend while "Hinata's Confession" took me a month because of all the complicated movement. My newest project will take even longer because it has complicated movement and it's in HD. -_-'
