90% of the people who criticize Meryl Streep have never seen her movies smh, that woman is one of the greatest actresses of all time. You cannot determine who should win if you haven't seen the other roles nominated.
It´s incredible the romance of Meryl Streep with American public, I don´t see nothing worthing about her, for me Glenn Close or Julie Andrews are much better.
Astonishing performance, highly deserved win. I only consider Vivien Leigh in GONE WITH THE WIND to be comparable, although Joanne Woodward in Three Faces of Eve and, in more recent history, Charlize Theron in Monster and Marion Cotillard in Vie en Rose were also oustanding.
Meryl Streep could play BATMAN and she would make a terrific job! She's just amazing! She would be nominated ;). She has been nominated 16 times, and, for me, she has won most of them... or tied with someone else.
Julie Andrews looks gorgeous! I am probably her biggest fan ever and as much as I think she deserved this award Meryl deserved it also. It is so hard to compare such drastically different performances in such extremes in each genre!
FUCK YES! sorry, but she deserved it. She was astonishing in that film. No comments after watching it, it left and it will still leave people with their mouth's open. Or they'd just say Oh my damn. Love her to freaking death!
Frankly I think the reason she hasn't won another Oscar despite all the nominations is due to her performance in this movie. This is the benchmark that she is always compared to, and it simply cannot be toped (by anybody for that matter).
Premier Magazine listed this as the 3rd greatest film performance of all time. No one who has seen Sophie's Choice can honestly argue that she should not have won. It is simply astonishing.
I've only heard of sophie's choice but never saw it, but Meryl is without a doubt one of the best actresses of our time and I gotta see it , luv her she's so beautiful
Un año de lujo. Qué maravilla de actuaciones, como tal vez pocas veces se han visto. Meryl realizó el papel de su vida. Cátedra de lo que es ser actriz.
Her skill's on this movie were amazing!!! I only saw it once (Could NOT handle watching it twice), and that scene when that basterd tell's her "To pick a child" still sends chills through me.
The 1982 best actresses nominees were all great! But Julie Andrews looks gorgeous, dazzling and undoubtedly the most beautiful - every inch the star! Meryl was given the Oscar, but her movie is one you see only once in a lifetime. Victor/Victoria is such a wonderful musical comedy; you can watch it again and again. Julie was such a joy to watch in it.I wish the Academy would give Oscars to comedies as well, like the Golden Globes. Both Meryl and Julie were winners that year. They were great!!!
@nlee035 NO! Meryl was better than Julie. I love Julie Andrews but you can't seriously compare any cinematic performance by a female over the past decades to Meryl's performance in Sophie's Choice. You seriously can't.
There was NO doubt Meryl would win. One of the greatest Best Actress performances, arguably second only to Vivien Leigh in GONE WITH THE WIND. Other terrific winning examples were Ingrid Bergman in ANASTASIA, Joanne Woodward in THREE FACES OF EVE, Sophia Loren in TWO WOMEN, Charlize Theron in MONSTER, and Marillion Cotillard in LA VIE EN ROSE.
@loghen01 thank u for ur comment...i thought I was the only person on the planet who felt like that...and then gets flack when u express that opinion...so thank u.
@mlc2005 Yes they can. There is no such thing as the best performance, only opinions. In my opinion Jessica Lange's was the best performance and I hated Streep's performance in Sophie's Choice. I felt that she really deserved an Oscar for her performance in Silkwood, that performance amazed me. Just comes to show that when it comes to acting no one ever has the same opinion.
@mlc2005 Is it? I mean, she's fantastic in it, no doubt about that, but the greatest perfomance ever? I highly doubt it, and I've never heard anyone say such a thing ever.
Really?? She should have won for Music of the Heart, over Hilary Swank in Boys Don't Cry and Annette Bening in American Beauty? She should have won for Ironweed? She should have won for One True Thing?
I love Meryl Streep but Jessica Lange deserved it that year. Her portrayal of "Frances" was far and above the best that year. Streep comes a close second. That said, I just have to say that most of the times that Streep has been nominated she has deserved to win and has not. She deserved to win in 1987, 1988, and I forget the year but it was for "Bridges of Madison County", 1998 she was far above Gwyeneth "Who?? and of course last year for "Doubt".
Like if you've watched this 29 years after Meryl won her 3rd Oscar.
