hey im getting the zx5 readyset for christmas. I just read ur comment on how i need to upgrade the diff tubes. is that the same thing as the outdrive cups? and if so which ones do i need to get? part number or the name of the part please thanks a whole lot for the other info!
I suggest you get the 3racing one because the Kyosho one you will actually need to buy the "Tube" and the "Ring" separately which is more a pain. For the 3racing one, everything is included in the item for the outdrive cup and the ring.
Did the ready set ZX5 version tranny gears and shock towers hold up with a brushless 4700kv system on a big jump track just curious????
Does the stock speedo aka esc (not your new one) have a lipo cutoff too by chance? I got a Hpi cyber 10 B but this looks like for the price it would have been a better deal
I wouldn't buy the RTR version (though I did because that was my first 1/10 buggy). The front shock tower is weak - u'll need to upgrade for sure, rear is okay coz in Average, most of the damage is done in the front, "first". Surprisingly the tranny holds up fine - I'm using "3s" on 5400 with MAMBA MAX now with my "STOCK" tranny and gears and they're holding up fine.
The only thing is the you will 100% need to replace/upgrade the front and rear diff tubes with Heavy duty steel ones. The stock turnbuckles are good as well, no need to upgrade. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any questions - more than willing to help out!
Someone Correct me if I am wrong but the stock ESC cannot be used with Lipo. It does not have lipo cut off. The stock Motor and ESC are not good, at least in my opinion. I do not recommend them for bashing or racing. Also, the radio is not good as well, I had a lot of problems with mine with interferences. It's not reliable.
The only electronic part that I am using at this point with my current ZX-5 is the Servo.....for bashing....it's not strong enough but I can use it for bashing and rough driving.
Nice car and mods options but does the tranny hold that strong brushless combo ? ( sorry I dont know if are the same tranny in the rtr or kit versions ) I plan to buy one and run it off road, no tracks near to me
In my case yes the tranny is good enough. I am putting a mamba max 5700 combo (on route via mail now) in the buggy (60mph I heard top at 3s lipo). In my case, I'm not a hard core basher so I can't say 100% for sure if it's going to do well for you. But it's a very nice kit with lots of options available. Plus you don't find much 1/10 trucks or buggies that can fit 3s lipos - if u;re planning to use 3s like me.
Yeah, thanks mate. You are right, I had to drill a hole in my stampede vxl chassis to fit a standard hard case 2s lipo. It can not even fits a flat 7 cell nimh stick. The handling of the lazer zx 5 should be a lot better because is 4wd and lower CG. I could buy a new monster truck for bashing but they are very expensive and almost of them uses two battery packs
you mean like the E-Revo Brushless Edition 5608 Monster Truck? :D Yes I have one too! And you're right, these MT are very good for bashing and pretty durable. :D Get this Lazer ZX-5 if you want a 1/10 buggy - there aren't many good choices out there to be honest. Handling is great, I just added front and rear sway bars for my ZX-5 2 weeks ago :) --- and I found out I DON"T NEED THEM :) I recommend you to buy the Lazer ZX-5 SP Kit., not RTRs (there's an orion version, rip off) or the FS version
To be honest.. a kyosho lazer zx 5 rtr or an e revo 1/16 is all I can afford ( both of them are below of 300 $ ), if the rtr version of the lazer zx 5 is not good enough then I would buy the revo 1/16. Thanks for all that stuff, you will think " this guy want a new car but has no money lol. The point of this is I am really tired about the traxxas stampede
hey no problem. I ain't rich, going broke actually if I keep buying R/C stuff. the 1/16 E-Revo is a good little truck. I'd say get the E-Revo 1/16 if u want to bash. The ZX-5 RTR is not good enough, you need to upgrade like crazy - I've been there. Example is the radio suck "s h i t", also the Plastic drive tubes will wear out in about 5 runs with Brushless Power. If u don't want to to spend 700 USD on this then don't buy the ZX-5 or u'll be disappointed - might as well fully invest elsewhere.
I"m an expert with the ZX-5 (not the FS version though), any questions, dont' hesitate to ask :) I goto the RCGroup and the Toyz forum regarding my ZX-5 - name is carrotcake
Great! Nice to hear man! You're absolutely right the RTR can't really take much...ONLY if you DON'T UPGARDE :) -- You will love it when you do your upgrades.....One of the things I like about this buggy is that upgrades are easy and you have a lot battery options to fit into the car :) If I were you, I'd spend extra 20 bucks or so for a Mamaba Max with 5700 - INSANE SPEED WITH 11.1V LIPO! INSANE! Tho the Sidewinder is an awesome ESC but it runs hotter than Max
Dude, trust me, you will love this buggy!!!! If you want to get into Electric 4WD this is one of the best choice ever!! :) Thanks for the comment by the way! Kyosho rocks! BTW nice choice on the inferno st..it's a very nice car, I have seen videos of it!
sorry, 9 months later and I bought a e firestorm flux. Its way better than the stampede. Anyway I miss a cheap/good 4wd

And - Yes I kind of regret not getting the Mamaba Max but I still like my Sidewinder 4600kv with 3 Cell Lipo :) - fast enough !

Wow you have done some crazy upgrading... :)
The stock RTR can't unfortunately take that much beating. We have had some serious troubles to keep our buggies rolling.
I have Sidewinder 5700 KV combo and many carbon composite parts on order. My ZX-5 will be sick!
Post video!
