Im looking for a new phone now and i'm wondering whats best, i've just come from the nokia n95 8gb and wanna know a few things

I've heard the battery life and lagging and spontaneous rebooting of this phone is abysmal?

i have been a nokia head since that spike tv commercial where a kid says... fuck the iphone..its all about the n95....remember that one.. well anyways.. i got it and then the n958gb and then the E71 and then i got the N97 and i hated that fucking phone its was a horrible experience well i went back to my e71 and i would love to know if the n900 is as good as an android , i still say fuck the i phone but i also say fuck the N97.. i just wanna know if its worth spending $500+ for the n900?

ive got a ipod touch(awesome). And a nokia N95. Upgraded to a N97, Wouldnt recommend it, total failure as nokia is concerned, I was prepared to wait until new iphone which will be released by xmas 2010, After great research I am the owner of a nokia N900.n If you a nokia fan you will not be disappointed, if you have not had nokia previous you still will not be disappointed, This is a top phone and the only challenger to the iphone as far as iam concerned

i thought skype or google talk had nothing to do with cell phone carriers. skype would not be using 2g or 3g service but using wifi and skype or google talk just like a laptop or computer....i had an N95 and it still had the web cam in it...

yes users can use wifi for skyping, but in Europe they can also use their regular service, and that is a commitment us carriers don't want to make.

and your right that would be the logical thing to do. use wifi to skype or video chat but the carriers dont have enough faith in their customers to use wifi for video chat. so the us carriers just ask the manufacturers to remove the front facing cameras. so ur right the us carriers should step up but they don't bc the truth is skype, GT, ect. just arn't popular enough in the states to warrant front facing cameras. very sad though

then why has every other phone that has had a front facing camera on the European version of the phone, get stripped out when it comes here to America. Answer, carriers here in the US don't want to, not can't, don't want to support the data usage associated with video chat.

The N97 was a complete failure, the phone was very slow and the screen not very responsive... also the user interface was a step back.

The N900 looks more user friendly and smoother and also more responsive than N97.

The N900 has generated alot of interest, why? because rather than always recycling stuff i.e always trying to update like N95 then n96 then N97.

That's why N958GB and Nokia 6300 was popular. Nokia downfall was following the trend instead of making it.

You make one mistake - which is underestimating the opensource community. It's not Apples apps that make iPhone good, neither it's that way for any other smartphone manufacturer. I just scrapped my iPhone and im loving my N900 the more I use it. This phone really fullfills my nerdom ;) I also bet that Nokia isn't going to let Maemo die, not by a long shot. The N900 has gotten more advertizing coverage than any former Nokia model.

Yea at the end it's all about the apps. And people make apps for popular phones. Androids and iphone are already enough for developers to play with. And androids are open source and backed by google and countless cellphone manufactures. Why should they move to a platform that's only being used on 1 cell phone for 2010. And don't forget that N900 lacks capacitive screen and therefore multitouch, which is immensely important for creative apps. Not to mention N900's bulky brick like look.

Even Nokia stated that they intend to focus on the lower end market a few weeks ago. They KNOW they can't compete. Motorola was smart enough to realize that. Their new CEO ditched the whole dying symbian division and focused on androids. It's just shock me to see Nokia is still in their own little world. WAKE UP AND START MAKING REAL SMART PHONES!

In the end neither of us could be correct, only time will tell. What I do know is that I'm enjoying my tablet alot, and the fact that im no longer dependant on using the apps Apple sees fit, and indiscriminating competitors software. I'll be blogging about the phone later on, once theres more software available (January I guess), and I'll be sure to drop you the url aswell - hope we could get some constructive discussion going on then! :)

Sounds like u r a apple hater, why not go for android instead? their market is pretty much free from the chains of google and have way more apps than Ovi store will ever have. It's not that I hate Nokia, they have always made good phones, at least for the hardware. It's just whenever I see an interview from a nokia representative, I am shocked to hear how much behind they are in thinking. I know you sunk a bunch in Symbian, but it's time to move on

Define "more powerful". I don't have a android myself but I have an iphone. I can run ssh on my uncracked phone and do all the unix/linux tasks remotely on my desktop. If I decide to crack the phone, it's basically an unix system. But the point is there's a good reason why mobile platforms are different from desktop, they are designed specific for them. Being open a xterminal serves no purpose except for fulfilling your nerdom.
