  • Oooooh this song has 2 guitars in it but your playing both parts. sweet

  • Hey thanx man! Really needed to learn this song for my band. YOU ROCK!!!!!!!

  • thanks for the lesson

  • well done it sounds really close to the actual thing! :)

  • What are your effects settings?

  • @LeLandBaron that's little chorus and reverb with zoom g1x pedal.

  • In spite of the fact you play very well, you aren't a good 'teacher'. This video can't teach anyone how to paly this, you shouldn't try making 'tutorials', if you don't know how to...

This video shows nothing.. can't learn from this.. I couldn't.

  • 最高です!

  • @hentekonet ありがとうございます!

    偶然でしょうか、先日短すぎる電車のビデオに高評価させていただきました!

  • picks right up, with all that percussive string scraping. Any tips for the right pick to use for the funk?

  • @pollywoggle24 incidentaly i'm also fan of dunlop pic. i have 0.71mm to 2.0mm various pics.

so finally i choose 0.96mm for all the kind of play.

by the way, Nile Rogers gave me the pic directly from their live stage in Tokyo Japan at last year.

That was Planet Waves pic, but it's just like Dunlop 0.71mm.

i think it would be fine if we could play funk riff like 'Chic'!!

  • Hey teacher, I have an off the wall question for you, what kind of picks do you use? I'm a big fan of Dunlop's pics, and I play a pretty wide range of rock stuff from Zeppelin, to Aerosmith, GNR, Kravitz, lots of blues stuff, and lots of funk stuff like RHCP, in my cover band around college, and while I've been playing for awhile I just haven't seemed to settle on the right pick. I notice when I play with heavies everything sounds big, and they're hard to use, but this stuff just EATS little

  • thank you so much! great tutorial

  • great lesson

  • my bad dint watch the whole thing lol

  • you should turn your neck next time, but thanks

  • ewe jealousguy, i putted a comment on your channel, can you read it?(greetz from yordi from holland:) )

  • Many thanks, you saved me a lot of time with this outstanding tutorial on the real way to play this tune. Hope to see more tutorials of yours on the funk style of guitar playing.

  • @steady2900 yes i will do it!

thank you very much for the nice comment. it's very nice this could be some help for you.

    cheers!

  • Correction to my last : A#9 ... Yeah, that's what I meant! lol

  • Great tutorial. Anyone serious about ironing the wrinkles out of 'Pray dat Funky Music' (lol Sorry, had to do it!) can gain a lot from this...the turnaround with the Ab9 & B..7-9(?) and a couple of other nuances of the song have always been my sticking points...thanks greatly for clearing that up! Again, great job and thanks!

  • @MHFROX it's very nice that this vid could be some help for you playing.

and to pronounce the 'play' is really difficult for me lol by the way.

    thanks and cheers!

  • @jealousguy0310 lol Hope you weren't offended by that...all in lighthearted fun. (got a 'stand-in' gig coming up in Sept and these guys are TIGHT, so, better tighten up my own act, as well. Thanks again...rock on!

  • bro.. great, helpful and nice work.. nevermind the haters they are speaking of themselves, you rock. THANKYOU

  • @six7rock thanks for your kind words. i wish you all the best !!

  • Mind blowing

  • Bb9 played as x5656x, C7 x35353, B7#9 x2123x

  • good job ! you can add a C7 between the Bb9 and B7#9 on Lay down...

so i hope you can get how to play with this video.

  • thank you so much sooo helpful!!!

  • Out of all the tabs and videos I've watched this is about as accurate as any I've seen. thanks -

  • Excellent job - thanks for all your effort in making and posting this... It is appreciated. Keep up the good work... oh - and your English was fine - use it all you can and it will get even better... Mike

  • @midflamagi thank you very much for the kind words. i got motivation.

    i really appreciate it!!

  • Thanks for the lesson. Might I "Suggest" that in the future you try to position the camera about a 1/4 turn to the right of where you are sitting.

If you are going to go to the effort of making and posting a lesson, and we are going to watch it, and try and see what you are doing.... It would seem most advantages to actually "SEE" what you are praying, and not just watch the back of your hand... Many people make this mistake. Not important to look straight at camera, fretboard angle is.

  • @adamsmithwastheman thank you for the suggestion.

it's little bit difficult to inform something with camera and my english on the video.

but i will care about it in next time!

  • @adamsmithwastheman you are an F wit mate!

  • are you really asian? hmmmm

  • I thought when you said 'wild cherry' you said white boy :L

  • hey you played this so well, im not to formilluar with the chords you were using, if you could go over them just a little, or make them a bit more visabul that would be amazing

  • thanks for the suggestion.

so i hope you check it out with chord book or web search.

it's normal 7,9,7(9)chord on this song.

  • Thank you so much for this. I too gave up the guitar (in frustration) 30 years ago. Just sold the Gibson ES 175 I have had in garage for 28 years (Always hated that guitar) and got a Les Paul. Which I love. With the help of great people like you here on YouTube, really for the first time, I am enjoying working with it again. Thanks again! I am looking for a "movable" 6th chord to use for R&B. Can not find a voicing that sounds very good. Do have a favorite voicing for a 6th chord?

  • wow you have same situation about the guitar and welcome back to guitar world again!! :D

about 6th(13th) chord, that makes me feel of bossa.

but i never had a opportunity to play that kind of music for a while.

so i'm usually in diatonic +9th.

anyway keep it up together! thank you for the nice comment!

  • dude your good
