I want to recommend a book on music I think you'll really find useful. It's called 'The Musical Idea: And the Logic, Technique and Art of it's Presentation'
It's an english translation of a lot of Schoenberg's idea's on musical organicism; that is, having music evolve, like an organism, from it's most basic seed into a coherent 'being', existing only as elaborations of the 'gestalt', or 'motif''. It's quite profound -showing beautiful ways to listen and create music.
It reminded me of
bach
scarlatti
mozart
schuman
something schubert
