My father died when I was 8, my mother never got remarried but raised all of us kids by herself. Since we didn't have any male role model we grew up to be OK individuals. We just work as physicians, lawyers, and business owners. Women like my mom should not be allowed to raise kids without men because they are incompetant.

Procreation was about more than creating a loving family. It was important for the economic, social, and political well being of the family and the community. Children helped with work, and were used by their families to build alliances with other families.

I was raised with a mom and dad too. I'm a lesbian. Never met a lesbian, or even heard the word "homosexual", "gay", or any other reference to LGBTQ issues when I was growing up. Never.

How far do family units extend in terms of how they effect society? Family structure is personal and unregulated by laws. If you want your wife to stay in the kitchen while you're "the head of the house" that's fine with me, but that's not for me. I enjoy diversity and equality.
Gender roles are actually very important. I'm sure you have experienced the different natural strengths found in the different genders. Gender is in integral part of an individual, and both sets of strengths are important for child-rearing. A husband and wife a free to decide what roles they will play in the family, but you can't deny that the woman will be better at some things and the man will be better at others. It's as natural as gravity.
Gender roles are socialized and I'm sure you know that now ALL women are better at one particular thing than ALL men. Ok, so under your logic we should then ban an unwed woman from having a child and probably re-assign children to a home with a father and mother if one of their parents should die. So let's have a Proposition in 2010 that children should be taken away from all single-parent families. You can't have it both ways. I'd prefer a child has two loving parents. The American Psychological Association has concluded that in ALL cases, there was NO difference in a child being raised by a same-sex couple or a heterosexual couple. And strangely enough, more kids grew up gay when raised by straight couples than by gay couples.

We should only allow no stress lives, ban marriage for all people who can not provide for possible children that they may or may not have. My father died when I was 8, my mother never got remarried but raised all of us kids by herself. Since we didn't have any male role model we grew up to be OK individuals. We just work as physicians, lawyers, and business owners. Women like my mom should not be allowed to raise kids without men because they are incompetant.

I think mainstream christians are nice people but they're easily manipulated by the church. If they just think a little they'll see that marriage is not sacred, 75% of straight marriage are ended up in divorced and another 25% are in trouble. And I haven't even touched the child abuse and domestic violent. They need to look at themselves before point fingers and they go against their own christian teaching. I was raised with a mom and dad too. I'm a lesbian. Never met a lesbian, or even heard the word "homosexual", "gay", or any other reference to LGBTQ issues when I was growing up. Never.
Still, knew I was a lesbian by the time I was 12, even though I had no word for it, had never seen it on TV, read about it in a book, etc.. (I'm old.)

I study families & child behavior. There are many children in bad environments due to the SELFISH DESIRES OF ADULTS WHO PUT THEIR OWN SELF-FULFILLMENT OVER THEIR CHILD'S NEEDS. One lady in the Philippines, whose husband ran away from her, and since she can't get a divorce, her life can't move on. Divorce is necessary, although unfortunately abused at time as an escape hatch out of marriage. Nevertheless, it has to exist.

I guess they're a common law marriage. If they want to get legal papers they can. At least they are a man and a woman having normal affections and sex. And they can be a father and mother and have their own lineage. Two men or two women can only pretend to be married because they can't consumate in a true way or create any offspring only addopt. This isn't a hate issue. There is no hating going on. Yes supporters are not trying to get votes through fear, and neither is the no supporters. If you are trying to use God and Jesus as an example to support no on 8, then you should read the bible where God destroyed the city of Sodom and Gommorah for being gay. He won't destroy cities if there are good people in it. That means that there were no more good people in Sodom and Gommorah, so He destroyed them. Thank you for your time.

Um, because this isn't communism. Equal rights doesn't mean share everything. Equal rights means that under the law everyone gets treated the same, whether they are homeless or have a home, if they are starving or if they have food, if they have jobs, or if they don't. You don't see us banning homeless marriage do you?

I completely with your argument that doing things the BEST way doesn't have to be the ONLY way. However, there are always ways of doing things that actually worsen the situation. There is plenty of room for parents to teach their children in different ways. However, when children are indoctrinated by society to accept immoral behavior, that is WRONG. It's not just a different way to do things, it's a damaging way to do things. Please consider deeply the act of redefining marriage.

Thank you for being the first person to offer me personally, an intellectual argument to my comments. My usage of the word "best" was meant to be somewhat sarcastic. However, text disallows sarcasm to be easily recognizable. I just want to bring to light the fact that many marriages between heterosexual couples with children are unhealthy in their own right. You WILL not ever completely eliminate domestic discrepancies. Also, what you view as "WRONG" is widely argues around the world.

In other words, you believe in the dichotomy of the gender binary system that women and men are limited to their feminine and masculine roles in society and, more importantly to you it seems, in the family household.
How far do family units extend in terms of how they effect society? Family structure is personal and unregulated by laws. If you want your wife to stay in the kitchen while you're "the head of the house" that's fine with me, but that's not for me. I enjoy diversity and equality.

Gender roles are actually very important. I'm sure you have experienced the different natural strengths found in the different genders. Gender is in integral part of an individual, and both sets of strengths are important for child-rearing. A husband and wife a free to decide what roles they will play in the family, but you can't deny that the woman will be better at some things and the man will be better at others. It's as natural as gravity.

Gender roles are socialized and I'm sure you know that now ALL women are better at one particular thing than ALL men. I believe it's an individual characteristic that you're attributing to gender as opposed to other aspects of one's cultural identity. I don't think it's as natural as gravity. Gravity is physics, gender is socialized/ a concept made up by humans.

Divorce is hard on children. This happens because a couple does not know enough about each other to get along well. The more you know about each other, the better it is. The more you date, the more you know about them. Divorce is not limited to straight couples. Gay marriages can go wrong for the same reasons.

Exactly. You are just reinforcing my argument. Gay (and straight) marriages will not fail because of the gender associated with the spouse. They fail for various reasons, one of which you just mentioned.
I am not claiming Gay marriages are immune to failure. I am just explaining that they should have an EQUAL chance of success. Any rational human being should admit that ALL of human kind should be treated EQUALLY, especially under the law.

Most people think that Prop 8 takes away the right for gay people to marry, but it doesn't.If a gay man can't marry a man, he'll marry a woman. Is it worse in God's eyes for a man to marry another man or to destroy a woman's life for the sake of hiding.

Ok, so under your logic we should then ban an unwed woman from having a child and probably re-assign children to a home with a father and mother if one of their parents should die. I mean, we are clearly looking to ensure the child's welfare. Families have come in a number of sizes and shapes since the beginning of time. Studies have shown that there is no bearing on a child's success (or lack of) based upon being raised in a gay home or hetero home, do some research before making assumptions.
