I think this fight could have gone either way. To say otherwise is just picking favorites. Machida was a little more accurate but Shogun landed more strikes and completely neutralized Machidas game.
If Shoguns corner wouldn't have kept telling him that he was winning I think he could have pulled out a more decisive win in round 5. Machida was really feeling those leg kicks and wasn't light on his feet at all. Either way it was a boring fight. People haven't commented much on that.
The way to beat machida is to imitate him. If you watch I think round 2 or 3 when machida presses forward shogun fades away and puts both hands palms facing machida.

Hi. I'm also a shotokan karateka. I think we all would have liked things to go down differently last night. I was very impressed with Rua, so I'm not gonna make any excuses. Rua fought a great fight, and he could have won that decision. But you yourself being a shotokan karateka know that Machida is going to learn from what happened, and he'll be back stronger. I think Machida probably got hurt early on. He wasn't himself. Respect to Rua. Hopefully we'll have a rematch with a clear winner.
U can't just count the strikes landed, you also have to count the damage and the combination of different arts and techniques it's not a who can land the most punches and kicks contest

How many times have you seen decisions won by people chopping away at legs and taking away mobility (especially in striker vs. wrestler match ups)? not to mention when your get kicked in the leg it's all you think about.

Also people are not really concerned about him fighting best rather they are more concerned about whether he's fighting in the UFC or not!I think casual fans, only believe in the UFC, so as good as fedor is, they're not really gonna watch him until he signs with UFC! If there is one opponent left, it's probably brock, not because of his talented fighting skills but because of his size, strength, and atheleticism!
But after fedor brutally knocked out Brett Rogers, i dont think it'll be any different with lesnar if they ever fight! Most likely it'll end in armbar, or tko, fedor winning it in 2nd round!

What are you talking about? Back in the day, he beat Heath Herring, And Nogueira twice, and this was when those fighters were top contenders. More recently, he's beaten two previous UFC champions consecutively, Andrei Arlovski, and Tim Sylvia, and before that he beat the first UFC champ Mark Coleman. Not to mention his victory of Crocop.

Who can trust an athletic commision to pick judges that let Steve Mazaggati continue to ref. The guy is horrible.
Machidas comments about winning 4 rounds and A.Silvas about how he won 5 rounds is enough said in my book. I think he knows it was a draw or he lost. If it was me I wouldn't even entertain the media unless I thought I had something to prove.

I think this fight could have gone either way. To say otherwise is just picking favorites. Machida was a little more accurate but Shogun landed more strikes and completely neutralized Machidas game.
If Shoguns corner wouldn't have kept telling him that he was winning I think he could have pulled out a more decisive win in round 5. Machida was really feeling those leg kicks and wasn't light on his feet at all. Either way it was a boring fight. People haven't commented much on that.

to be honest i don't think u can intimidate machida, yea that kinda strategy worked on mike tyson (and because he didn't prepare enough and took drugs on the fights he did loose) but machida has been fighting his whole life, he was brought up in karate which disciplines you to have no fear, if anything to have a chance against him you would have to frustrate him, like shogun did. But that's unlikely to happen aswell because machida took a beating on his legs last round as didn't slow down

It's Machida's era and I think the Shogun fight showed him that he has to train harder if he truly wants to be the best and I think now that he's had such a close tough fight he will train harder than ever to keep his dream I honestly see a transformation in Machida in a rematch with Shogun much like GSP with Matt Hughes only Machidas first fight was much much closer

Toe to toe fighting is the most uneducated way to fight. Toe to toe is also known as "NO Strategy".
Muhammad Ali did this too "stick and move. Yet he is known as the greatest boxer of all time because of his methods... Ali took the least damage and laid into his opponents when they gassed out, Machida does that too.. I too am a shotokan Artist, and I can tell you, Machida knows his art well and applies his craft effectively. Not to say RUA was not good just did not have enough that night.

Watch his fights, he puts his fight foot (south paw btw) on the outside of the other guys left foot, making it awkward, plus when he moves back its actually cutting angles making them chase him through a maze streight into his punch. Notice people cant seem to get a solid hit on him.

I will explain Shotokan in a way you can understand in your own culture. Hi. I'm also a shotokan karateka. I think we all would have liked things to go down differently last night. I was very impressed with Rua, so I'm not gonna make any excuses. Rua fought a great fight, and he could have won that decision. But you yourself being a shotokan karateka know that Machida is going to learn from what happened, and he'll be back stronger. I think Machida probably got hurt early on. He wasn't himself. Respect to Rua. Hopefully we'll have a rematch with a clear winner.

Yes two different things, Bare knuckle hurts MORE! Old school traditional Karate is Bare knuckle and there is a reason MMA uses gloves now too. Too many fights would end too fast for the fans with bare knuckles. I think if you ask any of LYOTO'S past opponents like: Rashad, TITO ,TIAGO, FRANKLIN about punching power of Machida. How many times have you seen decisions won by people chopping away at legs and taking away mobility (especially in striker vs. wrestler match ups)? not to mention when your get kicked in the leg it's all you think about.
I don't know maybe it's just me but when a solid straight power hand punch lands I recover a lot faster then if someone gives me a good leg kick. Especially in deep water.

Regardless of that I still would not like a low leg kick to the thigh of i had a choice but i would take it over a clean shot to the face....especially with out gloves if that were the case and from the likes of Machida.
Proper training one learns how effective a technique can be if applied the right way. There is a reason Lyoto has never lost a round in his career before his match with Shogun.
