Just bought this camera after my Canon SD790 IS Elph was shattered at a party after having it for about 3 years. To me this camera doesn't compare to that one. Maybe I'm just so use to that one but this one just isn't adding up to me for some reason. The sound quality is HORRIBLE. Am I missing something? Maybe something is wrong with the camera? But it seems like when I record and play back I can hardly hear the video. I do have the sound up as far as it goes to my knowledge. Hugh?

Best compact pont and shoot? It's the Olympus PEN (any of them, or insert any micro 4/3 of your choice here). This is BS, but people are stupid (ok, ignorant), so this will still sell.

@dbauernf Olympus PEN is def. NOT a simple point and shoot. You can change the lenses and it's way more advanced when it comes to manual options etc...it's a hybrid between SLR and PAS.

@juliajoppien You CAN change the lens, but you don't have to. Put it in auto mode, it'll do better then any point and shoot. I'm aware of it's manual options, which, again, you don't have to use (and most compacts can do manual now anyways).

huh, i have a powershot sx130is, it has all those features for less that 200

it also has the features of this camera plus a shutter speed priority, aperture priority, 12x optical zoom and 48x digital, and a manual mode. the only thing it doesnt have is 1080p video, only 720 at 30 fps

also it runs on AA batteries :/ so you might want to buy rechargeable

but you can never go wrong with a canon lens anyway

All these crappy point and shoot compacts have more-or-less the same performance. "Nice results on an ideal lighting situation like a bright sunny day! Not so impressive results when it's night time or in a dark room!" Well there's a surprise (!)

Just stick with the higher end LX5/S95 (or now S100), X-Z1 and similar if you're going to be reviewing compact cameras.

@randomrazr the 500 HS is pretty much the same camera it's just bulkier and it allows continuous shooting speeds of 8.2 FPS like the canon 7D does , the new one to look at is the Canon S100 it's a lot more like the DSLR's and is still a pretty compact point and shoot plus you get a lof of the new options that are on the other canons AND it unlike any of the others so far has the digic5 processor in it which is much faster than the digic4 that comes in all the other canons right now.
