thanks for posting ... I wonder if this fair was modeled to be somewhat like the 1893 chicago worlds fair. A lot of common elements.

That statue of Pacifica was pulled down and destroyed by the army when WW2 started. They used some of the the buildings for barracks.

Ppl in California did have accents at that time

For awhile until 1960's but after that the accent is gone

McDIni's Diner in National City,Calif won the food menu award at this fair

for Corned Beef.

We have the award.

McDIni's is still operating & doing great in National CIty,California.

That wasn't an accent. All the newscasts were narrated like that when I first went to the movies in the early 50's.

I was six when we went to the Fair. We saw Johnny Weismueller (Tarzan) swim at the Aquacade. We rode the "elephant train" - a disappointment as I thought there would be real elephants pulling the train. Not much more that I remember. A picture taken at the Fair shows us all dressed in our finery! Not like going to Disneyland.

Its a shame that most of the architecture was destroyed for military use. Only one building stands today.
