  • awesome acting hattsssss off to u

  • Very hearttouching climax! What a acting of Kamal Hasanji......!

  • Stupendous music score. Ilayaraja is the genius.

  • Its such heart wrenching climax..tht only once I ws able to ths movies frm start to finish..after tht I couldn't..I can not watch ths shot .....Kamal's pain in last shot..ohhh its made me cry

  • Shredevi!

  • My dad described this scene to me and i thought he was just overreacting.

But *sob sob* i agree with you dad. It actually IS amazing. ='(

  • this scene brought tears in my eyes......I liked kamal hasaan after watching this movie...one of the best climax ever to happen in hindi movies....

  • what the fuck! 6 dislikes?? Must be some people who are totally blind. =)

  • True Love........

  • @aishwarya275...I have seen the movie many times..but you did not get the message in my post..read it again after you watched the whole movie..you will get what I mean

  • I have cried first time while watching a movie in theater. True Indian kamal as being part of all film industry as leading actor. He is No.1 actor in india....I would say he one and only person who acted more than 10 languages in Indian cinema, won 4 national awards, 5-59 years into cinema...

Amitaph, Amir, Salmaan, SRK should namashkar him 100 times and learn acting from him.

  • In case you have seen the full movie can anyone tell me who suffered the "Sadma" (tragedy)....Reshmi or Somu...

  • @satishsasikumar watch the movie..i've not watched myself but have been recommended by a dozen of people..anyways answer to your question is Reshmi (SriDevi)

  • I loved that movie when it was released. My friends thought I was nuts. Glad I am not alone in appreciating this masterpiece.

  • sahi baat hai aisa he hota hai last me

  • 6 people didnt watch the movie from begining

  • Agar yahan neta na hota to ? Neta logo ne hi is desh ki maa c*** rakhi hai.

  • GET inside the TRAIN You bugger (@kamalhasan Somu)

  • Get on the train first!!!!! uffff

  • The person who disliked this video is DIGVIJAY SINGH

  • @rahuldeovatsa hahahaha very well said... the makers and Kamal are part of hindu terrorists!!! hahahaha

  • gulzar sahab + illaiyaraja + yesudas + kamal hassan.....thts it nothing else to say !!

  • WOW. The invisible giant here is ilayaraja's music. Listen @2:19 to @3:47 In perfect symphony with Kamal's acting and makes it stand out all the more. In one minute+, the music brings out many types of sadness and also foreshadows Kamal's eventual loss and desolation at the end. (Notice how the music abruptly ends just like sridevi's abrupt disappearance from Kamal's life) Also notice the segments where he doesn't use any music & lets kamal play out his act. Genius at it's height.

  • Just saw this movie on sony entertainment television for the first time, and man, I don't know if I have ever seen a sadder movie in my life.

  • damn the 80s films were enough to give a depression to anyone

    that was their excellence

imagine the current bollywood where there are no actors ,only stars

would the breeding brigade of kareena or any1 ever reproduce a masterpiece like this?

  • I don't watch movies and cry, but there's only two exceptions to that: Bambi and Sadma. I cried while watching this movie as kid, and I almost started crying watching it again today, and I'm 28 years old. Kamal Hasan is one the best actors in the entire world.

  • @MrJoinuptoday if you understand tamil or telugu...watch MAHANADI if you cry till the last drop of your tear! watch MATRUDEVOBHAVA in telugu..and ANJALI in tamil, telugu or hindi.

  • very emotional scene

  • very emotional scean

  • excellent acting by kamal hassan.he is a legend

  • sadma part 2 should make

  • I could not control my tears. Wonderful performance.

  • am also kushi.

  • am also kushi.

  • this scene always make me cry....its a real hurt...

  • wat a performance by tamilans......

    Actor - kamal haasan,

    Actress - sreedevi,

    Director - balu mahendra,

    Music composer - ilayaraja,

    Lyricsist - kannadasan

    Hats off to these tamilians......

  • @MrSritheking I would like it better if you said INDIANS. Its sad how we keep this divisions seperating us.

  • @siriusfreakme I agree

  • thums up if u agree that kamal hasan is the most versatile actor in the indian film industry.

  • Just mesmerized with the acting of SIR Kamal Hasan we should say........should be shown in the other parts of this world i guess.......audience will like it for sure.......

  • I have no cried in 27 years - shed tears again after watching this scene. Absolutely heart rending. Kamal - you are truly TRULY the master.

  • hrt touching!!!!!!!

  • please someone make a sequel of this film in which Somu try to find her and in the end they meet. Someone should make it just to please audience...i'm sure people will definitely find it interesting and watch the sequel too....

  • @justchinniye This will never happen because there is no actor who can match the acting abilities of Kamal. Kamal is older now and will not fit the role and even if he did pProbably even Kamal cannot repeat this performance. Simply stunning last 10 minutes of Indian cinema.

  • One of the best movies in Bollywood history.

    I remember I watched it when i was about 7 or 8

    I'm from iran and I'm 21 now

  • @khpunkrock you got the dates wrong, this movie was first released in 1983

  • @kolaverydii I mean for the first time

  • @khpunkrock ok i agree

  • For almost 90% of the film Sridevi stole almost every scene she was in with Kamal but then in climax she recovers from madness and her memory gets restored to her real self which was that of a modern educated cold hearted female and Kamal's character who sacrificed so much for her is just casually forgotten by her and when sridevi looks at him as if he is mad its too much for him to bear and then the train goes away kamal has lost his sanity and sits on the bench! very very sad!

  • saw 12 years before still unforget able.........

  • Whole movie is a good msg but end is not... She could atleast ask dt wt happened after her accident .... But anywaz it may not be a real story.... Bt I feel very sad for d guy.....

  • This movie is jus fab frenz.... I jus love this movie specially the true sense of kamal Hassan which was so neat n pure... Hi never took d advantage of the innocent girl n cared her at his best... But if the end could hv been the happy , d movie would hv been the usual story... If u take it professionally .... D end was superb.... But d message from this movie is not good ... This means ppl shud be thankless... Kamal Hassan d superrrrrrrrrrrrrr actor should make it's part 2 n should show sridev

  • Kamal is very good actor...expression is a very good...

i like this movie but ending not like bcoz everytime end happy...

I like cinema, songs and kamal acting...

    yes, Love is invisable ...

Love is Truth and Truth is Love...

  • DAMN DAT WAS INTENSE... THEY DONT MAKE EM LIKE IT ANYMORE LOL

  • bang on... masterpiece

  • bang on... masterpiece

  • Sridevi ruled this film until Kamal Hassan the legend got a chance to show off his chops, Steals the show.

  • Man, that was some extremely powerful acting by kamal hassan. Right up there with the best scenes ever.

  • when of course she was shown to gain her consciousness and memory in totality. To me that was her best role in her professional acting career which has etched her name right in to that rare list of female protagonist luminaries who gained their prominence and iconic status in Indian film industry through their acting skills rather than the cheap displays of their skins.

  • @MardeHurr

That part was indeed the best of her best performance-Sadma.

  • No doubt a memorable and knock out performance from this talented artist and deservedly stole the major portion of credit from his female protagonist colleague in the climax.

Sridevi, on the other side, do deserve a huge applause from the viewer and critic after her amazing histrionic display of a complex role of a woman who accidentally suffered from an amnesiac cum autistic disorder and later had a complete control on her difficult role right in the end

  • Sridevi dominated the major chunks of this memorable movie or I must say completely overshadowed the performances of her colleagues until right in the end the main protagonist Kamal came up with this unexpectedly awesome and thundering display of emoting skills, which was full of emotionalism, desperation and anxiety immersed in lunatic antics where later he dejectedly sat down on the platform bench to rue his fate and the eventual calamity which overtook his whole demeanour.

  • dam makes me cry ever time...............

  • lovely, slut kamal hassan

  • lol What a pathetic ending! Well, I know Kamal is versatile actor but plot of the movie lapsed into mawkish sentimentality near the end;In reality, I hardly think any die-hard lovers would do such a thing as Kamal in this movie-ya of course it's just a movie isn't it? WTF Sridevi said to him? "porukki' screw that bitch, get another!

  • Dr.Kamal Hassan is always a show stealer....alas poor sri devi..dint het national award 4 dis mvie...Dr.Kamal stole it all in last 10 mins

  • 4 legends of Indian cinema...Kamal,ilayaraja,Balu Mahendra, Sri devi....they rock in dis moview...

  • this movie makes me cry everytime....

  • I can't see it to full coz my heart cries for kamal hassan!!! excellent performance

  • the acting in this movie of sridevi is outstanding.. the best of her career.. but kamal takes off all that credit completely from her just in this ten min climax!! interestingly this movie is the last move she acted against kamal.,.. it is said she was upset for not recieving due credit to the role she played(infact she did)...they had some best of classics together in both tamil & telugu...

  • @pratap9j

let alone National award, Sridevi did NOT recieve one SINGLE award for Sadma/Moondram Pirai. She was nominated for Sadma but that year Shabana Azmi had 4 nominations, 5th being Sridevi for Sadma and Shabana deservingly got the award but really sad for Sridevi not getting any award for a perforamnce like this.

  • Omg i feel so bad for him..

  • very emotional scene just can't watch Kamal Hasaan, but he's excellent!

  • ROFC

Rolling On the Floor, Crying - Kamal

  • best movie

  • WOW Ilaiyaraja Background...no words.....

  • How best you can try to make your best lover in your life remember what you are to him/her , when he/she suddenly turns stranger ? I am all in tears...

  • ruk

  • Fact of life

  • Kamal Hassan is truly a living legend. I Salute him with both arms. What an end

    very sad

  • got to have a lover heart to watch the last scene,,,,,,,kamal hassan is a true master piece.... kamal is an oscar for indian cinema

  • I remember seeing only seeing the ending of this movie as a kid because the start had been cut out. Now I watch it years later and it's such a sad but beautiful scene.

  • OMG see kamal at 5:39 his eyes are about to fall off......

  • sridevi has such perfect eyebrows 4:12..shes so beautiful even now at 48!!!! luv her!

  • So sad. ending for him...this is a case which nothing comes out of good act and kindness.bad karma

  • i luv this movie

  • For this scene the legend Kamal hassan won the national award...or else would have gone to Sridevi for the movie...but Kamal did an outstanding job at the end to snatch the award from Sridevi.....

  • @ajishb03 cant they award leading actor and actress in the same movie. i am not sure of their policies.

  • It's nice. But its too melodramatic, esp. Kamal's acting, all that falling down so many times. Sridevi looks gorgeous as always. Watched it hoping for something spectacular, but was disappointed by the la ck of subtlety. Sorry, only a personal opinion.

  • @sayhitoshas i think during those years all movies were too dramatic. nothing was subtle r cool. dont you agree ? i think people loved the drama. changing times.

  • @killintymm That's quite true, with the rare exception of say a Hrishikesh Mukherjee (Abhimaan!), or earlier on, Bimal Roy and Guru Dutt. It would be interesting to see how cinema will be if it merges the emotional strength of that era with the subtle portrayal of the modern era.

  • surmaye ankhiyun mein...

  • This is the first time i have seen this scene in Hindi..NICE!! Hindi speakers might want to compare with the differences in the Tamil version like how i did. Thanks for the post! :)

  • ive no guts to watch this scene...!!

  • @prasanth10184 scared to cry ? amazing scene, isnt it ?

  • my fav scene , i watched this movie no. of times !

  • oo my god , oo my god , oo my god...

  • This movie was absolutely brilliant...I cried so much when I watched it a good feew years back. Brilliant acting by both of them. this scene just made me cry again...so SAD!!!

  • @MsPrem5

    That' why it is SADma

  • True LOL

  • How do you rate Kamal's performance in this movie. I would consider this the best acting ever in the Indian cinema. I had watched Kamal earlier in the North South Love story and was just brilliant, Rathi included but this scene just took my breath away.

  • hey buddy, thanx a lot for adding this scene..

My wife likes it very much..

    Thanks a lot..

  • kamal haasan is a treasure of Indian cinema

  • This scene is really good , no doubt but one wonders why an acrobatic and young person like him can not jump on the train and come face to face to sridevi and her parents , but it is a movie afterall, a hero can do so many things but can not small things sometimes

  • did you not see?that his leg is broken and he is injured all over?

  • @loveallfearnone ..he knows he does not have ticket to travel and moreover his injured legs wouldn't allow him to bard the train easily..the director has taken care of all that..nice melodrama

  • What? i have never seen Kamal's movies and wonder how could i have missed an actor of this caliber. Hindi films did not even give him his due and hope he comes back to hindi to enthrall us with his superb performances.

BTW what was his other movies in hindi that are good.

  • Ek Duje Keliye

  • can anyone pleeeeeeeeeeez upload the full movie !!!!!!!!!!!! that would be so kind :) :) I cant find the dvd nowhere

  • Hi Primavera, If you go to Bigflix or planet M, you will get that video cd.

  • this is why kamal hassan is the greatest indian actor

  • It is actors like Kamal Hasan who make language irrelevant. Whatever your mother tongue it doesn't matter you can watch the tamil version 'Moondram Pirai' the climax is awesome. The hindi version came very close and was exceptional too. Kamal and Sridevi combo rock.

  • one of the most beautiful piece of indian cinema ..kamal hassan is one of the best actors we have..i wish he could continue being a part of such meaningful cinema..god bless

  • emotional scene , movie . all acted wel .

  • forget your six packs , great dancing ability, tall dark handsome etc , the ideal starson category . the ideal lady puller. HERE was or still is an actor with perfectly normal Indian looks , but by god what a guy and what talents he preserves within. i wished he carried on doing more hindi movies.. KAMAL HASSAN ZINDABAD

  • Thank you yar for uploading this video, i think this scene is a trade mark in kamal hasan career, he is one of the greatest actor of all time.

  • heart wrenching!

  • happy birthday living legend Dr.Kamal Haasan ji

  • dr.??

  • Kamal Hassan is GREAT.... true legend!!!!

  • I always chose to not see this movie when aired. It ll 100% make me cry. I just paused this video midway through :) Too much to take!

Genius of an acting, music, direction. Balu Mahendra should get back to making such kind of movies.

  • yep, sure he's the best in the buissness

  • Sadma ka ye last seen bahot hi accha hai....

  • Kamal Haasan & Naseeruddin Shah are the best actors in the history of Indian cinema

  • and Om Puri too :D

  • That was an amazing scene!

  • Is there a brailliant actor in India than Kamal. an emphatic NO.

  • Fact is Love means Lost very easy everything. Great Message in this scene.

  • "Kamal hassan" A legend for me.One and only.

  • Illayaraja and kamal Rocks...

  • This scene made me cry my eyes out! :( brilliant performance by Sri and Kamal!

  • Watch out the tamil version 'Moondram Pirai Climax".. its 100% by the actor... especialy at 7:23 when he hits the pillar... he did it jst really.. but hindi version u can see him expecting the hit.

  • I don't agree. Kamal's expression when he is just about to hit the pillar is what you feel when suddenly something comes into your line of vision and you are probably about to hit it. Just perfect. Another highlight in this entire scene!

  • No Bollywood film maker can make this movie absolutely

no to those bollywood nasty directors

  • @appledoes Bollywood today is a great piece of shit!

  • Amitabh and Naseer are my fav actors but this one scene .... this one scene alone puts Kamal Hassan ahead of them. You really have to watch the whole movie to understand the true dynamics of this climax scene. Absolute masterclass in acting.

  • And watch the tamil version also ;)

for my part i'm gonna buy this version as soon as possible

  • Greatest actor ever! Period!

  • wow, wow, wow

I remember, I watched the movie @ mid 80: doordarshan. I forgot its name.

Superb story, gr8 acting. and very great direction

  • sadma

  • Because of Kamal's character, people do not give dur credit to Sridevi's superb acting, she did a great acting job in the movie

  • kamal hassan gr8 actor this movie is a modern masterpiece sridevi n kamal hassan gave more thn thr 1000%

  • I think Kamal kill himself to perform. he is awesome and he loook like another person in every movie.

  • ive never watched this movie but do knw da story...cant believe how many tears this scene made me shed. cant imagine how many there would have been if i saw the lot.

  • Sad scenes of altered memories

  • It was free night in our hostel ( a night without study hours ) when this movie was aired on DD as usual we were in mess watching the only piece of enatrtainement..and as usual it was time pass but not this last ten minutes ..i never ever imagined that those ten minutes would leave a permanent scar on my heart ... i think that whole night i could hardly sleep ..I wish that day was not a free night at alllllllllllllllllllll..................

  • no doubt he is no less than a oscor winner ...no doubt this movie is no less either.. but at times this man kamal acats a bit extrs ..that he should control... yet i will tell you today no one in india stands a challenger to him

  • Sridevi took whole movie to he calibre and Kamal Hasan took most of credit just because of these last 10 min...awesome is a small word..

  • Perhaps the Climax of the Century in Indian Movies.

  • They should remake the moonram pirai again in Tamil..with an added scene after the climax... where somehow, sridevi's character realises what all he had done for her.

  • Life doesn't always consist of happy endings. This movie reflects the intricacies of life. I am sure everyone would have preferred a happy end, but dont you think the entire movie would be spoiled if they altered the climax? The novelty lies in the ending:)

  • exactly. any other movie and u wud hav the hero running to latch the hand of the heroine on the moving train, who suddenly wud remember all their past romantic interactions. this is wht we need. novelty as u put it so aptly.

  • @romayousaf

can you tell me why she didint aknowledge him in the end?

  • @THUGSTERZZZ : after d accident, she goes into coma,..bt whn she regains her conciousness, she is unable to recollect anything (amnesia). So in d end, when she's cured and she fully regains her memory, d entire tym she spent wid somu (kamal hassan) is blacked out.....she jus takes him 2 b sm lunatic beggar....n dats wat d sad part is.....

  • @roma:This story is nothing but the true life story of the Director of the movie Balu mahendra.

Sridevi character is nothing but the shobha ,the actress who committed sucicide.

He described his heart ache as below"Suddenly a Beautiful thing comes to matured man life.It brings him all the joy and sense of purpose only to leave without any reason Only Heart aches are the remains of that relationship"

  • great performance by kamal haasan but credit also goes to ilaiyaraja for background music

  • omg heartwrenching .......... amazing story.....atleast reshmi had an excuse of getting cured of her amesia........but how can people behave like amnesiacs????????? i had pampered my girl like silly.......and today she behaves like a stranger when she sees me.........why? oh why..........
