  • Thanks for this. Hey if I'm shooting the street in B/W, is is more preferable to switch setting to B/W in the camera and shoot or do the B/W during the post-processing?

  • @hgafbf hmm, I'd say that it would be better during post-processing because you have more colors and more range when dealing with the photos.

  • what is a good iso to shoot with in general?

  • @scb123465 200-800 should be good. You could go more depending on how well your DSLR handles the noise.

  • @mokadesigns Ok. thank you.

  • oooh that rhymes! XD

  • LOL @ this kid. All these terms. You can tell it's mad beginner. Moving onto the next reviewww.

  • @PhotoPhoenix lol, you won't be missed "kid."

  • Good Job!

  • Dude! Thanks for the help. You are easy to listen to, you don’t fumble, shudder or use words we noobs don’t understand.

  • Not Native American red? Lol made my 10 seconds.

  • wallpaper???

  • thanks you very much, that was very helpful. Mark (Australia)

  • Is there a way to save it in a way that it will replace the original picture instead of having to go back and delete the original?

  • @pakiprincess uhm, if you are using RAW, changes should be saved onto the original file. If you are using JPEG, then I honestly don't know :/

  • Question: what if you are possibly thinking of printing them? what should the PPI be?

  • @aforeverofsummer The professional print standard is 300ppi. Keep in mind that when you increase your PPI, your end result may become smaller. I'd stay in the 250-300 range.

  • I don't know much about photoshop/lightroom yet, but I'm starting to research. Is photoshop much better than lightroom?

  • @KungFuBobby Honestly depends on what you are trying to do.

  • DUDE the first thing I realize when I see your desktop is... well... is your resolution above 1920*1080??

  • @KayFrankThomas Nope lol. It's 1920 x 1080

  • keep the vids.coming man!..great tutorial

  • Does Lightroom work even if your camera shoots in JPEG. I use a canon 500D and I'm not sure which file it shoots in.

  • @AJWASERE Yes, Lightroom can be used with JPEG images.

  • thanks for a fukcing great tut<3 Faved as fuck

  • I'm trying to decide if I want to get Lightroom or Photoshop and this video really helped, so thank you! Will you be uploading any more tutorials for Lightroom in the future? I would definitely watch them!!!

  • really cool this video

  • Hi, I subscribed at your video. My question is I am using Lightroom 3, how do you edit a bunch of photo at the same time for example 10 or 20 photos they are almost at the same level of darkness or light I want to edit them at once to save time.

    Thanks

  • @300Yas Click on the picture thumbnail of the edit you want to use. Go to develop settings > copy settings. Than select the multiple photos you want to edit and then right click >develop settings > paste settings.

  • where do you get so many car photos?

  • Great video, buddy! Don't listen to all these photog hipsters who swear they know more than everyone else.

  • @DADDYROBEE1 Thanks! I am glad you enjoyed it!

  • Thumbs up if you came here because of the nice looking BMW picture!

  • not "Native American" red... but he was a litte bit red.

  • @veyronman lol, now that I look back at it, that was a really harsh comment haha

  • Really appreciate your video. It's people like you who care to share your knowledge and pass it on to others. It helps a lot dude, cheers!

  • you are awesome man. great instruction, and thank you for posting.

  • So let me get this straight, you shoot in RAW and then lightroom it and save it as a JPEG ? Cant you edit the RAW file and then save as RAW or did you save as JPEG for a reason ? What way do I need to do it in order to take the files to a photo developing shop after I edit them ? What way gets the best result because I dont need the pictures for internet use, I just make hard physical copies to keep in albums ? Is this way better than shooting in JPEG and using other programs like photoshop ?

  • @SuperMangn 1. I convert them to JPEG because file sizes are smaller and I can upload them to flickr easier. When you edit raw files, they automatically save themselves. Whenever you open up LR, you can see the changes that you made your last session.

    2. As for using them to make hard copies, I could not honestly give you a right answer, since I have never done it. You can google that question and I am sure you could find your answer.

  • @SuperMangn I like this way better as compared to straight JPEG importing because RAW files have more data and can be manipulated more.

  • Lol...you shot your BMW at ISO 800 f/4.5 and 1/400 sec,you could have done a lot better with you use of your "stops". your restricting your light with 1/400 and f/4.5, but have increased the sensitivity of light with ISO 800. So from this i can gather you don't know how to use your camera! You must be trying to teach yourself. I would have shot that at iso 200, f/2.8 , 1/30-250 sec to maximize the clarity of the image. So why are you trying to tell people how to use lightroom?

  • @crewdawg63 For starters, it is not my BMW; it's my neighbors. Second, I was using a kit lens so f/2.8 was impossible. Not to mention kit lenses suck in general, so it gets slow shutter speeds and not a lot of light. If I had a f/2.8, my ISO could have been a lot lower because I would have had a decent shutter speed. Also, I was learning photography myself at the time of posting this video (practically a year ago), so obviously I wasn't that informed myself.

  • @crewdawg63 I am simply trying to help people out here. I don't see why people on YouTube find it necessary to make stupid comments to flaunt their knowledge of photography. If it wasn't useful to you, then move on. Scroll down the comments yourself, there are a bunch of people who found this video informative and that actually liked it.

  • Great video

  • thanks for making this video. I'm familiar with photoshop but new to lightroom, all I needed was a quick presentation and that's what you delivered. cheers

  • @h0b0ch1c Glad you liked it ;)

  • good video

  • I'm sure you've figured this out already, but, you can view your pics before and after in LR3. To the left of your screen near the bottom you will see a box within a box and beside that a divided box with 2 y's. This will give you different before and after options. You can return to the picture you are editing by clicking on the first box again.

  • I bought a fucking Canon SX30 IS with x35 Zoom, but it doesn't fucking have RAAAW :''''(((((((

  • @Toca91 HAHAH

  • That was extremely helpful thank you so much!

  • Thanks. Good video.

  • This video is pretty bad, there's many errors. I'm not sure if you understand what fill light is exactly but you didn't explain it well at all. It's not just the same as brightness, it's basically illumination or brightening for areas that are shadowed or very dark.

Your section on selective coloring completely misses the best features, as for the red in the skin tone of your example, obviously you don't understand the adjustment brush tool which could easily knock out that unwanted color.

  • @jackcooper92 But many of what you have described would not be "basic editing," now would it? And yes, I agree, I did not fully understand the meaning of fill light when I first made this tutorial.

  • @mokadesigns Well the most basic parts of editing would be cropping... But your video didn't show any of that. And I probably wouldn't teach beginners in a basics tutorial that they should be shooting in Raw. Large Jpeg files are ideal for the majority of users, and even a lot of professionals. Raw isn't really needed for someone who is only just finding out about a program called lightroom.

There's a guy called Terry White who does some awesome videos on Lightroom, check him out.

  • @jackcooper92 okay thanks.

  • I just downloaded LR3 and I'm getting to know how to use it, but this video really helped a lot so thank you! I added your flickr and love your photo's! :)

  • where can i get that wallpaper?????

can u upload on web and give me a link pls????

  • @5hook4r3 Sorry dude. I don't have it, nor can I find it anymore.

  • @5hook4r3 Sorry dude. I don't have it, nor can I find it anymore.

  • @5hook4r3 Sorry dude. I don't have it, nor can I find it anymore.

  • Currently im considering purchasing L3 and photoshop CS5. Frankly im still a little leary about adding L3 to my workflow. Bridge seems to be able to do all of this.

  • Do you have to import the photos raw?

  • @LadyHealthChat Yes. JPEG works also, but not as well.

  • whats the different between adobe lightroom 3 and photoshop lightroom 3? cause the first one is much cheaper

  • @DaWn0FTheDead They are the same thing... perhaps you are looking at the wrong item

  • Thanks...

  • Nice Vid. What software do you use to record your video though =O ???

  • @TokyoGrafiten Camtasia Studio

  • cool, thanks...

  • what about defocusing the background? is it possible as i came across some pictures that have blurred backgroundss :o

  • @vts20101 You can do DOF in photoshop, but it won't look nice (and well, fake). You can't make bokeh with photoshop, so DOF in photoshop is a total fail.

  • Would I be right saying you could pretty much do everything in this vid with Photoshop?

  • @rizzledon Not with the ease and precision of Lightroom.

  • iso 800 :/

  • Wow at last I have come across someone who explains the use of Light rooms with CLARITY...thank you so much for sharing and for not being selfish with what you know...Blessings...

  • I have a ton of old photographs in JPG format. Could I still edit those with this program?

  • @DoctarWiam

    yes, you can.

  • The DOF could be fixed with the adjustment brush, lightroom is more than just those sliders... pick the adjustment brush choose Clarity, drop down clarity to zero and contrast to zero and paint where you wanted the DOF more... simple.

  • well done!

  • oh nvm haha you say its a bmw

  • is that a tiberon?

  • very good

  • I feel bad when you say lots of DSLR owner dont use or the full potential that the cameras have. You are right because I got one too and im one of them too! hehehe, so can you make a vid on how to use our DSLR to the max. thanks and i really like the way you explain everything here! your Good!

  • @ramcasty In my opinion, using Lightroom efficiently is the best way to using your DSLR to the max.

    P.S. PM sent ;D

  • I have a question. How do I make a photo black and white, but have certain colors show (i.e. the shirt, or a chain)?

  • @gentsoul00 This should do the job. When developing a photo in Lightroom, go the color tab (located under HSL/Color/B&W, which is located on the right). Click on color and you will see three sliders: hue, saturation, and luminance. Pick the colors that you don't want and drag the saturation over to -100, while keeping the colors that you do want.

Hope this helps! Thanks for watching!

  • @mokadesigns Thank you! I'll give it a try when I get home from work! Semper Fi!

  • @gentsoul00 Good luck!

  • great video

  • thank you!

  • awesome!! Thanks!!

  • Great video. Very helpful. Thanks!

  • I have a silly question... in the Brush effect mode (or any Develop mode), how do I go "Back" or "Forward" if I made a mistake, I could not find a buttton or arrow that I could click on like htey usually exist in other programs. Thank you.

  • @HoldNoMore good question. I just use "ctrl + z" which is basically the shortcut key for edit > undo.

  • @mokadesigns Thank you for taking the time to answer my question. Though I am still on a quest... to find out how I can also go "forward" if I changed my mind after going "Back" and want to move forward, I am sure there is some kind of command for that.

  • @HoldNoMore lmao. "ctrl + Y" should be the shortcut for "re-do".

  • great tut; but if you select the pic and click cmd+' you can make a virtual copy to adjust. i like this!

  • i agree, i just bought a slr. before i shoot with jpeg but now i shoot raw, now my photos are a lot better.

  • @jh3835 Great!

  • "It does sort of annoy me" lol

  • thx man!

    added u on msn!

  • very simple and straightforward. thx very much from a beginner

  • Can the Adobe Lr run on low RAM?

  • @HeavenXxX Are you referring to the CPU usage? If so, I have never really ventured into that. In general, Lightroom runs pretty smooth for me, even if I have numerous other applications on.

  • @mokadesigns Yeah CPU usage.... thannks... sory I did not ask the question more details...

  • I found this video to be extremely helpful and overall enlightening. I am getting my second DSLR within the next month or so but I'm having trouble choosing between The Canon Rebel T2i and Nikon D90. Respectively, they are both amazing cameras overall, and I know that either way I will extremely satisfied. However, I have gathered some research and come to the conclusion that Rebel T2i = Video D90 = Photo what are your thoughts?

  • @spikedupleo Well, T2i is great because it has video. However, I have done statistical comparisons of both the D90 and the T2i (I was once interested in them myself) and have gotten feedback from current user, and have come to the conclusion that the phototaking capabilities of the D90 are far more superior to the T2i.

    Basically:

    D90 is better for photography

T2i is not as good, but has video.

    The choice is yours...

  • @mokadesigns Thank you for your reply. I couldn't agree more, the only thing that was holding me back was the little extra that I would have to pay for the D90, but in the end it's worth it. Thanks again!

Also, I will more than likely be referring back to you for help with either LR3 or the D90. Keep up the good work!

  • @spikedupleo Thank you and good luck!!!

  • Thanks for the clear tutorial. I was considering purchasing Lightroom. Normally I use Camera Raw in CS5, but this looks like it would be a nice complement, and somewhat easier to do more.

  • Thanks man. I have never left a comment on YouTube before but your video helped a lot that I had to post it. I've had the t2i for over a month now and now that I have the camera basics down, I can start messing with post processing. This video summed up what I needed to know. Thanks again.

  • @VegettoWBK Great! Glad to know that I could help!

  • Nice video. I look forward to checking out some other ones. How long have you been into photography? Also, you said you don't have a good lens yet, what type of lens do you have?

    Cheers!

  • @rpramer1 I had the kit when I shot the picture in the tutorial. Now, I have a Pentax-DA 16-50mm f/2.8 ED AL and a Pentax SMC-PA 50mm f/1.4. I plan on selling my lenses and the body soon though, on my way to switching over to either Nikon or Canon. Pentax is a great brand and all, but it is hard to find compatible stuff for the K-mount body.

  • just wanted to say thanks for uploading this quick and simple tutorial. iam new to light room and this basically solved my BIG PROBLEM. Great video :)

  • yeah dude you state people who buy these cameras have basically no clue what they're doing with them, i have to say there's a quite a few errors in the picture you've taken here, so please don't hate on others when you have fallen in the same category my friend

  • @atyl1972 When did I state that I knew everything about photography and that what I am doing is right?

I don't get you people, I am trying help others out by setting them on the right path to becoming a better photographer, and all people care about is talking smack. I am not a professional, nor do I consider myself "good," so stop focusing on the small stuff and start understanding the big picture.

  • @handymanforever69 Yessir :D

  • people who own DSLR's and don't use them at their full potential annoy you... well you have a crap stock lens so you are what you hate :D

  • @pdlpictures That's cute and all, but for that specific image, my kit lens would have worked fine. How are you so sure that I don't have other lenses?

  • @mokadesigns well by now you probably have that f/1.4 lens

  • @pdlpictures And a PENTAX-DA 16-50mm f/2.8 ED AL. I am gonna sell everything soon and switch to Canon. Anyways, please no more smart ass comments. K? thanks.

  • @mokadesigns What Canon are you getting?

  • @pdlpictures I am hoping something new comes out soon, otherwise I'm just gonna get a 550D/T2i. I want a Canon because lens compatibility is far more superior than Nikon.

  • @mokadesigns Well the t3i is coming out. Its basically the same as a t2i but it has an articulated screen, so i recommend the t2i since its cheaper. That's what I'm getting soon. After i sell all my possessions of course. Ahh the sacrifices I make. I hope you enjoy exchanging messages with a total stranger. Especially a smart ass like me. :D

  • @pdlpictures Yeah, I'm not really interested in the T3i either.

  • thanks dude for sharing your talent

  • Thanks!!!!

  • thanks man

  • This is a great help as a newbie to photography & have lightroom 3

    Thanks

    Jordan

  • Thank you! I just got lightroom and this helped alot!

  • omg i love u man :D

best video that i've seen about lightroom!

i am a neewbie in lightroom and you helped me alot

i subbed and i hope to see more videos from you :D

  • hey dude nice video :D

could you share me the wallpaper?

  • @VisualSeven thank you!

    format67(dot)net/wallpack1/r8.png

  • @mokadesigns thanks again! / subbed hoping to see more from you.

  • @mokadesigns 404 not found

    please gimme ur wallpaper

  • @Uwmhunter96 I don't have it on my computer anymore. If the link doesn't work, then I apologize.

  • what inch is your monitor?

  • @subjectwork 23"

  • Moka, can you put up some practice pictures for us :D

  • @ThisHolographicLife I JUST finished cleaning off RAW files from my computer, sorry :( However, although lightroom is intended for RAW images, JPEG's work too. You can search for pictures on flickr or google for them. JPEG's won't work as well as RAW though.

  • Great tut, been using lightroom for a while!

  • Why would you choose this over 'vanilla' Photoshop?

  • @turnerguru What exactly is "'vanilla' Photoshop?"

  • @mokadesigns i.e. the regular copy of Photoshop.

  • @turnerguru oh, well lightroom has options and settings that are farther curved towards photography, rather than digital editing in general.

  • Great video moka. Sorry if i missed it in the video but what type of camera do you have?

  • @projectLock a Pentax K-x

  • im getting a panosonic lumix g2 :D im so glad you posted this im sure it will help me!

  • @XTvMXGrifter Great! I hope you will happy with your purchase!

  • Thanks soo much moka, I was getting a dslr for Christmas. i thought twice before getting a 7d , I'm getting a 60d because i really don't think I'll be taking that much photos compared to filming but because of this i might rethink of buying a 7d

  • @TBaaGG Glad I helped, but I recommend buying a 7d if you TRULY wanna use it to it's full potential. Although they are great camera's, some other/cheaper options can easily suffice, especially in the case of being your first DSLR.

  • @TBaaGG in addition, I would like to recommend this video to you: /watch?v=ET0idevzGRE

  • @mokadesigns yeah i saw it before! Idk, i had different opinions when i watched it back then.I think i might get the 7d after all, truly a mindfuck. Once again thanks a lot dude!

  • @TBaaGG Honestly, I would recommend the 550d(watch some of OperatorPerrys videos, that's what he uses) for learning the basics, experimenting, and such as a beginner. But, if you have the money and prior experience with DSLRs, get the 660d or 7d for the simple fact they're nicer and have better quality(JoeHands0me used a 7d for quite some time). But, even with a really nice camera...if you aren't, as Moka said, using it to it's full potential...it's worthless really. Just depends on you.

  • @xFATALxSH0TZ 550d is quite worthless for me, if i would think about using a camera for learning the basics and experimenting then I'd go for the 60d. i am not a rich fellow, BUT i do have enough money to buy a 7d , and i will probably use 7d how it's meant to be used a bit after i learn the basics, i don't feel like buying a 550d then being unsatisfied and end up selling it and buying a 7d...which is a loss of money.

  • @TBaaGG Yea, point. If the 660d or 7d can use lenses from the 80s and such, get it! I love playing with retro looks from lenses :P

  • @Infinity3Studios thank you sir :D
