The best actress ever. I never felt an actor so compelling in their role that I stopped in the middle of the movie to check up their name, which was what I did for Mo'nique. You could tell she felt and became Mary. And then you start to sympathize and pity her. Like what she said, Mary didn't know what she was doing. The impact and severity of abuse on the child is not going to set in until years later when she is able to detach herself to see from a third person's point of view.

I saw Hurt Locker and Precious on the weekend....how Hurt won the Oscar I can only wonder. Hurt didn't do anything for me as a viewer...however, Precious had me raise my eyebrows, giggle, laugh out loud, tear up and outright cry (my guy too had tears in his eyes, as ONLY a single father could understand Clarice's misfortunes)...this was an emotional rollercoaster ride, this is the ONE that should've WON!! Good stuff Monique, keep going girl!!

I've seen Hurt Locker, Precious, District 9, Up, Inglorious Basterds and Avatar, and Hurt Locker was the only one that should not have won. Everything else would have been fine by me. Hell, as far as I'm concerned, HL should not have even been nominated.

I agree completely. They deserve every award possible for this film. It was very difficult to watch but the way the actors and the directors captured such lack of humanity was unbelievable. This movie was painful to watch indeed. The ending was a optimistic. Go Precious Go!

I finished reading the book "Push". Talk about the character "Mary" being insane! The movie didn't go as close to what horrible things she did to Precious. However, Lee Daniels did touch on other basis of the book with his own vision. I wasn't disappointed at all by the book or movie.

Sorry, but I saw her on Oprah as they talked about the movie and Oprah mentioned how brave she was to be on camera in her natural state. Makeup is an amazing thing. ie, I'm sure everyone has seen the without make up shots floating around of some of the "famous" out there. :P NO one is perfect and I'd have to say our standard definition of beauty today is pretty distorted.
