I think the problem between Johnny and Joan was that they were so much alike. Johnny was a controller and Joan as well. Mix the two personalities together and it's going to explode. I just wish she hadn't made any comments about Johnny that day. It was a day to remember Ed McMahon and no to open old wounds.
You've really got to hand it to Doc and Ed. They must have been real troupers to put up with Carson's antics and his off stage personality.
