  • prior to the 60s, health care was less than 5% of GDP, it was entirely private, and no one was dying in the streets or homeless bc they couldnt afford care. Since the implementation of Medicare/Medicaid, health care is 17% of GDP, half public funded and people are going bankrupt and not able to afford care. Govt intervention into health care has only made care more expensive for everyone.

  • conservatives here in the usa are warped on this issue.

  • So called competiton will cost more not less.

Michael Cannon is a discredited schill.

  • IS it so hard to accept a free health sysyem? People die becouse they are not insured like a car, and people try to fraud the companies. Free healthcare will save lifes and stop frauding. But Americans find this "Communistic"

  • @Farvai0 America is a commune of obese smokers. The primary reason our HC is so expensive is because Americans are the most unhealthy people on the planet, in history. What's your point?

  • @thereinliestherib My point is that America is so unhealthy, then why not get free healthcare? Increase the taxes. Intruduce an Welfare state. They want to be Capitalistic, but that is not so good when that kills.

  • @Farvai0 American healthcare sucks because we are so unhealthy, not the other way around.

  • @Farvai0 NO ONE in the US dies because they are denied care. Even illegals get health care here.

  • @whothaplaya really say that to the 40,000 Americans last year who died because they could not afford medical treatment. The system is wrong, the public system should be for all paid by income taxes

  • These two dopey broads are another example of why we need to repeal the 19th Amendment...and the 16th & 17th Amendments should be repealed as well!

  • @vince33x I want to lick the dirty blonde haired broad's asshole and wouldnt care if she cut a couple of farts. Does that make me a weirdo?

  • @ioport I think you're quite mad!

  • If the health care problem is one of cost then we need people to spend their *own* money on their health, not have an insurance company pay. Why? Because people are more careful when they spend their own money. Healthcare prices would be kept in check by the customers like it is with cars, computers.. Also, loosening up on regulations would reduce cost.

If the problem is one of quality then we need to spend more money on research, cleaning agents, friendly employees, more regulations...

  • These fuckers are dumb as .. Look America spends 17% of their GDP with a unemploymentrate of 20%. That's 2,16 trillion $. We spend 8% of our GDP everyone here has a healthcare insurance. BUT.. our unemploymentrate is only 5%. Its free for the one who can't afford one. Now let's calculate. (20/5)*(8/17)*2,16 trillion $ = somewhere 4,5 trillion $. I believe this is your new healthcare bill if you would make a copy of our most efficient healthcare system in the world that insures everyone.

  • America needs change in health, it needs the free market to operate in health as it operates in other sectors.

This means ending (as well as govt interventions that generally reduce wealth) the healthcare subsidies of Medicaid that allow higher prices.

And end the taxes that increase overhead costs.

BTW be wary of figures of increasing costs not adjusted for 2008/10 deflation/2010-201X inflation. Seriously, that led to we British people being told that private trains were more expensive.

  • Barbceque we lose 50,000 Americans a year due to our pathetic American healthcare system... What I never understood is how do we pay for a loseing war and help sick in other countries but leave our American people suck?. We are a pathetic pitiful system that needs a turn around desperately.. We need a change big time!.

  • The list below is of those who accepted payouts to go against the public option:

  • Max Baucus: 1,991,965 dollars

    Blanche Lincoln: 1,104,186 dollars

    Kent Conrad: 951,328 dollars

    Bill Nelson: 608,559 dollars

    Tom Carper: 572,307 dollars

  • Sec. 401.59B, Pg. 167, Lines 18-23 - ANY individual who does not have acceptable care,

according to government, will be taxed 2.5% of income.

  • why the americans pay their tax?

  • The prejudice toward action in public affairs is a constant...and a constant disappointment.

  • soooo nationalized healthcare where the CEO and his greed are cut out of the equation

  • huge and expanded profits for the health insurance companies and the drug companies while continuing this pay-or-die system that has plagued this country for decades, a system that takes 20,000 lives a year, according to the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences. Thats about fifty to sixty people who die every day. OR nationalized healthcare where the CEO and his greed are cut out of the equation.

  • soooo nationalized healthcare where the CEO and his greed are cut out of the equation or decisions made by rich greedy CEO's who continue to do nothing to help the americans that have lost their jobs due to rich greedy CEO's

  • Ladies taking over on these 2 faggots..

  • I work full time and my job just stop paying for my health care because it cost to much. But I can keep it if I can pay the cost. Its to much, I need health care plan I can afford. Why all the republicans trying to to kill the reform? can anyone tell me why? By the why, obama is not a soclist, he's just trying to help us out!

  • I work full time & then some...but taking my money to pay for your healthcare is called redistribution of wealth, SOCIALISM no matter how you slice it. Reform does not meat dismantle...that is what is happening here!

  • I urge all patriotic Brits to email the Republican National Committee to tell them excatly how angry MILLIONS of Brits are with their ignorant poisonous LIES about our National Health Service.

  • The best check for an entity is a competing entity, not the gov't. The gov't can not compete - it will subsidize any losses it has. The gov't need to step back and actually let the health insurance providers compete.

The focus of insurance is coverage for catastrophic events. We should not have copays for doctors visits and prescriptions. The individually purchased HSA plan is the best option available, by far.

  • Obamacare is like the tooth fairy; however, instead of trading a tooth for a coin, it trades your soul for an entitlement.

Trading the LIBERTY OF ALL AMERICANS is certainly not worth any # of free visits to a doctor.

If you're intellectually honest and research this, you will find that MEDICAL RATIONING, and INVASION OF PRIVACY are critical items.

Are you an American Patriot? Heres a litmus test; Choose either LIBERTY FOR ALL, or this ENTITLEMENT FOR FOOLS.

    Also, search 'eugenics'

  • A common myth which exists in the United States is that we do not already ration our health care. The most obvious way in which we ration health care is between those who have insurance versus those who do not have insurance. Even for those who do not have insurance and seek medical attention in emergency rooms, they are more likely to put off seeking medical attention until the problem has become severe and less likely to receive follow-up care.

  • you are wrong, we have more uninsured people going to the er with stupid shit then ever. its sickning. if health care is being rationed between those who have insurance and those who dont, then that applies to anything money can buy in every country. canadian medical personel suggest going private and paying if you need help now. that is rationing, the haves and the have nots. people with money in canada go to the USA. people without money wait and die.

  • They don't tell you that people are going into Canada when their own private insurance denied their coverage... I was punished for having a pre-existing condition (transplant) for one year and depended on samples from the hospital for my meds missing days in between.... I was lucky I didn't have a slow rejection in that time so don't tell me what we got now doesn't have to be changed...

  • so you went to canada and they did what for you?????? nobody is saying that our healthcare system needs to be fixed, however not by the government taking over. if you have faith in the government then thats your problem.

  • I never said I went, but I am glad you agree the status quo isn't working. But a for profit type of service isn't going to make money covering me......

  • a not for profit type of service wont help you either

  • Then I must stand in front of the private death panel....

  • i think we will all stand in front of the death panel sir.

  • No system is perfect. However, if you are looking for perfection don't count on gov't. It will not live up to any claim of "cost reduction" and "insuring everyone". They quietly admit that, even 10 years later, 17 Million would still be uninsured. Perhaps that will necessitate "Single Payer".

Single Payer is what they really want, Barney Frank said the best way to SP is thru the "Public Option" (check out his video admission).

You choose: Constitutional RIGHTS or Obamacare.

  • Rationing is happening now with private health care, they have denied claims with loopholes and guess who foots the bill? It's simply not working well and has to change.... If you have a pre-existing condition you are a money loser for them -- one year waiting periods...

  • Healthcare NOW this is america people not some 3rd world african country! we need to look out for one another!

the reporter.. Micheal michael back me up micheal! MICHEAL!!!!!

  • Economies of scale: the bigger something is, the less expensive it is to run. This is simple economics, the justification for 99% of the mergers in this country (beyond the fact that it makes a lot of money for the heads of the company), and I can't believe people are listening to this BS without going, "Um, you're an idiot. Go back to high school economics class and pay attention this time."

  • i smell shenanigans from the guy on the far left .........

  • The host? True! What that Michael Cannon guy is trying to say, is that it's not 'reform' at all. Bringing "affordable" (could mean anything) healthcare to the uninsured, is not reform, it's just making it *compulsory* to be insured. Big distinction!

  • True ..... but it's a start ... and it can lead to a better plan .... lets at least control the insurance giants and then take it from there.... a public option will at least get people insured at a decent rate and people with pre existing conditions wont be left out in the cold ......

  • Government healthcare is a better system of worked properly, unlike the US. Government doesn't have stockholders to keep happy, and astronomical advertising costs, which is passed on to the end-user.

If an insured man gets sick, is he paying for all his treatment himself, or are the many chipping in with their insurance premia?

  • Most of the uninsured 46 million or so either qualify for Medicaid (but they didn't apply), are illegally in US, are young and healthy or rich and don't need money.

Another category is those between 2 jobs.

People who are actually in need of help (below 50K/yr) and/or without a job for a while are only 6 million.

Why do we need more bureaucracy? Why not just pay their catastrophic health spending? This wouldn't add more bureaucrats and an expansion of government, i.e. it's un-progressive.

  • This is NOT true..... I"m so tired of hearing about illegal aliens being thrown in as the uninsured in America.... that is TOTAL BS ... do you honestly think the government does not know the difference between a fake social security number and a real one ? these stats are FROM VALID social security numbers!!! so lets just put that to rest right now!!! 50 Million Americans have NO HEALTH CARE and that number has risen from the bad economy and all the layoffs....

  • Do you think Obama's Plan cost nothing?

You still have to buy the plan it isn't free and your taxes will also rise. His plan is est cost of 1.6 trillion and still would leave 16 mill w/o healthcare. We know from experience Gov. Programs usually cost double. Also he want to fine you if you don't purchase a plan. There is other less costly ways yet this administration won't look at them. One is a voucher program and a health savings its est cost to taxpayers is only 25 mil.

  • No one wants to take responsibility for the high cost of healthcost. The people the Doctor the Hospital and Government regulation that allows all to abuse it. Corporate manage Gov. Regulated does not work. Neither does full Gov. medicare waste billions every year. The KEY is to put healthcare into the hand of the individual.

  • How the fuck does the individual handle there own health care... you act like people just have millions in the bank to cover the ridiculous costs if they get sick .... gimme a fucking break ... We need to do what England has done, what Canada has done, what Eastern Europe has done..... it works and the people are happy.....

  • Western Europe.... "typo"

  • WE WANT SINGLE-PAYER!/ From the corporate players/ Make them return our riches/ Cuz the ReFlubLieRant Party/ Is getting too fat, less hearty Like spendthrift, catty bitches/ Billions, stolen from us/ Violated our public trust/ So arrest them & seize their assets/ Get all the money back/ To workers' , political hacks/ Or embrace your slow, costly death!
  • These people drive their cars on publicly funded roads and rely on publicly funded police and military protection.

They seem to have no problem with publicly funded projects that help them.

But ask them to help the sick or the poor and suddenly public funding is a bad thing.

  • that is the most uneducated thing I have heard

  • We could practice the use of MSAs.

  • Ok just dont say it will not work!! Come up with some ideas that will help to drive down cost. I know you free market guys are all about driving down costs. Maybe we can outsource our health insurance industry to China.

  • Yeah, great! Lets just do the bad idea cause we don't have any good ones. Are they even listening to other ideas?

  • Why would the insurance industry and conservatives be afraid of competition from a two option system if it was a voluntary system and they did not have pay extra tax and they could keep their private system? Win Win!!!

  • The only way to make most people happy (you cant make everyone happy) is to have a public option. Most people are not looking for a free lunch but if we had a public and private system we will have competition for both to be cheaper a better. The public option can not be free to people with jobs but it will be less then the private system with its high overhead of CEO pay, shear holder payouts, administrative costs, advertisement, political contributions and so on

  • Could we have a civil discussion, please? Thanks.

  • this is a horrible show, interruption all the time and who is the host ??

  • oh wow shes got SUCH an anoying voice

  • It always amazes me how only the people from CATO make any kind of sense while when you hear the others debating the CATO guys and you think "what did he/she just say?"

  • insurance is a personal choice, why should you be forced to buy insurance if you don't want it? More govt BS is going to skyrocket costs more.

46M uninsured? Probably 15M of those are illegals.

  • Actually it's more like 20 million illegals.

  • Dude I"m so sick of hearing that excuse.... it's not illegals that don't have the health care... it's AMERICANS WITH VALID SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBERS..... so please ... take that crock of shit somewhere else.... and actually right now with all the layoffs in our country it's more like 60 million uninsured ... and rising ...

  • That's not an excuse. That's real. Those statistics originated from the UN and when you look at the research they did you can see that they factored in the estimated population of the US, which includes illegal immigrants, instead of the known population of the US, which only counts legal residents. It was made to make the US look bad, so special interests could get more power.

  • It's very easy to track .... a valid social security number is in the system ... with technology THEY KNOW exactly which social security number is fake or not fake.... that whole thing is such BS and and excuse by republicans to smooth over how many Americans are uninsured.... I mean common .. YOU CANT FAKE out the government with a fake social number ... THEY KNOW...

  • Comment removed

  • You're not listening. It has nothing to do with social security numbers. The UN used the estimated, instead of the known, population of the US. The known is made up of legal residents and the estimated includes those who are here on work visas or illegal. You clearly don't know enough about the issue to make a valid arguement.

They know? The government can't even count the votes. And you want them to be in charge of healthcare. What sense does that make?

  • Dude stop acting like the government has not good programs.... I guess in that case NASA sucks right .... I guess your local fire department sucks... police force sucks... military sucks... you republicans are stuck in the 40's man ... Big business and capitalism has it's own evils... so wake up ... OH and stop with the immigration thing .... wont work anymore.... around 50 million VALID US citizens have no health care... and that number is rising with all the layoffs....

  • It's like talking to a wall. I did the research. I know the facts. You don't. Those stats are a fraud.

Now, the police and fire department are handled by local government. Not the feds.

The only reason why the military works is because it's force and that's all government is as well. As for NASA, the only reason why they work is because of their invicibility mentality.

As for the rest of the government programs, the dept. of edu., medicade, dept. of homeland security, etc., are all awful.

  • First my facts and your facts are different ... I didn't make up the number I studied it... second You have allot of excuses to why some government agencies work great.... look I understand your reason for not wanting total government take overs.... it's failed and always will... but government programs can and do work.... and hey even if we had national health care at a state level that would still be good progress....

  • I'm not making excuses. Local government and federal government are very different and are meant for different tasks. You also miss understand the difference between force and help. The military is force. Government is force. Government is good at providing force. That's why the military is good. However, government is not help. Whenever they try to help, ex. the dept. of edu., dept. of homeland security, social security, veterans affairs, FCC, etc. they end up making things worse.

  • Social security is not a bad thing dude.... millions of our senor citizens are surviving because of it.... if people would keep there hands out of the pot it will work fine.... thank god for medicare and social security ....

  • The thing is social security and medicare are government ponzi schemes. They are entitlement programs that can't pay for themselves and taxes have to be imposed just to keep them going. And as time goes on more and more taxes need to be imposed at an ever increasing rate. Sure old people may be living well now, but at the expense of the younger generations and when they get old they won't have any money left. Without money the system will fail and they will be shit out of luck.

  • They have been saying social security will fail since my dads generation.... he heard the same thing when he was a youngster....

  • SS fund will run out in 2012( operate in a deficit) 2039 if IOUs were payed back. You should see what some of the IOUs are for. Congress borrowed the money for their own agendas like a Cowgirl museum in Texas. also foodstamps and other Gov. Operating expences. Our money should never have been touched.

We would be better off if we could opt. out and invest those amounts in our own retirement savings. thepay off for anyone under 35 would be 3 times the amount SS offers.

  • Sounds like they knew what they were talking about back then too. It's a shame they didn't listen to those people now. The person below me (quizerry) put something similar to what my response would've been. Just read theirs.

  • @sniper: excellent comment!

  • @flunkyflights:

Why do you think that in absence of social security, people wouldn't save for retirement, work, or even have their active family members pay back the investment that the now non active members paid?

Do you really think that Social Security is good because the government has a tree that grows dollars in their back yard?

Without Social Security, you won't have people who never worked a day in their lives collect money taken by force from hard working citizens.

  • In this current system of capitalism it's set up for most of us to GET BYE barely.... meaning the cost of living sucks you dry of really getting a decent amount of money behind you .. you cannot save enough for retirement when the cost of living is so high... no reason a home should cost 400,000 dollars... My fathers first home in the early 60's was 16,000 dollars... WTF... he made over 500 dollars a month.. do the math .. he paid the house off in 5 years... IMPOSSIBLE now days..

  • @funky flights

The system we have is not really capitalist. We have the government controlling 40% of the economy and lots of regulation that favors big players.

You barely get BY bc that the government hinders private investment and regulation reduces supply of affordable goods and services.

Houses were so expensive because the govt (Fannie and Freddie) gave loans to those who can't afford to pay back, which increased the price artificially. Want prosperity? Support a free market!

  • It's no accident that it's that way these days. Slowly and surely people are working longer days and longer into the Autumn years. There is the myth of the 'self-made man' in America. No such thing!

  • So true bro ..... the system is keeping us down... health care is just another example ...people can work hard for years and lose there entire savings from getting sick ... it's outlandish ... the fact that these republicans are fighting health reform to benefit these greedy insurance companies makes me sick to my stomach.... they have no idea what there supporting.... THERE supporting greed and human suffering!! I hope for there sake they wake up ....

  • right on! nhc is the way to go the stats show it we are 37th in the world and france is number 1 all the countries with nhc are ahead of us! we need to change!

  • It's pretty depressing when you see republicans foaming at the mouth to support some mythical notion of 'freedom'. They really can't see the wood for the trees. And this is a fake new 'reform' anyway; insurance made *compulsory* is not reform. It's not even close to universal care, which is the sad great irony.

    Good vlogger - watch?v=XywqgB8U-XM

  • When your getting a loan from a bank for lets say 200,000 dollars on a home ... the interest at 5 percent will more than double the price of that home over 30 years .... this is where banks OWN this country .. were like little worker bee's that are stuck in this capitalistic system ... Social Security is a MUST in this country .... not one person I know has the funds to enjoy there retirement without it ... they simply couldn't save enough because of the cost of living ...

  • @funkyflights:

I checked out your page, and you don't seem an intelligent person, therefore I will just give you the synopsis.

    1) The value of money erodes over time due to inflation (due to printing money by Fed). If you think 5% is too much, then why don't you lend me 1 million dollars. I will return them back to you in 30 years. Would you like that.

Alternatively, if you don't like banks, don't take any loans. Buy what you want using cash only.

    Can you do that?

  • you don't seem very intelligent either.... because most people dont have enough cash to buy a house that cost 250,000 dollars... banks run the country , federal reserve runs the country .... that is where the problem lies...

  • So you want your BIG BROTHER THE GOVERNMENT to buy you a home, give you money and babysit your kids.

Grow up and take care of yourself, don't just demand everyone else to take care of you. LOSER.

  • Thats ridiculous .... people who collect social security pay into the system ... my father worked for 35 years.... my mom was a police officer for 25 years... my uncle own his own business for over 20 years and they ALL PAID INTO THE SYSTEM... and now there collecting on it.... without social security NONE of them could retire.... the cost of living is so high they all need that income along with there retirement money .... Social security is a MUST in this country.....

  • @funkyflights:

Regarding social security: people who work pay for it, but should they get this much? If a person works for 35 years, pays 3000 a year, retires and is expected to live in average 20 more years, should they make 50,000 a year?

Why not a million - because they are entitled?!

Any pay as you go system steals money from those who work now and gives to those who are retired. Just because the people who are retired, used to gauged by the govt, it doesn't mean this thievery should go on.

  • My father is receiving 1,600 a month for social security .... he was working since he was 16 years old.... he retired at age 65... so that's 49 years of paying into the system ... the elderly need social security because the cost of living will not allow people to save the kind of money they need to live off of when there not working... otherwise people would be working into there 70,s 80,s and 90's just to survive...I don't know about you BUT I"m happy to pay a tax that will help the elderly.

  • Right on! Keep up the good work fighting off these theives who want everyone else to pay for them.

  • Just like a NBC based show to bring on one capitalist against two shrieking socialist hags.

    StuartGalore's point is well made.

  • Why was it two guests for socialized medicine and only one against?

  • Because they need two pro-socialists to drown out the logic of a mentally stable person. And even then they failed.

  • Like an episode of Seinfeld. Hahahahaha.

Biden is sort of like Kramer.

  • Biden is like Newman.

  • How many of the uninsured actually WANT to be insured?

I mean, if you're young, healthy, single and saving, you probably won't want to shell out $100 a month or more for health insurance you won't need.

  • The blond has absolutely no clue what she's talking about. NO CLUE.

  • Both of these women are idiots who have no clue what they are talking about. They are talking nonsense; they make no clear points, only emotional arguments. I wish they would start using logic instead of just shouting. P.S. Im not putting down women, just these two idiots.

  • The Left knows NOTHING about real healthcare reform or economics. So why should we let THEM decide our healthcare policies? Let an expert like Cannon guide us. Not some liberal idealist in "New America" foundation or that black-haired bitch.

  • I say just let the free market in healthcare work for a change. It's screwed up BECAUSE of gov't intervention! Gov't has made everything topsy-turvy with all the intervention and healthcare agencies and whatnot. In a free market before the 1960s, healthcare was much easier to get and a lot more affordable. Sure, there was a small minority who could not afford it, but with anything important like healthcare, there will always be people who can't afford it. You can only stretch the pie so big.

  • I can't stop laughing when that woman said "If you're uninsured and own a home". The fuck? Unless you're one of those poor folks who got a subprime mortgage, I'm pretty sure if you can afford to own a home, you can afford HEALTH CARE! Home payments are far more than $100 a month for health care, for cryin out loud. It boggles the mind that you can make enough to own a home and somehow not be able to afford insurance. It's just ridiculous. You must be spending too much on other stuff.

  • CNBC of all networks should know the 46/47 Million number is a total misnomer! What shoddy fucking reporting. Don't let the politicians give you your "facts", Mr. Anchorman. You know only a fraction of that 47 Million actually can't afford it and desperatel y need it.

  • what a damn joke

  • Dont ever let that black headed bitch on the show again without duct tape over her mouth
