there is no need to put down religion! I am very religious but these people against stem cells are just plain stupid- stupid people should not have a say in anything -or a vote- before they can talk they should get an injection of stem cells into their brains- otherwise they need to shut up! Do you know how many homeless orphans are living on the street out of garbage cans down in south america- you people against stem cells should go help them in stead of worrying about stem cells!
"wait for a future with better alternatives" that's not how progress works. Alternatives are not going to just fall in our lap without research. Embryonic stem cells are the most promising path for curing many ailments. I'm just going to say it flat out because someone needs to - 150 cells does not constitute a human. 150 cells are not sentient. 150 cells need not be defended, especially when their destruction can save lives.
If my four year old son didn’t suffer from Cystic Fibrosis, I would still support stem cell research and treatment, as I understand human rights, I understand the worries that people have, but I ask you do you understand the suffering that these human beings have? Finally do those who oppose stem cell research understand these life changing diseases that this research and treatment can cure?
So, the only argument against stem cells is MORAL... damned fundies... sticking their noses into scientific research. They should be sued for murder, since people could have been saved if that craphead Bush hadn't almost shut down the USA research. Think of the progress we might have made if these superstitious yahoos hadn't gotten into the act... damn religion...
Religious Pro-Life zealots will lie and bitch till they get their way and let billions die and hinder progress.
The embryos used in embryonic stem cell research are embryos to be discarded but instead donated for research in order to save life. Those are not babies because they are not babies, they are extra frozen embryos scheduled to be thrown away in a fertility clinic.
You say "Don't compromise life" but life is already compromised by the flaws of nature. To do nothing is (for lack of a better word) Stupid. Humor me for a second and think about it.
You're only worried about Embryo lives but not actual suffering people. That doesn't make sense. Mafarmerga (The one marked as spam) is right about extra chromosomes. It's impossible for these Embryos to become life. So what are you protecting exactly? Your political view?
Don't flag people for spam when it's not spam. You enabled comments in the hopes that only good messages will be said about your video?
I'm sorry but wait for an alternative is ridiculous. How many people will you let die before this alternative happens? Stem Cell research is the biggest advancement to medicine ever. Do you know someone that is or was dying from Cancer or is a Quadriplegic? I do. It's people like you that increase their chances to die or live a long life in agony.
@SagaWrath Thanks for your input. I don't remember flagging mafarmerga as spam. I may have done it accidentally. If I was one to purposely flag negative comments then I would have flagged the first comment as well.
This video as well as the pros video was made as a presentation for how to argue, not a presentation for stem cell research.
@cranberrykate4x8 It's a presentation on how to argue but It's not a presentation for debunking (or w/e) Stem Cell research? But the video is called The Cons of Stem Cell Research. So this is what, a teaching of debate by an example? I don't understand what you mean by that. You're using the subject "Cons Of Stem Cell Research" with no reference that this is just for argument.
But since this video is taken seriously, you should know that the main reason to wait for alternatives is to protect life. There is room for improvement. I agree that lifeless embryos should be used for research, however, sometimes they are not lifeless. Also, some would-be mothers justify third-trimester abortions with that logic. This video defends an ethical view.
@cranberrykate4x8 Did you know you can freeze an Embryo and thaw it? It's technically not a living being. If the mechanism that brings an Embryo to be eventually a human being then that same logic can be used to determine that Sperm and the Egg themselves are half Human. Only ethical thing I can see is to save and heal those that already survived the lottery of birth. Embryos and people die every day. Please choose one for boths' sake.
What the average person does not realize is that today human embryonic stem cells are derived from embryos that were created for IVF and have lethal genetic defects (such as extra chromosomes or trisomy). These embryos can NOT give rise to a live birth. No way, no how. Nonviable. They are not human beings and they have zero chance of becoming human beings. Yet they CAN become hESC lines.
To simply throw these cells away is morally unethical. Use them to better people's lives!
@mafarmerga I didn't know that the embryos used in stem cells were often trisomies. Although some trisomies can result in relatively healthy adults (i.e Down's syndrome), most are so destructive that they cannot survive even the first trimester. I think that abortion is immoral, but I am okay with stem cell research because you can use umbilical cord samples and the like. The trisomy option also makes sense, though.
This is stupid. Don't you know that a period (menstration) is basically the destruction of an embryo? Not only that, not all stem cells are found in embryos. They can be taken from the placenta and umbilical cord. It's not like we're going to use those things for anything better than saving another life.
@JessicaUzumaki A period is not basically the destruction of an embryo. An unfertilized egg will pass through the woman, and then she will bleed shortly after. An unfertilized egg is not an embryo (because an embryo has been fertilized for a while.). It is possible to pass a fertilized egg through a period, but this life would probably be called a zygote.
Half truths and nothing more than a infomercial with goal to create paranoia. Please educate yourself before taking on educating others.

The quote by pregnantpause states "...obtaining stem cells involves the destruction of a human embryo."
I disagree. It is involves the "transformation" of an embryo, and in that transformed state those human cells live on for the betterment of mankind.
What DOES destroy an embryo is a couple's decision to have extra IVF embryos thrown away or autoclaved.
Is it not better to transform these valuable cells than it is to destroy them?

i agree with this video; not that it has explicitly said anything.
stem cell research will invade the natural processes that occur in human lives.
humans bring in evil, and therefore bring in more evil to counteract it - yet they don't realise that it will add to produce more evil.
its always been like this, and i suppose it will always be like that.

What about the benifits like curing diseases. using Adult stem cells (to the ability of my knowledge) does no harm or tests on infants.

There's no cons to stem cell research.
