Cool video :) I recently got my hands on a copy of Maya 5 and SoftImage|3D 4.0 for my Fuel. They installed without a hitch. But I'm having trouble figuring out how to install the FlexLM licenses. Are there any how to's on how to do this?
When I was entering the animation program at my college, they were just phasing these computers out and I never got to use them. I love the unique colors and designs of the computer cases. Is there any software exclusive to these that has unique visualization/capabilities?
@Parsec994a Well there are a few demos that are *exclusive*. Thing is, these are purely work machines, and so if something is useful on one platform, like Maya, Avid's tools, Pro/E, Alias, it's available elsewhere, i.e. on Windows/Linux/OSX.
in 1988 and 1997 it was the rolls royce for making 3d content but today is very limited compare to a sun system or Mac pro station or any today pc with linux.
that is absolutely true - but you can look at it also from the brighter side, they [ any mips powered sgi ] can still make wonderful things, the excitement and creative power is still there regardless their age ,,,,,,,
@cybercow222 Man SGI systems still rock. I use a 900Mhz Fuel with Maya 6.5 professionally. Coupled with my Origin 300 system, it holds its own quite well. These guys knew how to make a a rocking system!
i think they had specific softwares to do terminator 2 , and not a big integrated one like maya. they may did a lot of pass to make the T1000 effects on old sgi machines.
yeah but that movie was done on sgi onyx like machines...oh wait i remember...that movie was done on hardware less powerful than the indy, the Iris I think it was called!
... in fact it`s not so bad like it seems :O it`s clear that one can`t make something special and complicated, but some simple logo or something like this still can be done :)

Awesome. It was made in the 1990s, and it can still run today's programs.

Excellent piece of hardware. Indeed, rather amazing it could handle Maya all the way up to version 5.
Nowadays everything is quantity, not quality.

I don't think the indy was intended for such a CPU intensive program.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
Damn, that is slow. And what is all that banding on Maya's splash screen? isn't your card 24bit colour?

That's the refresh rate, wiseguy.
