Chaplin's films were not only wonderfully choreographed comedies, they were also deep social commentaries on a world that has seen better days. Even if the subject is as tough as the Depression, Chaplin still manages to put smiles on the myriad of worrisome faces who came into the theater in search for escapism... he never strayed from telling the reality of suffering and was never afraid to criticize any context. Unfortunately, we need Chaplin now more than ever!
