A great player but wouldn't lace Hills boots for me. Just doesn't have the same expression, phrasing or flowing rhythm of Hill. Technically brilliant but lacking those fundamentally important aspects that Hill has mastered. His use of the two hands sometimes causes too much staccato in the tune.
i never really have been a lover of the concertina, but this man changed my mind set....its not the usual squeeky sound. with the two hands incorporated, its a mystical sound :)
I think Michael is in a class of his own. I never heard anyone elase play like him even Noel Hill. I used to work in a shop where he was repairing concertinas, the best part was when the instrument was repaired he would test it out. I love the way he plays the tune with right and left hands.
fabulous!!....the concertina has always been a lively instrument to me...I play the piano accordian and would love to learn this one also.....thanks for posting....very enjoyable indeed!
Brilliant. He's a wonderful player with great rhythm. What a lovely sound. He's playing a Suttner concertina- and there's one listed on on EBay now (23 October 2008) - # 250313506046.
Fair enough Ptarmi, preferences play a big part in it all right.

Michael & Noel are both excellent players.
If you prefer the style of one over the other, that's fine, but it sure as hell doesn't make one better than the other.
For Jayzus sake just enjoy the good qualities of ALL the good players.
Life is too short to be bitchy & after all, playing music isn't a sport, a race or a competition!
We all have our favourites, but face facts, nobody is better or worse than anyone else!

Not to be mean or anything but, Noel Hill gets all the flowers. I think this guy is better, as far as I know. Then maybe I don't know much.
