  • The depth and resonance of Mr. Stokes' voice are superb! Maybe he's not the most natural Javert (he almost sounds too nice), but he's a great pleasure to hear in this great song.

  • Has anyone seen him in August Wilson's "King Headley II?" He did not have to sing but his voice was so powerful you could be on the moon and hear him.

What a convincng Javert he makes in this clip!

  • surely he cant sing confrontation and one day more as well as this!? if he can get that kind of resonance in his top notes then i might as well hang up my larynx for good! i suggest all other baritones do the same!

  • though having seen Quast many times in Sydney n getting 'goose-bumps' from his singing of "Stars" and having seen the Original Javert, Roger Allam singing the Original version of "Stars," i am floored by Brian S M's resonance n dramatic intent in this rendition!

  • @anthonyhenrysmith -Bravo! As good as I have ever heard this sung.

  • OMG!Brian is the best Javert ! i wish i got to see him this live, having loved him in Ragtime. His voice n his powerful rendition of this song are unparalleled

  • Brian Stokes Mitchell has the best voice to ever sing this song

  • I think Mitchell has a better voice but Norm Lewis plays the part better

  • I love both "Stars" and Brian Stokes Mitchell. Brilliant performance.

  • HAHAHA! how is it that people can compare this sheer brilliance with the lights of Norm Lewis! BLASPHEMY I TELL YOU

  • This is absolutely gorgeous, prolly one of the best versions of Stars i've seen. I loved him in Ragtime and this just adds to the wonderfullness of BSM. Sing on good sir

  • what a voice

  • Best Version ever !!!!!

  • @calvertwow Be careful..."Remember the Quast"....Philip Quast.

  • @Iesepurcell Not everyone has to think Quast is the best, ya know...

  • @Iesepurcell touche, touche. you're right, im personally against people forcing opinions on others so i agree with you. Although I believe Quast is best, BSM stole the show with this song and he did the song the best I've ever heard since the 10th anniversary. would've much preffered him in the 25th anniversary.

  • i literally heard the first note and melted...

  • BSM is a GOD!! His Petruccio was perfect in Kiss Me Kate. My vocal coach was in that with him, and now I search for his version of any song she gives me!

  • is it just me or does he look like Obama when they cut to him on the screen. haha

  • Mitchell is a special talent and in this recoding his technique is far more safe than in some of the examples of him singing Wheels of a Dream.

I like his acting and think he injects his singing with a drama which few can match.

  • Holy crapola! I'm floored! Possibly the best performed version I've heard of "Stars" EVER!!!!

  • Sometimes reminds of Captain Picard.

  • there are so many talented actors and actresses in this. i'm soooo angry that i live on the opposite side of the country

  • @ljam66 wahhhh? I love my New York City U_U

  • Please tell me there's a cast recording for this.

  • Ahh. I wish. D:

  • Damn. Now I'm really annoyed that I never got around to seeing this. The idea that it was an "in concert" version put me off, but wow. This looks like it was fantastic!

  • I knew he had the voice!!!!

  • Just think how great it would be to hear Colm Wilkinson and Brian Stokes Mitchell in a revival of Les Miz.

  • OMG, YES I could go for Brian or Philip Quast, both are amazing in my book.

  • The last leading man of broadway amazing

  • thats not true, there are a few left. Brian D'arcy James is quite amazing

  • Hey now your forgetting Norm Lewis he is truly amazing also but I do admit I love love love Brian Stoke Mitchell no one like him

  • DUDE!! I'M SO PISSED @ MY MOM NOW!!! We made a deal that if I could get enough money to pay for my ticket, we could go to this. I got the money and found out that the only reason my mom made the deal in the first place was cuz she didn't think I'd do it. I was really upset for a few weeks after that but I got over it. Now I'm REALLY PISSED THAT I DIDN'T GO!!!! Marius' voice would've bugged me but it would've been sooooooooo worth it to hear BSM sing as Javert and Lea Michele sing as Eponine.

  • It was Lea Michelle as Eponine, shit, I wish I coulda seen this

  • BSM is amazing. I was cast as Javert in a production of "Les Mis" yesterday at a youth theatre in Massachusetts. It's an amazing show, and an amazing, complex role.

  • I still can't stop watching this! It's gorgeous. The voice...the man... haha just beautiful.

  • amazing performance by the way!

  • is there a dvd of this?

  • i don't think there is, but there should be!

  • i know, an incredible cast. or a cd or something!

  • That is talent!

  • I love Brian's version of Some Enchanted Evening but I love Philip Quast's version of this song much better.

  • BSM's the best.

  • WOW.

  • ABsolutely gorgeous, sexy voice.

  • He should try operas. Amazing bass! I'm usually fond of basses.

    And he's hot, too.

  • He's sung "Porgy and Bess" before, which is definitely an opera. He sounded incredible.

    And yeah, he's really hot.

  • Mmm, if he did that, he could do Holländer. He's similar type as Simon Estes.

  • In opera he'd be more of a bass-baritone than a bass. He'd also have to correct his tendency to slide downwards on pitches. That's fine for pop/rock type music, but it would get him crucified by opera critics.

  • Also, some of his vowels are a little funny--don't get me wrong, he's one of the greatest voices on b'way, but everyone has their faults.

  • Maybe it is why Terfel SUCKS in this song. He should leave Les Mis alone and go back to sing Leporelo.

  • I wanna cry every time I hear his voice....I had no idea he was amazing beyond Ragtime!!

  • What an incredible voice!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • ¡EXCELENTE INTERPRETACIÓN!

  • i went and saw this.

he has always been one of my favorite people on broadway.

i get chills everytime he opens his mouth to sing.

    he is very powerful.

ragtime is still my favorite work of his.

  • There are no words--other than completely wonderful. What a voice!

  • amazing, immense voice. disappointing acting.

  • Brian stokes mitchell is my Idol...while in highschool I was so angry that I was a bass because back then I couldn't sing anything above an F and all our tenors sucked and couldn't sing but after listening to Mitchell for years I realized that being a bass is a gift

  • Every time I watch this (and I have watched it many, many times), it becomes more and more incredible. This man is amazing.

  • I knew he had the perfect voice for Javert. Go Brian!! *cheers*

  • This guy kicks ass, that's all there is to it.

Its been over ten years since a cast recording was released, this cast would be perfect for a CD!!!!!!!!!

  • INCREDIBLE!!!!!

  • Great! This is the voice type I like for Javert.

  • Excellent. I prefer Javert as a bass, and this proves my case amply.

  • Amazing

  • He is an alumni from my old youth theatre company and he did his "Impossible Dream" work shop with our honor society and a benefit concert about 2 years ago so we could raise money for new equipment...such an amazing guy as well. He was supposed to be at our gala last weekend but he had rehearsal for this, and I was lucky enough to this friday. Amazing!

  • I've met him several times! He's really good friends with my uncle and he's the nicest and most modest person about his work! I love this guy

  • THIS IS F***ING AMAZING!!!!!!!!!! Could you please post the whole show??

  • I was there on Friday!! The whole cast was friggin fantastic! Brian's rendition of Stars even had my dad whistling, and hes seen les miz at least 6 times! Brian Is PERFECTION! LOVE IT!

  • Anything Stokes touches turns to gold...perfect example right here.

  • Wow...this is not even funny! I'm Speechless. Bravo! Orchestra sounds fantastic.

  • Wow. I knew he was going to be good but... wow.

  • Dear world,

    Brian Stokes Mitchell is perfection.

    Love,

    me

  • No kidding. Getting goosebumps again every time I watch this. Now I need to go dig up Man of La Mancha and Ragtime....

  • He also played Sweeney Todd!

  • @erinkettwig If you haven't already, see if you can get your hands on his Spider Woman recording... he was AMAZING in that role!

  • @sunrisesunset51 I knew him during the undergrad years. He's from San Diego. Do you know his voice was this rich and full when he was in his 20s? He was and still is an AMAZING performer!

  • THANK YOU! i've been waiting for this one. do you have suicide?

  • Yes, just not posted yet. Hopefully tonight. I got home from LA last night, and was only able to upload a couple.
