My 2x480s Lasted four days and they also caused damage to the brand new rampage III I had them in. Quality product. Yead bs, thats why they released the 580 with so much haste. Personally I will wait a long while to see what comes next. Actually, long term I dont see a future for Nvidia when true integration between CPU/GPU is established anyway so I guess they will get what they deserve for inflicting this shite on me.

@userbadshah Yeah, I see that now. I think it's a tie. The 5970 has much better FPS, but in you want a good picture the 480 does better at rendering the shadows and the lighting but at a lower FPS. It comes right down to price at what else your rig has in it.

As long as you can play the games above 30 FPS who cares, benchmarks are to demostrate the GPUs power to run a game, but when you are playing you dont even focus on FPS but the game itself remember its all about gameplay not just graphics.

then remember the fact that nvidia cards does 3d, physx and uses cuda cores, radeon uses crappy catalyst driver to reduce quality to increase performance, i would know because the last 3 cards ive had was all ati(radeon 7500, hd3650 and now 5850) catalyst causes stuttering in video games, due to ati cheating in anisotropic filtering to increase performance, which causes this problem.
also, im quite sure amd didn't make a 6970 gap, it's liekly a non reference overclocked card, in which case you need to compare it to a 570 superclock or such

So actually I had a result. My 2 x 480s overheated and corrupted their own on board memory. I got my money back. Thank god for that considering they are now admitting how poor the product was by releasing a new version a few months after. How can anyone be a fan of a company that rips of the people that support it most ardently. You have to be nuts.
Radeon came out with the 4870 x2 back then because it was losing to nvidia. And nvidia responded with the gtx 295 which is also a dual core. And today radeon's 5870 was losing to the 480 gtx so radeon had to respond with a 5970 radeon. History is repeating itself and when Nvidia comes out with a dual gpu with DDR5 ram. Nvidia will unanimously be number 1.
@eltiernit0 Actually most analysts predict difficult times ahead for Nvida. I dont much care who has the best product. I will just go for the best one. But Nvidia are in trouble. The future is combined processing with better efficiency from combined CPU / GPU. Never did make sense to have 2 processors as one integrated processor should be able to do a better job. NVidia are the only company in this field without a CPU history or license. btw, my 2 x4 80s failed after only 4 days use.
Radeon fans Its not about how many games use tesellation, its about testing the 3D processing power and architecture that graphics cards have. Radeon obviously blows at this kind of tessellation performance and of course quality comes with Nvidia its why they're more expensive and don't burn out like a light bulb after a short time look at both parties reviews. I'm sure if Nvidia starting fabricating graphics cards with DDR5 ram it'd make a big difference in the competition and Nvidia would be easily crowned king. Radeon is for light gamers who don't use much graphics intense games. Nvidia is for the tessellation freaks who want to squeeze every ounce of eye candy modern day technology can offer.
First of all Radeon fails at tesellation even with DDR5 ram which is pathetic because Im pretty sure that ram is responsible for its lower power consumption and similar performance a lower graphics settings vs Nvidia. RAdeon; however epicly fails at tesellation even with its ddr5 ram compared to the gtx 480 who uses ddr3 ram. For a long time through many generations of graphics cards Radeon has mostly always failed at higher resolutions. Eyecandy +heavygaming=nvidia.

@CYEggs Actually I much prefer Ati Anti Aliasing (edge detect). Also my 480s died due to heat damage after only 4 days taking my motherboard with them. I got the money back for the cards and the mobo replaced but still. Throwing power and therefore heat at the problem is no solution. The ATI cards are actually much more practical even with 2 gpus on the card. Pity ATi couldnt write a reliable driver if their lives depended on it.

The 5970 has better lighting, the text is better, it utilizes DX11 more efficiently because Nvidea chipsets are designed to render OpenGL.

The 6k Radeon series so far are literally cheaper, slower 5k series cards which rival the GTX460 in performance (but nVidia dropped the price on 470's by $200 to compete). Long story short? nVidia is king of High End. ATI forces it's way in the price/performance sector. Right now nVidia is raping just like ATI was in Q4 '09. And you're extremely misinformed.

@PsilocybinDream nVidia is worth four times more than AMD - the company that bought ATI. Unlike ATI, nVidia doesn't just make GPUs. And unlike AMD, they didn't make poor choices when acquiring smaller companies. In fact, their string of very smart purchases starting with 3dFX in 2000, and most recently ending with Ageia in 2008 (the company which ushered PhysX) has given them a very solid grasp on the GPU market - along with the knowledge & experience they have from the Supercomputing industry.

AMD = Great! Don't take this paragraph as a fanboy statement, because it's not. AMD has the best card on the market in the world, sure, Nvidia has PhsyX, CUDA and better tesselation technology, but it doesn't make'em better. Nvidia also has better overclocking, but it's not THAT much better, same for tesselation. Your not going to notice tesselation while your playing a game. PhysX = Bullet (AMD), which will be out on games pretty soon. Plus, for gamers, and even budget games, AMD is for you!

OpenGL should be used, but Nvidia blows up the whole physx part and ye ofcourse its great. But remember nvidia dit not create Physx.

to start with, go look at some benchies
then remember the fact that nvidia cards does 3d, physx and uses cuda cores, radeon uses crappy catalyst driver to reduce quality to increase performance, i would know because the last 3 cards ive had was all ati(radeon 7500, hd3650 and now 5850) catalyst causes stuttering in video games, due to ati cheating in anisotropic filtering to increase performance, which causes this problem.

So actually I had a result. My 2 x 480s overheated and corrupted their own on board memory. I got my money back. Thank god for that considering they are now admitting how poor the product was by releasing a new version a few months after. Yeah I am sure all the people suckered (like I was) into buying the previous versions are really loving Nvidia right now. How can anyone be a fan of a company that rips of the people that support it most ardently. You have to be nuts.

Radeon came out with the 4870 x2 back then because it was losing to nvidia. And nvidia responded with the gtx 295 which is also a dual core. And today radeon's 5870 was losing to the 480 gtx so radeon had to respond with a 5970 radeon. History is repeating itself and when Nvidia comes out with a dual gpu with DDR5 ram. Nvidia will unanimously be number 1.

@eltiernit0 Actually most analysts predict difficult times ahead for Nvida. I dont much care who has the best product. I will just go for the best one. But Nvidia are in trouble. The future is combined processing with better efficiency from combined CPU / GPU. Never did make sense to have 2 processors as one integrated processor should be able to do a better job. NVidia are the only company in this field without a CPU history or license. btw, my 2 x4 80s failed after only 4 days use.

Radeon fans Its not about how many games use tesellation, its about testing the 3D processing power and architecture that graphics cards have. Radeon obviously blows at this kind of tessellation performance and of course quality comes with Nvidia its why they're more expensive and don't burn out like a light bulb after a short time look at both parties reviews. Plus the GTX 580 blows any single RAdeon card out of the water and blows the 5970 in many aspects too!!! NVIDIA RULES!

First of all Radeon fails at tesellation even with DDR5 ram which is pathetic because Im pretty sure that ram is responsible for its lower power consumption and similar performance a lower graphics settings vs Nvidia. RAdeon; however epicly fails at tesellation even with its ddr5 ram compared to the gtx 480 who uses ddr3 ram. For a long time through many generations of graphics cards Radeon has mostly always failed at higher resolutions. Eyecandy +heavygaming=nvidia.

@CYEggs yeah you know gtx 580 is going to loose to hd 6970 right, why well the core is made on 32nm and well like nvidia always is, again one step behind in the manufactorring of lower nm just like they lost wiht the gtx 200 series they will loose again with 5 , plus the gtx 480 only won dx11 tessalation on one game like metro and avp but the rest were flukes and if you only got one card the hd 5870 owns but crossfire scales bad on hd 5 series but the amd 6 series scales just as well as nvidia

You cannot say, that because of quality GTX 480 is way better than HD 5970, both card's have pluses and cons. Anyway the best possible machine to run ATI video cards is with AMD processors because they are of the same company. It makes for a well balanced system. Nvidia on the other hand runs better on Intel processors.

@CYEggs Actually I much prefer Ati Anti Aliasing (edge detect). Also my 480s died due to heat damage after only 4 days taking my motherboard with them. I got the money back for the cards and the mobo replaced but still. Throwing power and therefore heat at the problem is no solution. The ATI cards are actually much more practical even with 2 gpus on the card. Pity ATi couldnt write a reliable driver if their lives depended on it.

I have got a 9600gt 512mb with dual core 2.9ghz and i geat average 45,42 fps
gtx460 has got only 10-14fps more wich is not the best.
