  • Hey guys is it okay for you guys to put the sheet music in if that okay with yall?

  • Great version of a jazz classic! I have one year of playing saxophone and I'd like to have your nice tone on tenor saxophone. Congratulations!

  • woah

  • trombone is killin!!! sounds great.. i play trombone too in my high school.. cant wait to get that good..

  • Brilliant.

  • I play the sax and Matt you know you are good but I really like the Trombone Solo on this one its just got that old school jazz Jungle book feel. Please forgive me but I might have to copy this solo :-)

  • I really like the way you guys play this tune I would have love to jam with you on this

  • You guys jam well together, love it as always Matt.

Saw Alan Barnes and his Octet (with Bruce Adams on Trumpet) play their arrangment of this which begins with the 3 choruses Duke wrote for the tune. I ended up buying their album, which is a tribute to Ellington and Strayhorn's music, give me a heads up if you want some stuff from it.

    Peace

  • Very good.

But this really needs a trumpet to provide a contrast to all the smoothness.

  • nice performance you all....

  • Meravigliosamente classico.

  • Nice performance, by the way.

  • Cheers, you are right about pros breaking rules, I just dislike the prescriptive "you must hold your horn like XXX" it is often repeated from teachers, rather than proper informed opinion. Of course students should do things "correctly" but they should also look at other pros and say, well OK, different strokes for different folks and all that, especially in Jazz.

  • hmm, check out his website; marcusreynolddotcom, I am sure he knows how to hold his horn. Read his bio, 25 years a pro. Bear in mind he is reading here, as it is the first time he played with us

  • man, pros dont hold their horns in the proper way. Proshld their as they like, in their own way. Maniaguy09 has reason. If he wants to fit to the rule he should put up his horn.

  • NICE!

  • Just wonderful!. Thanks for such a nice music.

  • What can I say that hasn't been said already? Nothing really...it's superb as usual. A great laid back style and well put together riffs from all. I loved it

    Thanks for the music guys.

    Happy 2009 to all

  • Cool Trombone, shame it wasn't a bit louder/longer bass is sooo relaxed love it, sax great as always. All in all a great group, nice one.

  • Oooooh, I do like a nice bit of trombone, which this tune has! Rest of it's pretty damn good too...

Cool appearance sans the headphones (LOL)!

You have a great new year buddy,

    Mike

  • Keep going Matthew Stone

    I like it

Take the a train composed by Billy Strayhorn

You reminds me Duke Ellington orchestra,

with Paul Gonsalves on tenor sax

Happy New Year to you and yours.

  • Cheers DL, you would have been most welcome, we never got to do much together this year, maybe in 2009? Thanks for your support and encouraging to get out there, it has been a good year. Happy New Year to you and yours too!

This band is gooood! (to quote Paul Desmond "How many people are there in your quintet?")

Happy New Year to you all!

Happy New Year to you all

  • I love that PD quote, he had a wit as dry as his martinis. Happy New Year to you too, I hope you got everything you wanted for Christmas (sax-related?) I got a fake book, and a flute. That should keep me busy for a while :-)

  • Nothing like an Ellington piece to kick off the new year. Hail to your buddies Reynolds, the elusive Proudlock and Macdonald-Pearce. All of you sound great. Prospero ano nuevo, Matt.

  • Cheers YE, I always enjoy your comments, Mary has yet to be seen on camera, nothing deliberate! She lets her music do the talking. Happy New Year to you too!

  • Thanks, Matt.

  • Foote -- I neglected to mention you -- the heart of the beat. Huge regrets.

  • very nice!!!
