nice patterns and a great learning tool for anyone looking to expand their playing. As a side note Travis, as in Merle Travis, only used his thumb and index finger. Chet played a lot more like this.
Excellent, clear lessons. I don't mind the length of your nails, since I understand their utility - but they look like they have nail polish on 'em....;o)
i know this may sound stupid...but are there different kinds of Travis picking?...cuz this is a bit different from the one i learned...i mean,, really, just a bit different
very good lesson! just one thing I don't understand: how come you don't "pick" any Em strings? You could do that passage between the Fmajors without any chords at all... I'm not very experienced so I'm probably missing something, would please tell me? thanks, your lessons are very useful and well made by the way!
I've never seen anyone Travis pick this way. Normally, the thumb picks the 4th 5th and 6th string. In this example his thumb would alternate between the 5th and 4th string and the middle and index fingers play the 2nd and 3rd.
For some reason I learned this without using my ring finger and I play the two lowest notes with my thumb. I guess it came natural to me. Could that cause problems in playing some songs?

What time signature is this in, it seems to be really weird like it only has 7 notes or am I missing something?

Guaranteed by Eddie Vedder uses this pattern, great song! ;)

For some more technical songs yes it could slow you down. But on the otherhand, some of the greatest fingerpickers had unusual technique.
