Christianity a zombie worshipping death cult that engages ritual cannibalism and has doctrines that endorse slavery, misogyny, xenophobia, homophobia and separatism based on imaginary misdeeds and victimless crimes. It seeks to control its followers and convinces them than ignorance is knowledge, slavery is freedom, hatred is love and faith is virtue. It glosses over atrocities and celebrates them as virtuous acts while condemning those who harm none as sinners.
Sounds like this guy is against the top scientists around; wonder who is the odd one out? I think this guy has a big chip; no, most likely a boulder on his shoulder. But most of all he is way, way out on the stem cell research issue.
@helpmetony "Christianity would be revealed as a science? I'm suprised so many people buy this jokers books. Wait a minute,,,,,,,,,no I'm not."
I think you're missing the point. He is saying that if jesus were to magically manifest in reality, that would be actual evidence that science can evaluate. The occurrence could actually be studied, and that is called science. Until we find evidence for religious claims, there is nothing of substance to believe.
@helpmetony "do you consider "magically manifest" to be science?....missing what point again?"
The point you are missing is that If something like god were to manifest in reality, it could be evaluated by science. If something can't be evaluated by science, it's non-existent. That is what Sam Harris is saying.
You know Sam Harris is suppose to be a scientist but he seem to have forgotten about the cardinal rule about science is observation, hypothesizing, experimenting and formulating theories. If Jesus came out from the clouds like a superhero that still wont be considered as science. It would be very miraculous but not science
@theunraveler Yes, it would be considered science in a sense that, when the bible makes the claim that's going to happen, it's making a hypothesis and it becomes a theory. And when it's observed that Jesus actually comes down from the clouds like a superhero, the theory is proven correct.

dingle1 I'm currently 2 3rds way through his book "the end of faith" . Harris makes some valid critisisms about religion (although not enough in my view). I find his apologist attitude towards Bush and his Neo Con cronies for want of a better phrase, full of shit! He argues the difference between Bush and Bin Laden is intent not body count. Oh polease, give me a fkn break, as if Bush or Clinton cared one shit about muslims in Sudan or Iraq or Afghanistan.
@qaplatlhinganmaH Well, if all biological organisms evolved from the same organic material, then we’re the cousins of carrots and cows, which makes us cannibals anyway ;)
Incorrect, Sammy. Soul or not, humans are not property.
Let's talk about the details. A 150 cell embryo's cells cure nothing. They are not killed, they are indeed kept alive, but separately, they are cultured and replicate and differentiate millions of times over. A 9 month old "stem cell line" is nothing more than a newborn baby's body parts growing in separate dishes. For profit body parts are readied for sale for transfer into other humans.
there is a good article that explores the potential antipathy against science that is inherent to religious thinking on the web site examiner. you can find it by searching "stephen Marotta ignorance religion"
There is no conflict. Both religion and science seek the truth in their own language. What's this guy have against embryos? It has NOTHING to do with souls. Embryos develop into people. Flies make maggots. 1000 less embryos mean 1000 less scientists, doctors, etc. Rationally, 1000 intact embryos as adults can treat and potentially cure diseases more than their chopped up cells. Sincerely, an MD who knows the truth.
and your an MD who needs to pay attention to what Sam Harris is saying.
since when did Sam Harris actually go against embryos? he just favors stem cell research
OF COURSE IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH SOULS
that was the whole point!!!!!
religious people love to go against stem cell research because they claim that these embryos have souls and Sam Harris was just going over why these cells have nothing to do with souls or that souls dont exist.

"Human" in "human embryo" means human, nothing less. TENS OF MILLIONS of patients. Now how many humans (embryos) would be created and destroyed to treat these people? This guy is VERY dangerous. Ha ha, holocaust is not funny. Skin cells scratched have no nuclei. His arguments are full of holes.
if there was a burning building and there was a six year old child and a cooler filled with thousands of embryos which one would you save? you cant save both child and cooler.

I question as to why folks on You-Tube don't, or can't, write intelligibly. This is a public forum so therefor capitalization & punctuation count.

I liked that point about flies :D. When christianity screams out "save the life", it don't bother itself eating meat :D. Nice.

for a good cause
i would not consider calling a 3 day embryo a human
all it is is a clump of cells that have human genes. no brain = no human
theres a type of Siamese twin where one of them could be born without a brain but still have other functional organs that leech off the other twin.
that part of the Siamese twin is not considered a human but a parasite or it is considered to be part of the other twins body.
no brain = no human

ya your right
lets not kill Siamese parasites neither because they are human. even though it burdens the twin
and the question earlier
lets say the cooler didn't go off into stem cell research
would you save the 6 year old child or the cooler?
which one would make you feel better?

oh and by the way there are hundreds of thousands of these cells waiting to be thrown out.
you can either use them for stem cell or throw them out.
the IVF clinics can't hold thousands and thousands of blastocysts because there is such little demand for them.
might as well use them for stem cell research.
you can advocate banning IVF later but for now we have so much of these cells that the best would be to use it for stem cell research.
