Pretty fun to watch this clip with the Italian voice overs.....I can't understand a word they say but I've seen this movie so many times that I know what they mean.
Okay I think some of you need to be reminded that many "warmbloods" have Thoroughbred blood. Warmbloods aren't a pure breed at all. They're horses selected for breeding based on conformation/performance criteria. So, you can very well have a "warmblood" that has a high percentage of TB blood. There's many TB mares approved as warmblood breeding stock. Yes indeed TB's are athletic and can indeed jump well if you select a TB, as you would a WB, for jumping ability.
Why is it hard to believe? TBs are excellent jumpers. Most of the horses in the Show Jumping Hall of Fame are TBs. Some of the greats include Untouchable, Snowbound, Ksar d'Esprit, Riviera Wonder, Touch of Class, Sinjon, Jet Run, Gem Twist, For the Moment, and many more. They are simply out of fashion now.
Have you heard of Gem Twist, For the Moment, Jet Run, Bonne Nuit, Riviera Wonder, Ksar D'Esprit, Miss Budweiser, Night Owl, Touch of Class, Snowbound, Untouchable, Sinjon, Idle Dice...to name a few? TBs are athletic, great jumpers. They are just out of fashion, unfortunately.
@NatashaSikyta Have you heard of Jet Run, Gem Twist, For the Moment, Idle Dice, Touch of Class, Riviera Wonder, Untouchable, Miss Budweiser, Ksar d'Esprit, Sinjon, and many more?
@deweyrooter Ohyes, Greg Best on Gem, Fred, Rodney Jenkins on Idle Dice, Joe Fargis winning the gold on tiny Touch of class, Steinkraus on Riviera Wonder/ Ksar D'esprit, Miss Bud and Sinjon (also ridden by George Morris). And let's not forget Snowbound !
@NatashaSikyta Not that long ago Thoroughbreds were the main horses ridden in world class Grand Prix competitions. They are still widely used for eventing and were at the last Olympics. A well bred Thoroughbred is one hell of a horse for jumping
kathy kusner is amazing! i had a clinic w/ her and i've gotten such a better feel going over jumps. She is amazing! I highly suggest doing one of her clinics if she offers one at your stable. :)
I did a clinic with Kathy and wow! my riding has changed so much! i have much more control and more balance if she ever comes to anyones stable i highly recommend you to take her clinic!
This info is in a Steinkraus' book but it's not correct at all.The previous rider (Stefano Angioni) tried to contact him to correct this. With him he horse competed and won some of the most important competitions all over Europe and never stopped. He rode him in a special halter. 4 a problem in his mouth the horse couldn't accept the bit.Kathy rode him in a snaffle, and that's the point.Angioni tougth her how to ride without a bit(Aquisgrana,'67 few days before she became the European Champ.)
Very interesting. I did know the horse went in a hackamore. I am sorry if Steinkraus' book contained misinformation; I own the book and have read it many times. Steinkraus is a great horseman and very intelligent, but even he can make a mistake, I suppose! It's unfortunate that his error perpetuated a misconception about the horse. Now the book is out of print, I am sure.
Steinkraus' book is very nice. Some times mistakes happend, i don't think it was intentional. I know about the story directly from P.Angioni (Stefano's brother), that told about Aberali's training without a bit. Probably S.Angioni was one of the firsts that rode in gran prix in hackmore. Really it was more similar to a side pull than to a "metal" hackmore
Kathy Kusner was an AMAZING rider!! She was my childhood hero....And I remember Aberali well. I saw her jump him over a huge wall with just a hackamore!!!
pshhh and people say that thoroughbred jumpers are outdated, tbreds are too sensitive. I don't care what they say, thoroguhbreds are still nice, and this movie may be old but it doesn't change how nice that horse is!!!!!!!
Hi, I saw this movie as a child when it was first released. It's my all time favorite movie. At the end the entire audience was cheering and clapping when Aspercel won. Great movie-I wish there were more like this!

yeah what are you talking about? Before warmbloods, thoroughbreds were the most common horse. All of the classic hunters are thoroughbreds.

Kathy was an amazing rider. I understand she resurrected the career of Aber Ali, who was something a stopper at one time. He looks gorgeous here.
