Kim hunter, Karl Malden and Marlon Brando were very good in this movie. It was Vivian who I could not take my eyes off of. She really gets me into her roles anyway like no other actress.
Funfact: That sailor that talks to her was also one of the Beau Wilkes in Gone With The Wind. No one on the set believed him when he said he had worked with Vivien Leigh when he was little. It got backed to her they had a long chat in her dressing room to catch up. Of course, everyone believed him after that.
only a GREAT talented actress can play such oposite roles, scarlett and blanche so perfect. people..sometimes..that the actress are TWO different actess. a tribute to her talent. and not because she suffered from bipolar she plays blanche to perfection, she does because her great understanding to the role. her beauty and talent are beyond words. carlos
thanks -- probably the most perfect song to the most ellusive and talented human being ever discovered; I've felt like this before, but nobody can express it like this song or like she does. . . "before I fall in love, I'm preparing to leave her"
Vivien Leigh also suffered from bipolar disorder (I hope that's the right name) in real life and it got only worse after she played this role. People who have a real connection and understanding for their caracter play the best... I think I wouldn't really have liked Blanche now, but I would have felt terribly sorry for her. She's actually a sad person.
@VthatsME She also had Manic Depression. It's tragic but she gave great performances because of it. It's said that during Gone With The Wind's filming she went home extremely upset after a day of watching the dead soldier fall down the stairs (Whom her character just shot). And then this film also licked some wounds.
Vivien Leigh will always be my favourite actress and i believe she was the best. In her performances she evokes such a strong reaction from the viewer weather it be as the doomed, tragic Blanche or the fiesty, strong Scarlett (complete opposites!) the way she can become completely the character living and breathing so real is beyond compare.
Thanks for the beautiful Blanche tribute RocyMartinez.
Vivien Leigh was the perfect Blanche. These days were great because they had no special effects, just good acting. If anyone still reads these days Vivien Leigh,s biography by Anne Edwards is an absorbing read.
Your video - what a sensitive edit! I love that you skipped the "tiger" business and made the rape of the letters the really important thing. And so much more - Fantastic job, thank you!
You know, referring to the description, Vivien hated the word 'beautiful' and despised it being said to her. She really wanted to hear' great actress' but her beauty was the only thing people ever noticed.
well i saw the movie for the first time last week and i am totally in love with this movie. It beats all of the crap that's at the movies. It is a great story.
Lol, I have seen alot of clips of it on youtube, but treated myself to the DVD earlier today. Hoping it's as good in the full movie as it is in the little clipets I have seen!
how did you like it? Did it blow your mind? Very graphic story telling. I've seen the 1984 version with treat williams and the one with john goodman but never the original until now. i picked up at my local library.
Oh yes! I was absolutely and utterly stunned at it! I've heard of it before, when I was younger (having seen a certain episode of the Simpsons) but was truly stunned. Vivien played the role Blanche wonderfully, and Marlon Brando was great too. Yes it did blow my mind! Lol.
Truly the best actress of all time. She will never be forgotten.

Leigh and Brando give the greatest pair of performances ever filmed in a singular movie.
