I`m just a laymen but that looks like it could be difficult for a pilot..? Maybe it IS an optical illusion like someone wrote but it did look steep and those mountains look pretty close taking into considration "swing room" and keeping a distance from them...But it DID look very steep...
this departure of innsbruck is the easy one;-)flying the west departure...skyeurope since flying to the east had to perform a left turn after first visual portion of flight(passing first mountain ridge on the right)the turn 180 overhead airport to vienna.during 180 turn ,we had 3 different escape manoeuvers depending when the engine failure occurs..same on arrival westerly landing or circling to east runway! All take off with max thrust due obstacle.inn needs specific training in sim and aircraft
I've never seen a commercial aircraft fly so steeply before? 757s are powerful aircrafts but, either there was a lighter payload or Monarch have adjusted their engines to give them more power than usual. Well done for giving some superb shots of the Austrian Alps. 5 stars!
Thanks! Yeah it really did seem a bit strange to me, having only taken off in open areas like Gatwick. I can't image there was a light payload, the plane was full of people and everyone had skiing equipment, so I assume they must have altered the engines or just really fired her up!
It could also have been because of the short travel distance of this flight. The 757 is capable of flying non-stop from Paris to New York, so it could be possible that this aircraft only needed 25% of their fuel capacity. Now, when you first spool the engines up to full power with the parking brakes on, you can get the most power out of the engines. Just look at the short take-off roll and see for yourself ;) I hope my text is understandable, because I'm from holland.
@JeremyKou Yeah, think your right, because it took a while for the aircraft to start moving once the engines started to spool up. I'd say that the takeoff pitch was between 18-23 degrees. Very nice view.
@craiglsimons Actually what you are seeng is an optical illusion because of the high mountain peaks. Remember the HORIZON is actually at the BASE of the mountains and they are close to the aircraft.

nice video, love scenery, that seemed like a very steep climb!
alicesprings84 4 years ago 7
Yeah it was, there's a mountain in front of the runway so you have to take off quite steep to avoid it :)

If you listen carefully at 00:41, the tail hits the runway :D.

"If you listen carefully at 00:41, the tail hits the runway :D."
Haha, yeah. :D that'd rock. Actually thats the front wheel dropping to hang free when the nose has pulled up. Always sounds as cool.

Aha! Thanks for that info :D
I can always remember the landing gear being retracted/put down, but I didn't know this happened!

This comment has received too many negative votes show
thats not the tail you sucker the landing gear makes that noise on the runway while rotating

Yes...the guy above already explained that :S
