  • @DeathShamans

It's nearly impossible to translate the poetic language full with double meanings, it just doesn't convey the full meaning.

This song is from a play by Rainis called Spēlēju, Dancoju. A young man named Tots is trying to save his dying bride Lelde. He's calling upon the forces of good - for the Sun to rise and stop shedding light towards the darkness and for the Earth to stop drinking the blood of his bride, whilst Lelde is struggling to stay awake and is nearly ready to die.

  • @DeathShamans

The forces of good are quite reluctant to help, but Tots is determined to save his bride no matter what.

The play is a metaphor for the century-long struggle of the Latvian nation against forces of evil (Germany, Russia) and was written on the brink of WW I.

The song ends with Tots' words "I won't give her away", meaning the independence of the Latvian nation.

It's impossible to understand the words without knowing the context of the Rainis' play and the Latvian history.

Many russians living in latvia calls it "dog language"... After living here 50 years they don,t know how to say hello in latvian...

  • @neticigaistoms oh, what a "fun"! do you want to know how Latvians call these illiterates?

  • @69996xxx

I don,t know how you call them in states, but in Latvia they are mostly called "urlas".

  • @Alchazar Acis veras - aizveras Saules nav un nav ko redzēt 2x Mute veras - aizveras Saules nav un nav ko sacīt Saule, saule, saule nāc Saule kaunā neved bērnus Miroņ svece te nu dziesti Tumsu tavi stari griezti Saule ņemi mani atkal Es pie tevis atkal nāku Manu dzīslu vārti vērās Asins staigā locekļos Mazas asins lāses Ceļu sīku pilieniem My English is to poor to try to translate.
  • @Anakena8 Thank you. But, are you sure, that it is complete? I´m afraid, that last few seconds are missing (2:10 ...). But thank you :-)

  • @Alchazar

Yes, You are right, there is some more lines.

    Mazas asins lāses

    Treju sīku pilieniņ

    Asins lāses vai vēl trūkst

    Vēl tu Zeme neatceries

Lāsts tev Zeme, lāsts tev Saule

    Neatdošu laupījumu.

  • @Anakena8 :-) Thanks
