@huttisau James doesn't even hit a lot of the lower notes in key on this performance let a lone the higher ones, and that's only a small part of the problem. He sings in short staccato bursts, his vibrato is atrocious, and his voice is really strained and nasally. The only song he sounds good in on this DVD is Take the Time, and even that performance is sub par when compared with his overall performance on the Score DVD. James simply hasn't been sounding all that great the last few years.

James is singing with D.T for more than 20 years,He is was present in every single day in their adventures which include Hours and hours singing in just one day.Plus when you have ,Portnoy,Petrucci,Jordan and Myung behind,Man your Voice must be very very powerful even with a Good mic..and also you must be very very careful with the Technic aspect of the songs whitch contain thousands of notes..So i think No one Can Do what he did knowing that he broke a chord vocal in 1994.

Labrie has gotten better since this. I would say that today he is as good as he's been since around Scenes From a Memory. Maybe even a little before that.
Dream theater songs are all about creativity, this is my fav rock band after Iron maiden and Bon jovi, but i come to believe mostly music listeners have no sense to understand music at all, we have so many great artists who were never famous such names as Gilbert Sullivan and Lobo, who were very much creative in their genre..
This is why DT is the only metal band that i like. I usually don't like the sounds of metallica, iron maiden etc, but they got such diverse sound. Amazing.
I'm seeing them with Iron Maiden, so they definitely won't be tired! But they will have a shorter set. Oh well, I get to see maiden too! Johm Petrucci and Dave Murray are two of my biggest guitar influences :D
Hey, the man vomitted up his vocal cords basicly. But he's still out there rocking with the best of his ability. Rush is my 2nd favorite band of all time but DT will remain the 1st. They just don't compare to this beauty and prog.
As much as it hurts to say it, being a long time Dream Theater fan, I cannot help but feel that they elongate this song, and other older compositions, just to over-compensate for James' lack of power these days so they can still 'wow' people. Call me a LaBrie hater (I certainly ain't one, I love him) but wouldn't you agree?. I really don't wanna hear this version of Surrounded, it's too far fetched. Compare this to Surrounded from Live in Tokyo and you'll see what I mean. Original is best.

Anyway I saw them live in Monterrey, México 5th march (few days ago) and he actually sang freaking ameazing!, including songs like take the time, voices and other kick asses songs
I think he rested and trained enough becouse his voice now is fresh, clean and powerful again, I hope they can record a dvd before james gets tired again you will see hes an incredible singer, i admire him pretty much.
DT's 1st lead sing was a guy called Charlie Dominici. The reasons why he left the band are unknown to me, but I'm sure as hell glad he did because Labrie is a hell of a singer. He's voice was severely affected due to a problem in his vocal chords but you should listen to him in his first recording especilly in the album "Live at the Marquee". hear this song in that album and also "fortune in lies" and then you will know that Labrie is the perfect singer for this band
Dominici was actually the second singer, the first was Chris Collins. Dominici left the band because he came from a soul based band and he couldn't sing as high as the band needed. He explained this himself in the second DVD of Score, the documentary.
I listened to the older recordings with LaBrie. He sounds good with DT's music but I never liked his voice very much. He's a good singer, but there are tons of better singer out there.
@YTazzkickr01 I think, that it's good, that James joined, because Chris and Charlie didn't have as identical voices as him. Otherwise, I like Dominici. Actually my fav recording with him is the "To Live Forever" from Wher Bream and Day Reunite. It just suits him better, then high notes.
I love this band so, so much...but ONLY THE MUSICIANS!! Makes me so fucking sad when amazing live performances of DT like this one are ruined because of LaBrie's horrible voice. His pussy yellings are impossible to understand!! I don't think he's a bad singer but I think he never was the right one for Dream Theater. I agree the Chaos In Motion tour he struggled a little bit here and they. However, on thier more recent Black Clouds and Silver Linnings CD and tour he sounds much stronger. Back like the old days and I am really glad for that!

James sounds very weird and tired on this video, he still hits the notes tho.
Anyway I saw them live in Monterrey, México 5th march (few days ago) and he actually sang freaking ameazing!, including songs like take the time, voices and other kick asses songs
I think he rested and trained enough becouse his voice now is fresh, clean and powerful again, I hope they can record a dvd before james gets tired again you will see hes an incredible singer, i admire him pretty much.

DT's 1st lead sing was a guy called Charlie Dominici. The reasons why he left the band are unknown to me, but I'm sure as hell glad he did because Labrie is a hell of a singer. He's voice was severely affected due to a problem in his vocal chords but you should listen to him in his first recording especilly in the album "Live at the Marquee". hear this song in that album and also "fortune in lies" and then you will know that Labrie is the perfect singer for this band

Dominici was actually the second singer, the first was Chris Collins. Dominici left the band because he came from a soul based band and he couldn't sing as high as the band needed. He explained this himself in the second DVD of Score, the documentary.
I listened to the older recordings with LaBrie. He sounds good with DT's music but I never liked his voice very much. He's a good singer, but there are tons of better singer out there.
It's my opinion but lots of people agree with me.

@YTazzkickr01 I think, that it's good, that James joined, because Chris and Charlie didn't have as identical voices as him. Otherwise, I like Dominici. Actually my fav recording with him is the "To Live Forever" from Wher Bream and Day Reunite. It just suits him better, then high notes.

I love this band so, so much...but ONLY THE MUSICIANS!! Makes me so fucking sad when amazing live performances of DT like this one are ruined because of LaBrie's horrible voice. His pussy yellings are impossible to understand!! I don't think he's a bad singer but I think he never was the right one for Dream Theater. In my opinion, because of him, this is not the PERFECT BAND...

I agree the Chaos In Motion tour he struggled a little bit here and they. However, on thier more recent Black Clouds and Silver Linnings CD and tour he sounds much stronger. Back like the old days and I am really glad for that!

Such a shame he can't hit that high note... I love that part. Back in the earlier days, his voice was so much fuller during the high notes...
