He did not write everything himself. Many of Elton's lines from his early to mid career were supplied by Bernie Taupin. If I remember correctly Rocketman and a few others were entirely Taupin. Also, I never said anywhere in my statement that Elton John didn't write. However, bands like Queen usually have enough members that the writing talent is entirely internal to the band.
