Why do you use a leg hold trap? I assume that people only use leg hold traps because they get a thrill out of seeing the animal alive before they kill it. Is there a different reason?

@MrCoryjohnson1 Most states laws require traps to be checked with in a certain time from them being set. I know here in NY its 24 hours for most parts and 48 hours in other parts.

I set in areas that are far enough from houses that own dogs to ensure they dont get in them. Sometimes rabbit hounds etc get in them but you can only do so much. We are not allowed to to set bodygrippers on dryland for this reason...
@shooterb12 On the rare occasion a Cat hound or other dog gets into one. They can be released with little or no harm done. Footholds were the first live release trap. They were in fact invented to catch humans and not animals.
I wouldn't intentionally trap bobcats because I think they're beautiful animals. Obviously he's gonna kill the thing if its in his trap, its either that or he frees it and it attacks him or he leaves it and it suffers and dies. Some people make a living off trapping animals; feed the kids, or don't kill the wild animal

why does it say nova scotia anyways , foot traps like those are illegal now since 1997 aren't they? thought you could only use neck snares , or conibears in a cubby set... or those foot traps in a drown set ( for muskrats let's say) Though i think foxes are the exception , could i please get a clarification? or are these laws by provinces ? nope you can use foot holds for fox, yote and cats. The reason for this is you often get cats in yote traps so there is no point in making it against the law
Up here in canada , due to humane trapping laws we arent allow to use foot traps for lynx trapping , only allowed conibears in a cubby set , or snares. But hey nice catch nevertheless!

This type of ignorance and cruelty is pathetic and appalling. I can excuse the natives for hunting for food and pelt, but if these hunters want to kill big cats for food I would suggest that they go and get a bit more education, a job, and buy from the supermarket. It is very affordable.

@MrCoryjohnson1 Most states laws require traps to be checked with in a certain time from them being set. I know here in NY its 24 hours for most parts and 48 hours in other parts.

I set in areas that are far enough from houses that own dogs to ensure they dont get in them. Sometimes rabbit hounds etc get in them but you can only do so much. We are not allowed to to set bodygrippers on dryland for this reason...

@shooterb12 On the rare occasion a Cat hound or other dog gets into one. They can be released with little or no harm done. Footholds were the first live release trap. They were in fact invented to catch humans and not animals.

I wouldn't intentionally trap bobcats because I think they're beautiful animals. Obviously he's gonna kill the thing if its in his trap, its either that or he frees it and it attacks him or he leaves it and it suffers and dies. Some people make a living off trapping animals; feed the kids, or don't kill the wild animal

why does it say nova scotia anyways , foot traps like those are illegal now since 1997 aren't they? thought you could only use neck snares , or conibears in a cubby set... or those foot traps in a drown set ( for muskrats let's say) Though i think foxes are the exception , could i please get a clarification? or are these laws by provinces ? ( i'm from northern ontario myself)

nope you can use foot holds for fox, yote and cats. The reason for this is you often get cats in yote traps so there is no point in making it against the law

Up here in canada , due to humane trapping laws we arent allow to use foot traps for lynx trapping , only allowed conibears in a cubby set , or snares. But hey nice catch nevertheless!
