@CalvinTeeKai It's possible that regular handling will help to tame your iguana. Not every iguana is the same though, sometimes they aren't really tamable.
This bitch needs to stop kissing that ugly shit and get a man or a girlfriend if you are bi!!!! This is fucking crazy!!! fucking molesting a iguana!!!
Cool looking guy! I had one similar as a kid, another similar size as a teen, and got a baby now. Iguanas when properly cared for can be as affectionate as any domestic animal, and are little risk of zoonoses. Even if a person DID get salmonella it'd be no worse than a flu. All these antibacterial using germaphobes out there are keeping their systems pathetically weak from never having to work.
@cjayh85 Yep, it's funny, so many people try to tell me that we shouldn't love on the iguana because we're going to die of salmonella. Although Spike passed away a couple years ago, I had him for 7 years and would give him kisses all the time. I never once got sick.
@ldorio Salmonella can actually get a person very sick, bloody diarrhea. But it's much worse for small children, can cause sepsis. The thing is not all iguanas carry salmonella. And even the ones that do, salmonella isn't extremely infectious like other bacteria like shigella for example. It actually takes a lot of exposure to get sick. Which is why iguanas aren't a big deal for adults, but kids under 5 shouldn't really be exposed unless the ig tested negative for salmonella.
@Indigokitteh i was just going to say the same exact thing..... i just read a book about iguanas( first book in my life that i read every single page...sad but true:P) ill never kiss mine even tho its dishes are clean and i give her fresh food everyday and theres nothing that could cause any type of disease but still is a big no
@Indigokitteh It's just a risk some people have to live with. I let my bird drink out of my water cup when I first fill it(so she doesn't get any of my germs lol), and I kiss the top of her head. I also used to hold my snake and eat at the same time. I hope I never get salmonella but if it does happen, then it sucks but I won't regret getting to play with my pets :D
@Indigokitteh The salmonella is primarily in reptile feces if the reptile even has it. Just keep the cage and the pet clean from their poop and you should be fine. I give my snake kisses all the time and I've never gotten it.
@ldorio Hmmm, I have a pit bull and so do several of my neighbors...yet none of us have ever been bitten...why don't you stfu. And this video is ADORABLE! I totally want a rescued iguana one day! :)
@veganstanger Hmmm, I hadn't realized I was talking to the poster of this video--regarding his/her comment about pit bulls being likely to bite. I probably would have been more educational and less angry about my response. I think this video is adorable, I'm really interested in rescuing and iguana one day...it just pisses me off when people claim pit bulls are more likely to snap than ANY other breed--this is completely false and simply a matter of media sensationalism.
@ldorio Hey, you're online! Cool. I know they have it in their digestive system but doesn't that get transmitted to their skin from coming into contact with the poop? Please forgive my ignorance. I'm not being critical, just genuinely curious. Thanks.
@dachickenlady If you let your iguana roll around it its own poop, then yes, anything is possible. If your iguana is litter trained and you keep him clean, then it's not really as much of an issue as some would want you to believe.
@dachickenlady I adopted Spike as a full grown adult in 2003, and he lived until May 2010. During that time I never became sick as a result of handling, hugging or kissing him. Certainly that was at our own risk, but bear in mind people have no problems kissing cats and dogs, each of which either lick their own/each others asses, and some of which (dogs) end up eating their own excrement.
@ldorio yeh i leaned that whilst doing an animal care diploma lvl 2 - i was interested in them as i own a 4 yo myself :) they make greate pets don't they - but mine is in that phase of life when he likes to jump on stuff and go places he shouldn't my house is a trainwreck because of my little iggy xD
its gunna bite yeh

i nosekiss my iguana EVERYDAY!
and i even sleep with my iguana in the same pillow!! (he's 2 years old) and i don't even have any health problem with that. (besides being clawed)
i am only afraid if mine start to bite... i hope it wont happen...
i always wash my hand after handling reptiles, but never wash my face after nosekissing or being licked by reptiles..
*giggles* i love to pinch my Puppy's (iguana) leg too~ seems chewy~ omnomnom.

Don't reptiles have the possibility of carrying salmonella? I would not be putting my mouth on them lol.
Indigokitteh 5 months ago
@Indigokitteh So dogs are a lot cleaner huh, especially when they're sniffing other dogs asses and sometimes eating their own waste?
ldorio 5 months ago 17
@ldorio Actually, some sources say that a dog's mouth is "cleaner" than a human's mouth. But I don't put my mouth near them anyway.

I wouldnt put my face that close to one of those. I knew a guy who literally got his face ripped off by his pet. He was really badly injured.
