Would any of you be hankering for a 1981 Bonneville/Parisienne Safari Diesel wagon these days? My maternal grandparents had one (the Bonneville Safari) for a short time in the early 1990s. The diesel is an Oldsmobile 5.7L unit which was not generally well-received.
I had an '81 Bonneville (USA version of the Parisienne). Same color. The only difference was that in had the wire wheel covers. A great car. It would have been better as a Brougham.
@Mackinac359 The Brougham would for sure be great. I have the stickers, but idk if i want to put them on or not. The car now has the wire wheel covers, i bought them NOS for $20.00 each
Still driving my 80 this winter. Running good with a new timing chain and distruibutor. Has almost 220,000mi. I hope to put up a new video of it soon.
You may have spark ,but is it going to the right cylinder under the compression stroke? When taking off the chain/gears, Did you move the crank or cam independently before the new gear/chain was put on? The key ways on the cam is alittle tricky. Look for another reply=
post #2- turn crank so dampner points to Zero on the pointer. Rotor will either point at number 1 plug wire or be 180 deg off. After install chain, did you -turn crank without disributor put in? I think crank makes 2 turns to make 1 turn of distributor. You also need to make sure the oil pump shaft is fitted into bottom of distrib.
no, they arenet great in the winter because they are rear wheel drive. modern cars are way lighter, but they are usually front wheel drive, where the engine weight is good for traction.
80 and '81 had different grilles and woodgrain on the dash. '81 had an inlaid design in the woodgrain. The fabrics were different too. '81 was a bit classier. The '80 interior was almost disco-ish on some Parisienne/Bonnevilles.
A gutsy 305 can't say I have ever seen one. Do yourself a favor get a big block in that big old girl, or a 350 anyway of your going to stay with the small block. Chevy 305's are not much more then a boat anchor lol
8o's box cars are my favorite cars....i rate this 4 stars because like u said the grill is quite ugly and i agree, my friend got a 86 but the grill is more flatter jus how i like it
Yeah you sure this not an 81' Bonneville, i had a 81" Bonneville and the Parisiennes front ends don't look like that. They have a flat straight across front end.

exactly. you can get your beginners when you are 15 and a half. then nine months later you can go for your road test to get your real lisence. What about over on your side of the world?
here in France it's possible to start to drive when you're 16 but you have to drive with a confirmed driver next to you until you're 18, or you can get the real driver licence when you're 18.
but here we have to take about 30 hours of driving lessons, because nearly all the cars here are 5 speed manual, and not automatics... an american girl told me there weren't any driving school in the United States, is it the same in Canada ?
Well here you take a course at school called driver education. its a class room thing. then there are in car driving lessions after you get your beginners. Nine nonths after you get yout beginners you can go ffor your road test
haha thanks. unfortunaely it hasnt been started since june, since im out at the lake for the summer. Its hard to ler her sit through the best months of the summer.
Yeah they definately shared some traits with the Grand Prix. I'm thinking of putting air suspension in the rear so the ass doesnt ride so low when i have three people in the back and a trunk full of stuff.
yeah but i dont mean like the kind where it jacks it up five feet, or down until the oil pan touches the ground, just rear shocks. Cause i occasionally pull a trailer, and with a couple hundred pounds of tongue weight, it sits really low. My dad's buick Estate Wagon had that, its self leveling. But you can also get it with a little air valve in place of one of your rear lisence place mounts for a manual controll, a cheaper option. My Dads Parisienne had that.
the engine is most likely a 301 or 307 olds which is almost the same as a 305 except that there were 2 types of 307's a stock and a high output, on the VIN there will be a Y this indicates a stock engine(140 HP), a 9 will indicate a high output engine is used (180 HP).
Nice Pontiac man. I love those wheel covers too. As an added bonus it doesn't have a vinyl top either which means none of the rust issues that come with those. You have a real nice car there, keep it up that way.
WOW! That car is new condition. That is a car to be proud to own! Love those skirts. Seeing your pontiac makes me feel like getting the 72 chevelle out for a drive.
Thank you! Yeah i just love them skirts. since i made this video 3 years ago, we were driving and one of those precious skirts fell off!! was driven over multiple times before i could get it, and was useless. took me a couple years of hunting to find a replacement. now looks good as new.
Wow. I commend you! Onen ot taring it apart on your grandma! Cause that is a BEAUTIFUL car! My grandpa had one... The pain was dull. and the 4 barrel Carbs opened you flew on the highway. Thanks for posting. is it a 4 barrel too? What a gorgeous car.
Those new cars are made of crap. plastic and cheap re-used metal. I just love the throaty sound those 4 barrel chevies make when you opened it up some. It was a big upgrade from the old 81 Plymouth Caravelle. Felt like you jumped in a limo. WE bought ours from an old man who got a mountian of speeding tickets with it. he said he was caught, and was so upset when he sold our parisenne to us. in my day. we also had a 79 Chevy Impala, police package... that son of a gun would fly
These cars were hand designed. You could feel and appreciate the craftsmanship in them. They were comfortable and you felt like a VIP driving in them. They probably werent as reliable as newer dull computer designed cars but I'd buy one in a heartbeat if they still made them. Thanks for posting.
Yea, no plastic bumpers like the junk cars these days. I owned an 86 Parisienne, which ran beautifully. Once hit a dear which jumped out into the middle of the road going about 40, and not as much as a scratch even on the car. Certainly no airbags popping out unnecessarily. I'd like to see what would happen to a new car. Wouldn't want to try it though.
yea we had a 94 voyager that we hit a deer in doin 40 and clipped her again at 25 it took out the already damaged grille and then messed the ac up and then bent the hood (no airbags becuase the fuse blew) $800 damage from just that even though it was still driveable
yeah theses cars are tanks. a month or so ago we drove this car through a wall. (not on purpose) And there was just one scratch and a few paint chips. the falling bricks from the brick wall didnt even dent the hood, just chipped the paint in a couple spots. Great cars.
i'd like to get one of these....i would make only one mod to it:GUT THE PIPES!make some pipes grow out the hood and that would be the greatest car in the world!
yo nice brother i have a 86 Parisienne these are the best its so comfortable mine was siting in a field for 3 years with just a few probs way better than a caprice
beautiful car it looks like it just came off the assembly line lol. i just bought my first car a 1984 oldsmobile delta 88. needs paint and thats it 307 5.0L ill probably have vids of it soon. but deffinity take care of her u only get a old car like that in mint condtion once in a blue moon. and those cars from the 80s are more safe then the newer cars with airbags
haha, first of all, gl with ur caar, its nice but insane on gas whether u belive me or not. second, new cars these days are more fragile structally as they are designed to have crumple zones so u survive, while back then it was though, if the car survives, u survive LOL.
cars these days are mechanically better in quality and interior, but structally, their not.
cars these days are definately safer man i dontknow where u get ut information from.
the crumple shit with the cars is true. but man like you cant just pull info out of ur ass. like cars are in better mechanical condition nowadays? not really, in general theyre a lot shittier. Look at how older cars used to be able to go for a lot more km's before they crapped out. new cars go 200 000-300 000 and theyre done. ive seen older chryslers and chevys that have been up at 500 000- 700 000 and still safetied, insured and in mint shape. fuckin guy makin up stuff to try to sound smart lol
uh no i am right cars these days are mechincally better. what i mean by mechincally is that they keep upgrading engines, etc etc, but are lacking in quality. for example, hybrid cars, save on gas and shit, their nice but of course cars these days cheapen everything out. though some quality is sort of coming back. like heres a stupid example, usuning actual wood trim.
and im not a fukin guy i know what im tlaking about a hole
no they arent mechanically better. Upgrading engines? no they just put all their technological shit on their engines. body styles upgrades, so do engines. doesnt mean theyre better. dont talk about something you dont know about
holy fuck. you talk like a retard. how do you misspell the same word 3 times in a row. and then act like you know something. How are they mechanically better? Theyre shit, you gotta do more work on them, harder work on them, and longer work on them. Older cars ran 10 times BETTER than new cars mechanically. and thats a fact
exactly what i mean by cars back then were built strong but hey, if u get a ina crash with that on the highway, ur car might survive, but you will bash ur face on the dash ...but hey man for the sake of argument, thats a nice car and chances are, when ur driving it (if its yours) you will be very cautious amnd not get into an accdient in the first place...just hope the people around u have a brain to drive LOL we have to many idiots on the roads these days...
Sweet man, I got an 85 with GTO rims. Not as good of body shape as that one (one of the trim is gone and there's a few spots of rust) but the interior is just as nice. Love the car, got it on the cheap 275 bucks. Runs great, I love that car. Rides real smooth and can take of when you need it love the 4 barrel carb haha
I probably wouldn't go with air shocks. Find some large heavy rear coils for lift, and support for any bodies in the trunk you may haul around. LOL. I got sick of pumping them up all the time when they get old. Larger wire diamater wont squash as much, so the total length may be shorter than stock length. Try your salvage yard.
These last along time if people take care of them and do things right on repair/maintenance. Yours looks good. I hate it when people get nice old stuff, and trash it, and only really care about how the stereo sounds.
I don't mind a few upgrades, like stronger cargo coils in the back so the back end dosn't sag down. It depends on how nice the car is for other options. Radios can be swaped back with out hacking if you take your time. My 80 (youtube)is too far gone for putting money into it other than good maintanance.
yes i have '85 blue 4 door with a 305 and its got 48,200 miles on it all original. and it was my grandfathers. only driven on sundays. since i have owned it i drove from new york to california with no problems at all. these cars are very rare they are nowere to be found anymore. i also have a wrecked 2 door one im rebuilding.
absolutely beautiful car. That paint is very nice. Glad to see it survived all the years. Keep her going

randomrazr 3 years ago
the crumple shit with the cars is true. but man like you cant just pull info out of ur ass. like cars are in better mechanical condition nowadays? not really, in general theyre a lot shittier. Look at how older cars used to be able to go for a lot more km's before they crapped out. new cars go 200 000-300 000 and theyre done. ive seen older chryslers and chevys that have been up at 500 000- 700 000 and still safetied, insured and in mint shape. fuckin guy makin up stuff to try to sound smart lol
theriddler42 3 years ago
uh no i am right cars these days are mechincally better. what i mean by mechincally is that they keep upgrading engines, etc etc, but are lacking in quality. for example, hybrid cars, save on gas and shit, their nice but of course cars these days cheapen everything out. though some quality is sort of coming back. like heres a stupid example, usuning actual wood trim.
and im not a fukin guy i know what im tlaking about a hole
randomrazr 3 years ago
no they arent mechanically better. Upgrading engines? no they just put all their technological shit on their engines. body styles upgrades, so do engines. doesnt mean theyre better. dont talk about something you dont know about
theriddler42 3 years ago
ye exactly, which means MECHINCALLY BETTER geezes
randomrazr 3 years ago
holy fuck. you talk like a retard. how do you misspell the same word 3 times in a row. and then act like you know something. How are they mechanically better? Theyre shit, you gotta do more work on them, harder work on them, and longer work on them. Older cars ran 10 times BETTER than new cars mechanically. and thats a fact
theriddler42 3 years ago
how bout u jsut shut up. i never took sides u fucking dumb ass. u already answered why they ar emechincally better. such an idiot jsut shut up

exactly what i mean by cars back then were built strong but hey, if u get a ina crash with that on the highway, ur car might survive, but you will bash ur face on the dash ...but hey man for the sake of argument, thats a nice car and chances are, when ur driving it (if its yours) you will be very cautious amnd not get into an accdient in the first place...just hope the people around u have a brain to drive LOL we have to many idiots on the roads these days...

SoxFan5291 3 years ago
They don't build em like this anymore, full of strong car with style. Take good care of that car.

randomrazr 3 years ago
its not good in the city, but it's incredible on the highway - for the car.
11paterj 3 years ago

Does this 1981 Pontiac Parisienne come with a chime or a buzzer?
Jac2Mac 4 years ago
what do you mean?
11paterj 4 years ago
The noise it makes when the door is open. Is it a buzzing sound, or does it make a dinging sound.
darkmp40 3 years ago
ding like bop bop bop bop

I probably wouldn't go with air shocks. Find some large heavy rear coils for lift, and support for any bodies in the trunk you may haul around. LOL. I got sick of pumping them up all the time when they get old. Larger wire diamater wont squash as much, so the total length may be shorter than stock length. Try your salvage yard.

These last along time if people take care of them and do things right on repair/maintenance. Yours looks good. I hate it when people get nice old stuff, and trash it, and only really care about how the stereo sounds.
wissn2112 4 years ago
yeah i hate thoes people. Im keeping everything origional. including the stereo
11paterj 4 years ago
I don't mind a few upgrades, like stronger cargo coils in the back so the back end dosn't sag down. It depends on how nice the car is for other options. Radios can be swaped back with out hacking if you take your time. My 80 (youtube)is too far gone for putting money into it other than good maintanance.
wissn2112 4 years ago
yeah, like one day i hope to put air shocks in, and since this video, i have put wire wheel caps on.
11paterj 4 years ago
I have for mine, some olds rally wheels that look nice. Gm small bolt pattern. They will also fit my 78 impala, and 84 delta.
wissn2112 4 years ago
do you have ne vids of them on youtube?
11paterj 4 years ago
