My first real concert ever was these guys at The Opera House, Toronto in 2008. They are INCREDIBLE in person. They played Paradise Lost in it's entirety, and even then some! Very intimate show, if you get the chance to see them then DO IT! :)

I was on a hike in Mammoth near a lake, and had their album V playing with my good headphones, and the beauty of the music and the nature almost brought tears to my eyes.

Dream Theater is technically better, but nothing beats the atmosphere and musicality of Symphony X.

It's Dream theater done RIGHT, no atrocious vocal's and the greatest bassist on the planet , using a stick.

Not only did they not need lyrics, it's one of the few groups that were so vocal in their melodies you didn't even notice the lack of singing.

Rullo is underrated because he plays the same riff over 90% of the Symphony X choruses. 16th notes on the bass with a standard ride-snare quarter note pattern.

But you're right, he is very good and underrated. With all the other talent in the band, however, he's not the star like, say, Mike Portnoy is.

actually, portnoy is a better drummer... after all, portnoy is the youngest drummer ever inducted into the drummer's hall of fame. john petrucci has to be the cleanest picker ever, john myung is amazing is solo bass projects, but i do agree that Dream Theater's vocals are worse than Symphony X's, BUT THATS NOT TO SAY EITHER OF THEM IS ANYTHING LESS THAN AMAZING. its just that Dream Theater's song writing hasn't been up to par with their past albums. oh and jordan rudess is a keyboard prodigy.
