  • I love this.. I own the CD, well, sort of a friend gave it to me, and the music is amazing. BSM was the only reason I own it. <3

  • I saw this show when it was in try outs in Toronto, and I prefer that Evelyn Nesbit, this one is very talented too, I just enjoyed the Toronto actress's portrayal better. I wish I could have seen this or the revival on Broadway, it's one of my favourite shows.

  • I LOVE Wheels of a Dream...makes me tear up every time!

  • This music gives me goosebumps! Beautiful.

  • ITS LEA!!!

  • what is the boy holding?

  • So many great elements, a great story and one of the best casts ever assembled. I had the great pleasure of being a first nighter, the night that the theater reopened after an amazing renovation. Too bad the score lets you down in Act II and the entire show does not cohere emotionally. Watching these clips ,you would think it was a masterpiece.

  • i loove audra mcdonald!!! :)

and marin mazzie is supposed to play diana in next to normal... based on this, i cant picture it, but maybe shes more versatile then i would think....

  • @starpiggy777 SHE WAS AWESOME AS DIANA. i had to put it in caps. I had the pleasure of seeing her live as Diana. amazing.

  • @starpiggy777 she wasn't marin she according to the clips sounded like an opera singer

  • is there anywhere that this whole documentary can be found?

  • During the very first musical clip at 0:49, I am SO annoyed with the woman who goes RAAAGtime with a really spread A ... :/

  • Brian is not only the hottest/most talented singer of all time, he also is INCREDIBLY skilled at pretending to play the piano. He could *ahem* teach some of the other people on Broadway to fake-play the piano much better ... but I'm not pointing fingers at ANYBODY ... :)

  • Little Lea Michelle is so cute!

  • Does anyone know where I can get the full broadcast of 'Creating Ragtime'?

  • Marin Mazzie is amazing again :)

  • omg is that lil kid at the begining christonpher?????

  • ahh little lea michele, any one know where i can find more clips/audios of her in ragtime?

  • We're doing this show at my high school! We're the first high school to do it in all of Iowa. Whoo! :)

  • Wheels of a Dream makes me cry every time.

  • who plays Teteh?

  • Peter Friedman

  • Breathe takin simply breathe takin!

  • Why played the mother? What else has she been involved in? Because she looks SO familiar!

  • Marin Mazzie played Mother.

  • Marin Mazzie has been in a lot since Ragtime. The most recent project I've seen her in was the reproduction of Camelot. She played Gwenevyre.

  • Mother was played by Marin Mazzie, she was recently seen on Broadway as The Lady of the Lake in Spamalot, and she originated the role of Clara in the Broadway show Passion, and she played Kate in the most recent revival of Kiss Me Kate. She was also in the televised Lincoln Center production of Camelot as Guinevere.

  • Marin Mazzie was Mother...she was in the revival of Kiss Me, Kate and most recently on Broadway she was the Lady of the Lake in Spamalot.

  • is Lea Michelle playing the the little Jewish girl?? cause I loved her in Spring Awakening!!

  • yes she did.

  • yes it is her!

  • Omg I did the 2000-2001 Ragtime National Tour and I was the little girl and this brings back such good memories. Thanks so much for putting it up!

  • AUDRA MCDONALD!

  • omg so captivating

  • omg little Lea Michelle!

  • I am convinced that there is no one on earth that can sing or is as hot Brian Stokes mitchell

  • I agree... such beauty and talent in one man? Not fair!

  • hahaha. he is amazing!!!

  • Thank you for this posting. Ragtime is a classic musical and this is the firs posting I've seen that recaptures the key scenes from the Broadway production. thank you thank you

  • are these clips from the broadway production or before they got to broadway? cause my friend was the little boy before broadway

  • This is the Broadway production.

  • Actually it's the pre-Broadway run. You can tell because Paul Dano is playing Edgar, but he didn't follow the production to Broadway.

  • love this musical...did it in High School... man, the memories...amazing.

  • It's one of my favorite musicals, by the way, probably my second or third...thanks for the post!!!! I would only want to see it if it was a replica of the original Broadway production, and this seems like the closest I'll get. Thanks!

  • In my opinion, Ragtime the musical is a triumph-mainly due to the performance of its leads (STOKES MITCHELL!!!!!!) and its music. Sure there may be some tweaking needed here and there in other places, but the score is what really conveys the emotion and passion of it. I would love to see the show. I'm in no way denouncing it, I just really think that most people will agree with me when I say that.

  • This is a wonderful composite of perhaps the greatest musical ever created. Great score, artists and a book of historical importance in America. Thanks for the video.

  • that little boy in the beginning seriously looks like Paul Dano.

Other than that LITTLE question, I have to say, this is INCRED!

  • wheels of a dream best song ever!

  • My friend and I got to be his personal guests on my 30th b-day when Ragtime was in L.A. I just wanted to meet him and he gave me the red carpet treatment. He spent a lot of time with us while his wife took their personal guests on tour. We signed his guest book in his dressing room. I'll NEVER forget it. He's still the same sweet & kind man today as I saw him again this past March at his cabaret gig in Orange County.

  • I got to be alone in a room with BSM, when he was in DC doing King Hedley. My friend was a stage manager at the kennedy center, and set up a meeting...it was awesome and he was very sweet

  • Lucky you! Thanks to this show I discovered him, and no one else can act and sing like this fabulous artist. He's awesome!!

  • BSM was in this? Wow, I didn't know that.

  • Seriously? I believe it's his most memorable role. He's stunning as Coalhouse Walker, Jr., and he's really the heart of the show. I highly recommend the original Broadway cast album. :)

  • @hokieashleyt He had already made quite a name for himself as a replacement for Gregory Hines in Jelly's Last Jam and for being in the second company of Kiss of the Spiderwoman.

  • Thanks :}

  • omg i had no idea there was a 'creating of' pbs thing thank u sooooo much for posting this now i can go buy it!! lol
