  • ...slappin da bass man, slappin da bass!

  • geddy lee is better than billy sheehan..

  • Any place I could find tabs/sheet music for this thing?

  • this is an amazing bass solo? fuck yeah right. i could play this in my sleep. flame me people i fucking dare yas

  • @lisaandarron It's still a very well-written and well-played section. I doubt you could play with half the attack Geddy has. The only people who equal Geddy for attack are Alex Webster, Steve Harris, and John Entwistle, and the latter is dead!

  • @VideoMask93

hes playing a fast picking style with 2 fingers. not even 16ths. i could play that in my sleep. so my words to you are FUCK YOU

  • @lisaandarron Do you have jalepeños shoved up your ass or something?

  • @VideoMask93 go fuck yourself

  • @lisaandarron Does it matter whether you can play this or not? I can play most of Geddy's studio and live stuff. Does this mean these stuff arn't awesome?

And hat solo is actually a little cool break from a song called Driven. But does he need to play 16ths or slap to make it sound awesome? No. It's awesome because it sounds like that.

Watch Cliff Barton's solos; his stuff arn't hard as well, if you get the idea. But these stuff are still awesome.

  • @lisaandarron If songs were judged based on how difficult they were to play, then Smoke On The Water would be the worst rock song ever.

  • the bad thing is when these guys stop playing and start talking...they come off like total self-absorbed assholes...great musicians tho

  • @jcfbell3001 wtf are you an idiot? have you even really listened to any interviews with them????

  • @corysnapp

lol...yes i have, hence the comment...when they're on rockline, it's like every caller is, to them, both mentally challenged and offensive at the same time...no big deal, they can do what they want, they're rock gods...

  • how did i know this would be 240p before i clicked on it?

  • tab? :D

  • geddy is insane HE'S AWESOME even though every time i ask somebody do you like rush they instantly say NO like really loud

  • As amazing as Geddy is at bass, what impresses me more is his ability to multitask. He could probably play that solo, play keyboards, and sing the melody to Tom Sawyer all at the same time.

  • Flea and Futoshi are the best...

  • Geddy Lee is great, Les Claypool ownes. End of story. Les got into a thumb war and everyone within 5 miles was killed, even chuck norris.

  • Classic Geddy, gnarly as hell! Fender Jazz Bass with Rotosound Swing Bass 66 roundwound strings, run through a Tech21 Sansamp RBI rack unit and a Palmer Speaker Simulator. Killer gear, killer tone, killer player!

  • Flea and Geddy Lee are the best

  • @tysonsiberio Partially agree. You have to add John Paul Jones to that.

  • That rocked.

  • one of canada's finest bands.

  • Once again this is NOT a solo, it is the bass instrumental section of the song Driven, from Test for Echo (1996)

  • @TOSportsFan1990 So it's a section where the bass goes... 'solo'?

  • @Fredrockroll Well yes, I meant to say it is part of a song, not Geddy showing off his skills

  • @TOSportsFan1990 but aren't "all" solos part of a song? I understand what you're saying, and i kindda agree, but i still think this count as a solo.

  • I love geddy lee and Rush and I am a bass player but this isn't "amazing"

  • @throwsand I disagree with you, it's amazing because how it's written. and how it sounds. not because it's not hard to play. you probably think it can only be amazing if it's a difficult piece to play. Playing a hard complicated may be tough and lots of musicans do it to show case their talent but these guys have been there and done that and only care about one thing now, how it sounds. it can be tough to play and still sound like crap.

  • slappa tha base

  • Geddy is not only second to none on bass, his voice is completely overlooked and amazing ... for the non-believers, I have one word for you:

    Circumstances

    The guy simply rules ...

  • Wow, I think this is the most douchy music snob filled comments section on YouTube. Jesus Christ, people. CHILL.

  • @dlewis1498 Yeah...Bass player's paradise.... (coming from a guitar player ;D)

  • @dlewis1498 Manyprogressive rock/progressive metal videos are filled up with people who are somehow certain that more notes = better music.

  • When does the "Amazing"part start ? No Really I want to hear it,tell me what time it begins I dont want to keep missing it,THANKS

  • verrry niiiice

  • geddy lee and amazing bass solo shouldnt be in the same sentence

  • @ArmyRangeris You must be kidding or on (bad) drugs!

  • @ArmyRangerish Because they're synonymous! All you need is 2 words Geddy Lee!

  • Korn and The Offspring don't reside on the same musical continent as Rush....

  • Nirvana isn't even worthy to open for a band that opens for Rush. They are so transcendent.

  • Facts are facts...Kris Noveselic from Nirvana was light years ahead of Geddy, Claypool, etc...Plus the bassist from offspring and Korn are at the top of the list too.

  • @LJPpro Another heavy (bad) drug user!

  • geddy wooten. aha

  • My God

  • geddy amazing yes, this solo no

  • driven rush in rio... good times

  • fuck flea, cliff burton, john enwistle, all bass players. exept victor wooten, geddy lee and les claypool. geddy lee is the real deal, sturoc 0 not tryin to be mean but i guess u have no idea what your talkin about, an no its not geddypool fleawistle or geddy fleapool, its fuckin geddy lee, respect it, an love it.

  • @TheBunny602 cliff burton was an amazing bassist

  • @spookman117 indeed he was, your right. i want to say, that i take back wat i said about fuck all bass players, sorry people. an sorry to you, but if u understand my point, theres to much people out there that dont like geddy lee, an it tics me off if you know wat i mean, you dont have to like him, but dont talk bad about him, i love geddy. its like me an him are best friends, but dont know each other. im a bass player an ill tell ya this is a real hard bass solo.

  • @TheBunny602 Dude... everything you just said in this comment.... has made every youtube user 10% dumber...funny how ALL of the guys you said "fuck" too... are all in fact better than Geddy Lee... now if you like listening to him more than the others go ahead... but saying fuck them and that he is the real deal... HAHAHAHAHAHAH :) you:(

  • @clix411 ah dood read my other comment i apologized about that. fuck fuck fuckity fuck i will say it matter if you like it or not. and also we all are fucking idiots like it or not, that means me and you are idiots get it. and fuck you punk.

  • @TheBunny602 I love you man :D

  • @clix411 i love you to man. Geddy lee is the best bassist in the world, in my opinion. alright, not to you ok, just drop it.

  • @TheBunny602

Well.. Geddy is boss.. But my respect still goes to John "thunderfingers" Entwistle..

  • @arnoud2000 oh thats cool man. to be honest i never listened to entwistles music. but thats cool

  • As a bass player myself I respecting Lee's songwriting abilities. But I do find this bass 'solo' not very complicated, amazing or inspiring.

  • yea fuck flea go geddy

  • OK, I'll bite: what the fuck is with the washing machines?

  • @beeroosterm Ged's using a DI box (so no amps), and they needed something to fill the space where the amp stacks would normally go. Every tour there's a new WTF item there - vending machines and clothes dryers being two of them.

  • @ischmidt That makes no sense. There would have to be SOME sort of speaker projecting the sound.

  • @cursedswordsman Yes, there is, the main PA system. The bass is plugged into the DI box (which simulates the sound of the amp+speakers) and then that goes into the mixing board along with the mics, keyboards, drum mics, and guitar amp mics.

  • @ischmidt The DI does not simulate amps / speakers, It takes the instruments Hi-Z signal output and converts it to a Lo-Z balanced signal. As preferred by the player and or engineer It can be used by itself and the musician monitors thru the wedges or In-Ear system or in conjunction with a backline rig. On certain gear it is hard wired within the preamp circuitry that emulates particular rigs.BUT does not do that job on its own. There are few that have speaker emulation, not very good,

  • to add : the output from the DI box then goes on either direct or thru further preamp amplification to the stage box at monitor position and split there for feeds into the monitor desk and to the FOH position for the mains.

  • @beeroosterm bro, reason why with the washing machines an other weird stuff. is because rush is trying to say is that they bring large amount of energy when they go on stage.

  • I think I've seen him do better.

  • what a beautiful bass. i would kill to have it.

  • Does the hit in the head (0:14) mean something? I have seen Mike Portnoy do it and some other people I don't recall at the moment..

  • @F8H Portnoy does it when ever he makes a mistake. Oddly enough, he's the only person who notices the mistake until he hits his head. Not sure why Geddy did it.

  • @CaptainCocaine wants more treble? looks like a signal to the soundguy, to me.

  • @deathmetalcontrabsn Wouldn't be surprised.

  • @F8H he does it for fun. because he's Geddy Lee god damn it!

  • My BDay...Geddy Rocks!

  • Driven kicks ass!

  • @xXBeanDelphikiXx and I am better than you moron....

  • meh. Martin Mendez is better.

  • @LWRCftw no hes not, you queer. i know the bassist who your talkin about, he sucks badly. you got bad taste.

  • that bass solo isn't... the hardest... no doubt he's a great bassist, but that bass solo was hardly 25% of what he can do.

  • Not bad....give it to me.

  • Geddy Fleapool Burton.

  • marcus miller. but geddy lee still is really good

  • I want to see an epic bass battle between les claypool and geddy lee and flea and alex webster.

  • VICTOR MOTHERFUCKING WOOTEN

    still this is awesome

  • I'm starting to come to this video every day...

    It's makes my day. :)

  • Lee, Squire, Levin .... I like the RHCP but Fleas riffs to me are just pop rock that is based with structure from both sides. I like bassists that really drive me with their tone and playing like Ged or Squire.

  • This is orgasmic...

  • Funny how people fight over who is a better bassist (Or drummer. Or guitarist. And so on). The solo in this clip is good. Lee is enjoying himself, and the audience likes it too. So it succeeds on all levels. As for who's better, I think Simmons is a so-so bassist, but he's right for what he does; this makes him good. My own fave is John Entwistle. But there is no actual best, only favorites. And Geddy Lee is a great bassist. And this is a great bass solo.

  • or geddy sheehan \m/

  • very cool solo, ive been listening to rush and playing a couple of there songs like yyz,do they have any other good bass songs anyone, please comment coz i wanna learn

  • @wilkesybassplayer Leave that thing alone, Caravan, Freewill, Turn the Page, Red Barchetta, just to name a few...

  • thanks mate

  • @wilkesybassplayer Pretty much every song they ever made is good to learn and fun to play :P I would go with Malignant Narcissism for a strong, "bass-y" challenge.

  • @wilkesybassplayer the song hemispheres, marathon, territories and practice leave that thing alone live same with driven, the both have bass solos. buy different stages CD live. great CD and great for practicing bass, guitar and drums. also practice limbo, carve away the stone, the big money, malignant narcissism, spin drift, hole song 2112, lessons, vital signs, tom sawyer, open secrets and prime mover. just helpin you out man, i practice these songs on bass too. : )

  • MUST HAVE TONE.........AND BASS........AND BE FRIENDS WITH GEDDY

  • DRIVEN FTW

  • I love the washing machines in the back :)

  • This sounds very King Crimson, anyone else agree ?

  • @rafaelb1026 Like something off of Thrack? Never occurred to me, but now that you've said it...hmmm. Yes! I have to agree! Good call!

  • @rafaelb1026 Yes, it does.

  • @rafaelb1026 I love me some KC and i agree, but all prog rock has that bit in the mid. KC utilized a Ashbory bass which is a very small bass with rubber strings. It has the coolest tone on some of those KC songs makes me wana buy one.

  • I wish you would change the title of this video. He's only playing simple bass lines to a song. If you want to see Geddy at his best, watch any of the Time Machine Tour videos of Working Man, Leave That Thing Alone, Freewill, La Villa Strangiato, Far Cry, and I could go on. And one more thing. Geddy isn't the fastest, but he sure as hell is the most melodic.

  • MY GOD PEOPLE, GET OUT MORE!!! IF YOU THINK GEDDY IS THE BEST BASS PLAYER EVER....WELL....HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • @clix411 Geddy is talented, but I don't think many people would disagree that Victor Wooten is the best bass player...

  • @TheBlackshirtHusker Im just shocked at how many people do agree haha And you took Mr. Vic out of my mouth :D Hands down all time best bass player that I know of at this juncture in time!!! And I saw him here in Meridian, MS AND got to shake hands as well as hug his neck. Got a picture and JH as well, man that was nearly a religioius experience!!!!

  • @clix411 he is the best bass player in the world. HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA A HA. : ) you : (

  • sounds very boring.

  • @spiderhulk63 LOL it probably sounded more impressive live (and starstruck) :P

  • He's awesome

  • Is this a song or just a solo?

  • @XpertDrumCovers It's a song called "Driven".

  • @ManOffTTC thank!

  • Somebody told me some guy Jaco Pastorious was the best bass player but I didn't understand the music that he played so that's why Rudy Sarzo is the best ever

  • GEDDY LEE IS THE MAN ... WOOOO

  • Geddy Lee wrote YYZ and that's beter than pussy.

  • @Sandler41882 Speak for yourself :P

  • Sorry lads, but as much as I am a die-hard fan of Rush, a bass player, (even own a Rick...) and worship the ground he walks on, this is far from an "amazing" bass solo...

Just listen to Circumstances - there's your bass solo....

  • solid solo, nothing ANYWHERE close to john entwistle though

  • im sure giddy lee gets tons of pussy lol geez u wankers

  • nice progginess... wouldve been good in the chorus of a song

  • I think I just came.

  • I need this sound. which pedal does he use ?

  • @seqament He doesn't use pedals, but you can try a SansAmp RBI pre-amp.

  • I'm going to genetically engineer the greatest bass player of all time. His name will be Geddy Flea.

  • @ashasha3 LOL

  • @ashasha3 I'm sorry, I have already done it. His name is Geddy Claypool-Pastorius. :)

  • @ashasha3 although awsome, what about enwhistle as a middle name

  • @ashasha3

    Geddy Flea Burton.

  • @macewindex Les Geddy "Thunderfingers" Flea Burton

  • @ashasha3 Getty Les Flea

  • @ashasha3 How about Geddy Pastorius??

  • @ashasha3 i'm thinking more along the lines of engeddywhistle fleaburton

  • @ashasha3 geddy entwistle...

  • @ashasha3

Or. OR. Follow me here. Geddy Fleapool.

  • @Iliveinabox666 Lets take it a step further, Geddypool Fleawistle!

  • @rushlover91 Even further mate, no way! Look, it's LesGeddywooten Fleawistle Paul Jones!!

  • @ashasha3 That's my XBOX Live username. XD

  • @ashasha3 Geddy Lea Harrispool? (Get it? Flea and Clifford Lee (Burton)?)

  • les claypools idol....

  • Funny thing is that Gene Simmons is a Rush fan and Rush toured with Kiss back in the 70s. Sure Geddy is more of a musician than Gene, but no need to hate. Gene loves putting on a show, focuses on singing and has a knack for marketing. Geddy loves being a bassist above all else.

  • @RCAvhstape Gene has so much respect for Rush, it's insane.

  • Love Geddy, but this really isnt that amazing.

  • Alright listen up Gene SImmons and Geddy Lee are both really good musicians so, let's no disrespect any of them.

  • @MikeMars23 Funny part about that is only one of them is a musician

  • @MikeMars23 LOL, seriously? Look up "gene simmons bass solo" on here, listen to any one of them and then tell me if you still think Gene is a "really good musician."

  • He does that thing where he hits his head on stage a lot...

  • Two words ladies and gentlemen. Chris Squire

  • @sebadrum16 Squire is to Geddy as Stewart Copeland is to Neil Peart -Damn good but not even close!!!

  • @obijon2112 Not even close??? Dude, Squire INFLUENCED, Lee. You probably haven't heard anything Yes besides "Roundabout"

  • @sebadrum16 ..."Roundabout" is good..."I'm Running" is better...Geddy may have been inspired by Squire, but has easily surpassed him as Bass Master! James Jamerson was better...check the bassline on Stevie Wonder's "I was made to love her"....do you even PLAY the Bass????

  • @sebadrum16 ..."Roundabout" is good..."I'm Running" is better...Geddy may have been inspired by Squire, but has easily surpassed him as Bass Master! James Jamerson was better...check the bassline on Stevie Wonder's "I was made to love her"....do you even PLAY the Bass????

  • If i fucking hear someone say Flea or Gene simmons one more time i'm going to killt them, Les Claypool/Geddy Lee/Victor Wooten is #1 . That is all.

  • @ElectricBlueCitrus FLEAAAAA AND JOHN ENTWISTLE

  • Gene is good for KISS! He is self taught, and is far more wealthy than alot of bassist in my area, that can smoke him! That's not the point. Gene is underrated! Geddy Lee is an alien!!

  • @acebailey60 Are you fucking kidding? Money is completely irrelelvant to musical talent, or real music for that matter. It doesn't matter if a musician is self-taught or took lessons, all that matters is their skill, something that anything with the most basic musical knowledge will realise that that greedy fuck Gene Simmons lacks.

  • Geddy Lee ain't no slouch

  • this video should be on red tube

  • @6mercenary9

    uploading it there now!

  • @firepigg37 Yeah!!!!Sensei!!!!
