My cat had the same heart problem. The vet said she had about a couple of months to live. That was Nov of '04, we had to put her down Jan. of '06. She lived a lot longer than predicted.
I'd definitely say the worst part of it is the fluid in the lungs, she basically couldn't breathe anymore...so we had to do the humane thing.
I hope your dog is doing ok! She's adorable, especially the head tilt.

She should get stem cell injections into her heart. A friend told me her neighbor who has severe heart disease was told by his cardiac surgeon that he couldn't have another bypass. He is about 80 years old. He went to Thailand and had stem cell injections into his heart and has no blockage and runs around like a 20 year old. lol, now he's gonna have his penis injected. Before the injections he was in a wheelchair gasping for air.

well a little more deaf, blind, and slow, but she just keeps hanging in there. I am going on vacation in a month so she will spend 10 days at a kennel. It's air conditioned and she will get 3 walks a day. Still it is a little worrisome leaving her.
Sorry, I don't know anything about VHD. :-( I'm sure you'll find all the info you need, you'll do your best to make Lucky feel ok... and you'll be able to give her the only thing she wants from you: your Love!

They never hold a grudge even if some jerk maltreats them; they are always ready to forgive even if he doesn't deserve it (see Michael Vick). There is no other being on this earth as loving & as deserving of OUR loyalty as a dog.

Hi Jill,
It is a very good thing that she feels better.
My dog had the same kind of heart disease.
She's been treated by her Vet with some pills that prevented the heart to expand too much and thus push the lungs and the the throat.
Before this treatment, she was throwing up and coughed quite loud.
After 5 months of treatment, she got better and always played like a puppy
So, keep up the good work and give her loads of love

Thanks. I'm in a place where I'm unable to have a dog right now & mine passed on 2 years ago, so I've been very interested. The absolute loyalty of a dog is amazing. They never hold a grudge even if some jerk maltreats them; they are always ready to forgive even if he doesn't deserve it (see Michael Vick). There is no other being on this earth as loving & as deserving of OUR loyalty as a dog.

you rock, and i want to hear all about Lucky's progress...good doggie...i was so annoyed when sxephil took a dig at lucky!! my dog does the SAME head tilt thing when we mention "munchkins" (the doughnut things). i love your lucky videos so keep posting them!!
