  • Paul Holgrem: de la marde sur deux pattes.

  • its clear Holmgren bloodied Sittler.

you can see midway thru the video an angry Sittler checking his face for damage as the ref tries to keep him away from the everyone else.

    watch it...

  • @deathmetalferret -- its clear Holgrem was wearing a visor like a damn coward

  • @wickedbuzzproduction

he had a prior eye injury.

as soon as his eye was healed, shield came off.

    Holmgren was not a "coward"

  • @deathmetalferret -- well he was a ''coward'' here and Sittler did get some good shots considering the shield.

  • Holmgrens fight looked like a drawl, i dont know who the other guy was but he got rocked.

  • I think Sittler won...

  • Sittler did pretty good in that.

See Bridgeman try to head butt him with the helmet on? What a dick.

  • What a trade off for the Flyers. Leafs lose Sittler. Flyers lose that cement head Holmgren.

  • Interesting, but too darn noisy!

  • You can tell that there are fewer Leafs than Flyers on the ice during this brawl since Mel Bridgman can skate artonde without a dancing partner. Tiger Williams and George Feruson of the Leafs had already been thrown out of the game after earlier scuffles.

  • looked closely that one spirited punchfest, NO WINNer.

  • Sittler and McDonald always answered the bell.

  • Sittler actually does pretty good against that cowardly visor wearing piece of crap known as Paul Holgrem

  • @classicNHLfights

    twerp....lol

  • I'm a huge Flyers fan, But I always admired Sittler as he did whatever it took to motivate his team. I was glad the Flyers acquired him in the twilight of his career. He was a Class act.

  • Tiger Williams and George Ferguson were thrown out of this game, before the brawl erupted. The Leafs were down to 14 skaters, with an all-rookie forward line included, but held on to win 4-2.

  • your all gay

  • agreed

  • you're a cowardly maggot piece of shit

  • GAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

  • @MysteryCrumble Fagggggggotttttttt

  • Leaf/ranger fans-watch the videos of Holmgrens bouts against Fotiu,McSorley and Terry O' Reilly and STFU!

  • The flyers not tough? Same crap here from leafs fans as rangers fans- Holmgren can't fight-c'mon, say something believable. Flyers fought anyone,., It was mostly chicken shit rangers/leafs mouths writing a check their ass couldnt cash, and flyers sticking it up their arse.Sour grapes.! Sittler was a great player though, who later played for the Flyers. The flyers were able to stick together, back each other up and win two cups with a blend of toughness and skill- unlike rangers and leafs.

  • stupid habs fans. lets go flyers.

  • Who knew Sittler could fight as well as score? I gained more respect for Sit in a loss than I could ever have for Holmgren for ANY of his wins.

  • Holmgren is a big-jawed mutant who's very presence will curse the Flyers for as long as they continue to employ his sorry ass. He never won anything except a few carefully-chosen fights.

  • Holgrem was such a dirty piece of crap... he fights with a shield on and even tried to headbutt Sittler... a damn coward.... what a terrible trade off for the Leafs.... losing Sittler for fighting with a 5th liner... I"m glad that later in his career he got his head beat in....lol!

  • "Thank God the Habs whipped them in '76 and saved hockey!" you would make a great program director for RDS ..Regardless of what effect the WHL had on the NHL, attendance went down during the Habs run while the Flyers had the highest road attendance of anyone. As far as whipped? I think I recall the first 3 games as 1G games, game 4 was was a whopping 2G win. I'll be the first to admit the '76-'79 Canadians were probably the best team ever, but 2 Cups & 7 Finals were not from picking on whimps.

  • "The Flyers were just goons with no talent" , or as someone said below "they would get their asses kicked" . How about "they weren't that tough",, make up your minds you hockey experts. The Bruins faced the Flyers in 1974, so why did they not win?,,,,,Maybe its time for a new excuse from the English professor JSGU, eh?

  • Since JSGUrsa is a bit confused about Slapshot,,, I just thought I'd pass this on. God is a Habs fan!!!! Wow!! Thanks I did not know that.

  • Slap Shot is a 1977 film starring Paul Newman and Michael Ontkean and directed by George Roy Hill. The film is based on a screenplay written by Nancy Dowd, based in part on her brother Ned Dowd's experiences playing minor league hockey in the United States in the 1970s, during which time violence, especially in the low minors, was the selling point of the game.

  • The reason people cry so much about the Flyers back then is simply because they won two Cups,,, get over it ....

  • When I want to watch a game, I like to see hockey, not roller derby. Don Cherry is right: real tough guys don't pick fights with another team's non-tough guys. See above about Schultz trying to entice Norm Ullman to fight. I love fighting and big hits - but not crap like the Flyers did back then. Without their crap, the movie "Slapshot" would never have been made - it was intended to be a parody of the type of hockey the Flyers promoted. Thank God the Habs whipped them in '76 and saved hockey!

  • Anyone wonder why the Big Bad Bruins and the Broadstreet Bullies never had one of these brawls. Because the Flyers knew they would get their asses kicked because the Bruins had 20 tough guys, not just 4. Schultz never won a fight against the Bruins. He was such a loser.

  • It's funny you say that cause I always wondered that as well....Not that I'm an anti flyer guy but those two teams always fought, but just not each other..

  • the flyers and bruins had a huge pre-season bench clearing brawl in 1977...the game in which george plimpton played; and they had fights virtually every time they played. the bruins might not have been scared of the flyers, but i can assure you the flyers weren't scared of the bruins.

  • Comment removed

  • This has to be one of the all-time great fights involving the Flyers of the '70s. I don't care what any of you loser's say about the Flyers not being a tough team. Back then and still now they are tougher than all of the other teams in the NHL past and present.

  • there is a difference between tough and dirty. they werent both. and they werent that tough.

its funny clark would throw shots with his stick into ankles eyes and then hide.

schcultz would get his face pounded by gillies the team would jump in to save schultz.

id say the wings in the 50's were tougher with howe and lindsay.

even the wings with probert and kocur.

and the bruins in the 70's.

  • Anyone with any knowledge of hockey knows the Flyers were NOT a tough team. Most of their "fights" involved their goons trying to intimidate the other teams by beating on their non-fighters. Schultz vs. Rolfe? That's like the U.S. declaring war on Fiji! I once saw Schultz try to pick a fight with Norm Ullman, for crying out loud! They were really tough - going up against non-fighters. Ever see Bob Clarke fight his own battles like Sittler did? NOPE! I was so glad when the Habs swept them in '76.

  • 1967 1967 1967 1967 1967 1967 1967 1967 1967 1967 1967 1967 1967 1967 1967 1967 1967 1967 1967 1967 1967 1967 1967 1967

  • Boy that's a well thought-out and intelligent response. Did you pass Grade 6? And who typed in the numbers for you?

  • If a player has a visor and he fights someone with no visor, then that makes him a shithead

  • And then the bitch Holmgren headbutts him with the helmet still on! coward.

  • If Holmgren had no visor on in that fight Sittler would have dropped him, Darryl landed bombs right on the helmet, Holmgren landed bombs on his face and he didnt flinch! Sittler was tough.

  • Sittler was not a fighter, he was a good hockey player, Holmgren was just another goon on the flyers squad

  • Sittler could fight everyone knew it, he just didnt have to most of the time, he KO'ed Ken Houston, alot of those punches landed square on Holmgren's visor, no visor in this fight?? Holmgren would have fell.

  • How gutsy was Darryl Sittler!! If Holmgren tried that against Crosby today. They would be digging a grave for him. Growing up in Montreal, there was a great rivalry between the Habs and Toronto,Boston,Philadelphia and later the Nordiques.I had a lot of respect for those Leaf teams in the seventies,Turnbull,Salming,Mcdonald, Palmateer,Ellis, and Sittler.Istill believe that Darryl Sittler was not given the credit he truly deserved. Can you believe Ballard traded him and Mcdonald!!!!!

  • I'm a Habs fan from birth, but you gotta give Darryl Sittler credit, what would happen today if someone like Holmgren went after Crosby! They be digging Holmgren a nice cemetery plot. Those Maple Leafs of the 70's had some really good players!!! Can you still believe Ballard traded Mcdonald and Sittler!!!!Unbelievable!!!!

  • I totally agree. Word for word.

  • You've got to give Sittler a lot of credit. He hung in there with Holmgren and even landed a few good ones. You won't see a scorer in today's NHL go with an enforcer except for maybe Iginla.

  • Sittler like larry Robinson did not fight very much but when they did watch out.

  • go darryl sitler!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Typical Holmgren. Talentless, bone-headed thug!!

  • No kidding. Holmgren's trademark (along with Behn Wilson's) was always to whack people from behind and steer clear of the bigger, tougher guys. Guys like Glen Cochrane and Dave Brown were far tougher and more honest.

  • God you watch these Phily fights and every time a Flyers is losing Wilson is spearing the other guy in the back of the legs. Worst so called GREAT Team of all time. Cheap Shot artists led by the Greatest Coward of all time Bobby Diabetic from Flin Flon. Fred Sherry should be ashamed.

  • JOHN 14:1

  • let's keep religion out of this please

  • This one was broadcast on network as I remember. I wondered how Sittler's head stayed on after a couple of direct belts from Homer. But Sittler was a much better fighter in those days. And that was Pat Boutette punching Billy Barber in the shoulders at the end of the fight.

  • homer?...i think youre the homer....paul bit off more than he wanted in that fight.......

  • AAAHHHHHH....no sound........

  • sorry, i found this video in a news archive library but it had no audio.

  • damn sittler could fight........he has to be the best fighting superstar i can remember, maybe vinny lecalvier is close but sittler fought goons too.......bobby clarke must have been in awe

  • Sittler did pretty wel against a very tough Holmgren. Sittler was no pushover when it came to that sort of thing. Didn't the Leafs have any tough guys in that lineup that night or what???? Where was Williams? Where was Walker? Garland????

  • I think williams was already thrown out of the game for an earlier fight.

  • Darryl Sittler the greatess leaf to play the game

  • Mr. 10 pts one a game is one of my all time faves but Dave Keon is the greatest Leaf ever
