If you look at old photos of whores in the Old West, most of them made Swearengen's whores on Deadwood look like supermodels. Most of them you wouldn't get near if you had a choice, but those miners didn't have much choice.

It's much the same now in any third-world brothel, except the very high-end ones. And judging by a lot of the skanks I've seen in TImes Square, it isn't much different in the U.S.

To appreciate Deadwood you need to be fairly intelligent, a fan of theater, open-minded and love great writing. It is a shame how culturally challenged many are to where they can't appreciate a show this great. It's not a show you can really follow unless you use subtitles and really pay attention. If you like great writing, casting, directing, costumes, set design and a great plot; there isn't much made better than Deadwood.

If you can follow to eps2 of season2 your hooked for life I think!

Funny you said that... I'm all those things, and I'm a great writer, and until Season 2, Episode 2 hit, I was 50/50 on quitting the show. 2x02 is the first episode since the pilot and 1x02 that were worth a damn of any kind.

This parody was hilarious, precisely because of its pin-point accuracy.

It was canceled because it was a western drama centered around non-fictional happenings and historical figures that we learned in school and only won as many emmy's as it did because of the educational value you could learn from it when you didn't pay attention in class. I'm pretty sure everyone commenting upon how bad this video is didn't notice that Mad TV were instead taking aim at Larry King who was 1 of the many critics who praised Deadwood.

The reason the satire does not work is because the original out tops the parody, here in vulgarity. If you cannot do that you need to invert the defining characteristics, i.e. all characters acting soft like in a family sitcom or toddler cartoon.
